How do you find a job an ideal job?

A > Excellent pay + high post with minimum job & responsibilities, almost invisible in the company & like a dumb

B > Low pay with lot of challenges & responsibilities, actively participating in major projects, highly respected by colleagues

I have met 3 persons in my working life whom I thought were holding ideal jobs... i.e. they get paid highly for their hobbies.

One was a sweet little old lady, now retired, who was known to us as Mrs. Teoh. She was a great cook and loves to cook and loves to create recipes. She was also the head of Maggi Test Kitchen in Nestle, those days at Nestle House next to PJ Hilton. She "created" all those local recipes under the Maggi brand for the Maggi Mee, Maggi Cook-It-Right and what have you....

Second was a creative guy we called Robert. He loves to draw and take photographs and he was head of the Creative Store where he does all the packaging and adverts and what nots... also in Nestle.....

Third is a chef... and he is still at it. He loves to cook and tell people about his food. He now goes round the country telling all housewives how to cook and also appears reagularly on TV... he is Chef Muluk....

All 3 are paid well, all happy with their work and all have happy and successful family...

These three to mee are ideal jobs. I would love to be as lucky as they are, being paid highly for doing your hobbies....

All "take" and no "give"? Hmmm... would you be able to offer that assuming its your own company?

I can say that Nestle as a company comes close to your 10 points until they moved 2 months ago to The Curve from Nestle House besides PJ Hilton....

There is no perfect or ideal job lah... lets not kid ourselves. Its a question of how much of the following we get and what value we place on each of these items:

i. salary
ii. happiness
iii. prestige
iv. free time for family
v. security
vi. fringe
vii. freedom
viii. colleagues
ix. employer
x. personal development

I was working for a company which offer this....and really enjoy it. They even provide more than the above :-) But it is a bit too relax and people start to play politics everyday. Eventually it was bought over by another company :-)

I'd stand by what I said earlier. Its not an issue of kidding oneselves. Its only when one gets analytical about it all, considering one's own expectations of life here in Malaysia, most take for granted their own limitations or capabilities to determine or plot their own future for better or worse. Everyone just have different satisfaction level. It simply means for example, a rank and file gahmen servant would likely be entirely satisfied with life and everything is just IDEAL, by simply fulfilling his own requirements (though may be minimal) for sufficient survival till he/she retires. Pursuing wealth may be a likely ambition but they'd choose to stay put till they retire. Meanwhile they happily go about their work as normally as possible. Clock in 8pm, clock out 5pm... 1st and 3rd Saturday is holiday..tomorrow is just another working day.

I know of a boss of a factory(in fact he has two factories now). I feel his job is an ideal job. The industry is consider SMI. He once shared his past struggle when he first started. I really admire his hardwork and what he has today. He told me he finally consider himself trully successful today. His house is so big like a hotel, interior design is like my dream home, and the garden is so big that he build another small house(complete with kitchen and toilet) at the far end. It also has a putting green in his field. But most importantly I respect him because he treated his wife and his family as his first priority and is always so humble.

He told me he once read China premier trying to encourage entrepreneurship to their young graduates; which goes something like this.......Don't just go out and look for job with a company, start your own and create many jobs for others.

If you're not happy, look elsewhere but take your time coz the economy ain't that rosy too... remember if you join another company and if they practise LIFO you will be FO.

On the fake claims, I am sure your office has a photocopy machine? Take some bills and when you have to leave, let him know you have it... let these heroes sweat for a while, kinda nice...

Take heart, chanelt. I was told 2 things when I started working life.

1) we work to finance our other lifestyle ie there must be a life apart from work that we enjoy. This makes a bad job bearable
2) KL people only pretend to be happy. There are many in the same boat.

Having a good job that you enjoy is a bonus that not everyone has the privilege of. Sometimes you have a good thing but deteriorates as working environment changes. Sometimes it's the reverse. Till you get what you want, just hold on....

As for me, I look forward to the day I can afford to retire :D When, ah???

When got free time, read up Section 20(d) of the Industrial Relations Act on Constructive Dismissal. Prepare those fraudulent claims file and take it home. Always remember, whistle blowers normally lose their positions in office and everybody will gang up on you once the top feel threatened. Thread with care...

Yeah, like Sentinel said... read and understand about... "Section 20(d) of the Industrial Relations Act on Constructive Dismissal"... it will help you. Should be able to get from MPH.

Also, keep some documentation of the wrong doing... to protect yourself but not black mailing them...

In the mean time look for another job...

I will look for job, but do not expect much as you all know many companies are in fact downsizing.

One more thing: AND the gahmen WON'T be helping when you're unemployed. You're entirely on your own.. but income tax MUST settle before collecting last paycheck.. Ces't La vie!

What kind of investments are good to finance one's retirement? It's only fun to retire if you have $$$, then having a good time is really my job! At the least, house and car loans must be fully settled; with RM??? income for monthly expenses plus a little holiday and some treats!

One will feel unhappy or desperate when one thought that there is NO CHOICE. Believe me, there is always a CHOICE somewhere out there.

It's like having only 1 girlfriend and she treat you like nobody. Your feeling will be different when you have 2 :p (pray that my wife don't read this)

Log-in to www.jobstreet.com.my Then get yourself to be a Priority Applicant. After that start applying. Trust me...if u have the right skill, someone out there needed you too.

The kind of investments really will depend on one's risk tolerance and situation. There is no one size fits all scenario.

But I fully agree with your statement regarding outstanding loans. Ideally, one should be fully loan free before retirement. Better still....well before your retirement. That will give you more opportunity and time to build your retirement nest. Only exception being your loans are for investment that generate more than your gearing costs.
