Hello to all forumers and guests,

Am a newbie, therefore pls pardon me and highlight if I were to cross any OB (out of bound) line, or post any topic discussed before.

In a recent fund raising event by a school in SJ, students in a class were indirectly forced to contribute to RM600 dinner table, in addition to buying a minimum of RM20 cash vouchers, without any black & white circulars and receipts, and therefore without Parents Consent.

Is this fund raising or extortion ?

If you are not telling us the name of the school and the detail what the fund is for, what is there for us to comment except to advise you to go to the State education department and lodge your complaint there. There is nothing to fear.

MasterQ, my initial thought of leaving out the school's name was to encourage unbiased discussions but looks like it's needed here, it's SMKSU, in SS18.

As to the purpose of the fund, let me quote the class teacher " ... for the school developments, such as the upgrading of the toilet, canteen floor tiles, etc ...". There was no written fund objective or budget circulars from the school. If I still remember correctly, Lick Hung has a lot of fund raising campaigns but every campaign is accompanied by a written circular for the parents signature.

Am not thinking of complaining to the Education department yet. Purpose of this posting is to gather more opinions and views from different perspective before deciding if any appropriate action is necessary.

My grouse : Have in fact spoken and make it clear to my kid's class teacher that I do not agree to dinner contribution as a matter of principle, and in fact told the teacher that to insists on the contribution is actually extortion, of course in a joking tone but she is consistently pestering my kid for this RM12. ( RM600 per table per class. One generous pupil sponsored RM200. Balance RM400 divided by rest of pupils in the class.) No doubt only small amount but is this right ?

Nope not right.

There should be a circular from the HM. At least we know its going to the school and not *speculation* to someone else pocket.

To be fair, I think the money goes to the school alright. It's just the unprofessional way or method they harass the kids & parents to raise the fund and also un-accountability attitude that really puts me off.

Discuss with a couple of parents, thought they don't agree with the school but simply conform with silent protest and the comment, " just pay lah and forget the hassle, otherwise your kids might be victimised, you know ...."

Anyone with kids in SMKSU ? Wish to hear your opinion.
