i am looking at insulation.
coolbatts, cellulose and theres this new thing called coolroof. a tech from aust by Crommelin. they essentially paint the roof, after cleaning it, sealing and all that.

the tech prevents the heat from entering the house at the onset rather than the current methods of insulating after it has entered the roof.

any thoughts from anyone??

not necessarily. those could be just roof paint from ici or whoever.

roof paint? does it help reduce heat and help prevent leaks?

Painting of roof is done for cosmetic reason when cement tile roof starts to get dirty from fungus growth. Well, it does help to reduce the heat if the paint used is of a lighter colour. No, its doesn't help with leakage. Painted roof last for a number of years(maybe 5) only before it gets dirty again. Surface preparation prior to painting is very important, the roof has be sprayed clean with high pressure water jet apparatus.

There was an article earlier that promotes white color for the house and even the roof to reduce heat. But I think it will take at least a decade before anyone would go for a white colour roof!

actually no. i was planning to go with a white roof. then i understood that insulation is a better bet. of course if you can do both it would be best but cost is a concern.
residences in places like s.arabia are painted white to reflect heat. but there is no sealant. so leaks are not covered. there are some commercial roofing insulation like crommelin that will seal your roof.
