View Full Version : Is life getting tougher here?

Many people I know are working in foreign countries, like Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, China, US, Taiwan, England, etc...
Among the reasons I knew:
1. Need more money to provide for children's education.
2. Hope to get cheaper Uni Fees being a PR
3. Company expanded business to foreign countries.
4. Government policy does not allow a non-bumi to do that type of business.
5. Better pay

Do you see the same trend among your friends?

Recently, I came across two very worrying stories(I didn't say it happened here), one businessman was not allowed to renew his sundry shop license unless he gets 1 particular race to be his business partner, he gave up because he does not understand why he has to share his hard earned money with someone else; another businessman who has been running his business of more than 15 years faced the same predicament, he gave in.
I wonder, are these isolated case?

Are you sure what you are implying here because this is the first time I hear sundry shopkeepers are subjected to such requirements? Can you please verify because this is news to some of us!

Jenny. I do not think Life is getting tougher. It is how we live our lives. I am making a general statement and not referring to you or anybody here.

Many of us live our lives running behind time, but we only reach it when we die of a heart attack or in a car accident rushing to be on time. Others are so anxious of living the future that they forget to live the present, which is the only time that truly exists. We all have equal time throughout the world. No one has more or less. The difference lies in how each one of us does with our time. We need to live each moment. As John Lennon said, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans". Many of us worry and plan for the future when we forgot how to live the present. All that we want - the love, the happiness and the laughter are all here in the present. We lose it all because we do not value them and instead try to live in the future.

How can you live in a future which hasn't existed? How can you plan for a non existent future when you cannot even live your present? The future is based on the present. There is no future to be planned let along build when there is no present. Look around. Appreciate what you have. Your family members. Your mother. Your loved ones. You are already blessed with everything. Do not seek for something which you already have, lest you lose sight of the present and lose all.

Life is always tough, no matter where we live.
I always keep this in my head:
"Life owe me nothing, i must earn everything."

Wow....I am impressed!!

Thank you, Patrick. But Richard Poh said "Brother ..you must be dreamer and a song writer . good for you". I am neither. I consciously tried to live by the philosophy of living in the present and never to worry about the future. After a while it became a part of me and I did not have to try any longer. I find life a lot more fulfilling and I am happy and contented.

Every morning when I wake up at 6.00 am, I ask myself this simple question: How am I going to live today? I can live it in happiness or I can live it in misery. The choice is mine. And since I have to live through the day, I will live it positively and in happiness.

From what I have read from your posts in this forum, I can make a learned conclusion that you are a contented man who looks at each day positively.

You remind me of a philosophy I heard before; If you don't respect yourself, you can't expect others to respect you.

I always tell my children, if you want to progress, you should compare with someone better than you, not someone worst than you.

...and i have also known and made friends with citizens from USA, Canada, australia, uk, Hkong, japan, korea, philipines, middle east, singapore, taiwan, indonesia, thailand etcetc..coming to work in this bolehland...all for the same reasons as what u have listed.

happines is relative. Personal happines level is different...mine is just the height of a banana tree, many are not happy with godzillions acres of Musang durian trees!

...As for the business stories? probably more myth than reality...Plus there are always 2 sides to a coin.

Ha..ha...Jenny you are right. Lee Kuan Yew ever said that "If you think no.2 is OK for you, why not no 3, no 4 and so on". :)

Patrick. My apologies for being presumptuous. It was not my intention. I am usually not far off in forming a 'learned' view of somebody from what they write and especially in situations where I have the privilege and opportunity to read thought after thought (posts in forum are essentially thoughts) of the persons concerned. I must add, however, that I do not intentionally read posts to form views of people and in fact I have not consciously done so here.

Many advocate face-to-face meetings (in formal or informal gatherings) to know each other better. Not necessarily true because in face-to-face situations, most people wear masks. It is on a platform when a person writes his thoughts day in and day out for months and sometimes for years, in which a thought and behaviourial pattern would emerge.

It is rather like... you know, the TV series, 'Criminal Minds' which features the FBI Behaviourial Analysis Unit. Na. Just kidding.

Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journeys are all about.

Of course. In Russia, there is an expression: ""With lies, you may go ahead in the world, but you may never go back."
