Hello tbearer.

My Maybank account number is 112223202599 and my account name is Foong Ming Niang.

As of today (10th August 2009), I have RM28 591.12. I am still in the midst of getting a quote from the hospital but each brain surgery of mine usually cost around RM100,000.00.

I am intending to have the surgery done in the first week of December.

Successful fundraising at Taylor's College Charity Fair!

Extracted from my blog:

Moaz invited me to set up a booth at the Charity Fair of Taylor’s College main campus which took place from 10am to 1pm today. Prior to the event, I made announcements on Facebook, at USJ.COM.MY’s online forum and by sending out mass e-mails. Some friends forwarded the invitation to their friends as well.

Ellen Whyte, the freelance journalist I got to know last year, reached my house at about 10:20am and carried the Heart4Hope t-shirts, books, bunting, banners, and large donation pail in the back of her borrowed Proton Saga because the size of her own car wouldn’t do.

As soon as we unloaded at Taylor’s, Kenrick Chua and a Karthini from SEGi College arrived to help man the booth. Keisha Petrus came next and dropped off Steven VL Lee’s photobooks.

In less than four hours, we raised a total of RM1,168.00 just by selling t-shirts for RM20.00 each and three photobooks that cost RM98.00 – RM99.00 each. Almost RM200.00 were found inside the donation box which we left standing on the table. Many who bought something dropped in their change as well, which meant that these people donated more than the worth of their purchases.

What excited me most was the chance to speak with folks who I would otherwise not get to meet. This fundraiser of mine gave us the opportunity to come out and say hello. Even Eric Lee, who was the Student Services Manager of Life College when I studied there in 2006, came to support. He’s now lecturing at Taylor’s in order to up-keep his newly expanded family of a wife and two toddlers. My former lecturer Pinky Khoo informed her students at The One Academy this morning and they promptly arrived after class. Among others who came were still more Taylor’s College lecturers, who I suspect were partly invited by Ms. Padma of SEGi because she had said that she would be forwarding my email. There were also friends of friends and people who turned up by chance.

RM1,168.00 might be a small sum in contrast with the total I need for surgery, or it might be big to those who doubt we could ever get anywhere by charging RM20.00 a shirt. But to me, this is no small amount, keeping in mind that the bulk of supporters today were college students and staffs who had not much themselves. Let’s just do what we can, one step at a time, and hope for the best.

Thank you everybody for today.
