I say Fatty Crabs in Taman Megah. Yes, I know it's out of SJ but their sweet & sour crabs are such a scrumptious treat. Go there early or you'll have to stand in line to wait for a table or for takeaway.

Happy birthday, Jan! :D

Many says, the Wellcome Restaurant in Mentari is decently price for its taste. I yet to try, though.

If you wanna go overboard with Crabs and everything else... take a nice drive to Banting.... 3kgs of Chilli Fried Crabs only 108/- :) the rest.... prawns, fish, mantis prawns,la-la etc etc... hardly came up to 20+ each...

all in all... had a bang of a meal for 11 persons... price came up to under 250 ringgit (inclusive of that 3kgs of crabs!!) :D Damn! These goes my cholesterol levels...

Crabs are best on 15th day of the Chinese month because they will have roe. They taste best bar-be-qued. Batu Maung in southern tip of Penang island and End of The World in north-western tip (after Batu Ferringhi at Telok Bahang) is good. Highly recommended.

Along the Yangchen Lake outside Shanghai ROC are the best hairy crabs. Season starts in mid-October just as the winter approaches. Best time is mid to end November when even the male crabs have roe (don't ask me how but I could not understand Mandarin that well when my colleagues explain about bisexuality of the hairy crabs to me....) Crabs here are all bar-be-qued and go very well with the yellow rice wine... hic!

p.s. check your Chinese calendar before going....

I have taken in Devil crab but I find that the meat sticks to the shell. maybe it is the way that the crab has been cooked. I think they deep fry the crab to reduce the cooking time before cooking it in the way that you want it done. Certain time of the month where the crab meat is not solid. Cant remember if it is the first or fifteen of the month. The claws can be very big but half the claw is empty. I have had my share of eating crabs so can consider i know a little bit about crabs. Fatty crab, the crabs are not so big so not so shiok. I rather pay a bit more and get solid crabs cos i dont like getting my hands dirty and eating crabs is messy so have to make it worthwhile.

err...jt, u don't find any nice crab in sj or usj, only so so onces, curious y u request kam heong crab, for me, not the best way to cook or taste crab.
ppl like chilli crab for their sauce, the best way to taste crab is barbeque with no sauce, u can taste the original crab taste, the best one i know is Hing Keat at kampung jawa, klang. u need to order first.

my craby sense :)

drive on the KESAS highway -> towards Klang
turnoff [MAKE A LEFT] at Klang Bkt Tinggi ramp, head towards Banting/Morib/PD road...

head to Banting town...

after the Public Bank in Banting Town[on the LEFT], head straight and you will see a signboard on the RIGHT lane that says TMN BANTING MEWAH -[turn right in] drive straight in and you will see the seafood restaurant "Attap K" !!

I agree. For me, crab taste best by BBQ...or steam.
Tried the kam heaong style cooking of crab in Klang(several times, several shops) but not nice. Also tried once the famous black pepper Sri-Lankan crab and chilli crab in Singapore, but never really have any kick.
So conclusion, go for BBQ or steam. The aroma will make your mouth salivary when the waiter bring the crab to you before even reach your table. :p

Burp... yesterday some guys came down to Penang from KL for a look at some land for sale... we had Musang King and Ang Hay durians at 3.30pm and then at 7.30pm we whacked bar-b-qued crabs at The End of the World...

Today, will be at the gym for extra hour, no pain no gain!
