I was in Dubai recently and was picked up from the airport by a friend in a Hummer, yes THE Hummer.

I fell in love with it and can't get it out of my mind, the humming engine at red lights... like music to my ears, reminiscing the early days when I first heard the sound of a Ducati V-engine thru the Terminogni exhaust pipes....

But I also notice the Hummer is very wide and although it is made for 2-seaters in the front row, there is enough space between the two seats which is almost 2-ft wide....

Then there are another 2 rows of 3-seaters.....

It is an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and wow, very very powerful.....

I know there are some Hummers on Malaysian roads but the question is - is it actually street-legal?

And it is estimated to be about RM1 million OTR?

WOW!! The Hummer.. What do you mean by 'street-legal' ?

meaning... is it legal to be use on our Malaysian Roads...

Buddy Sentinel... The Hummer you saw in DXB was probably the DADDY Hummer... the BIG one... whereas the one Jimmyay saw was H3 series.. or better known as the Baby Hummer... seen a yellow* one in Desa Sri Hartamas...

But do you know - that although they may "hummmmmm", they also are heluuva petrol GUZZLERS... :p

* probably own by some royalty...cos the plates had crest/insignias on the side...

i rode in one before with a hot babe (Ms. Hawaiian), and both are not mine :D

Anyway, i think it's definitely not safe to drive on in Malaysia. I would imagine you would becoming a big fish baiting all the robbers and thieves on the street.

unless u are a datuk with some gun license and u (or ur body guards) carry ur gun around and has no problem shooting those who try to rob u lo.

I have seen a few on the roads..

About the size of a 2ton lorry, so it should be ok on the road.

I think the main problem would be that it is Left hand drive. How you will get use to that, I cannot imagine.

By the way, whilst in Dubai, did your friend show you the Proton Showroom??

No Robert, I wasn't shown the Proton showroom, what is so 'special' that you asked?

The Hummer I was driven in was a H4 Hummer and came in a two-tone colour paint ie silver and black... damn chun man! Not as big as the first few I saw. Anyone can tell me I can go have a close look at a H4 in Malaysia? Understand there are left-hand drive versions too....

It's legal to drive here. But it's a a bit pointless to drive it lol....
That monster weight almost 3000 kilo ( civic onli at most 1500 kilo), you basiclly basiclly use its 6L engine to carry unnecessary weights...
Just my 2 cents, but if u rich and dont give a damn about the ozone layer, :D
go for it. I think no one will mess with you when you in that monster...

This is a picture I googled which was exactly the same model / colour with the Hummer I was riding in whilst in Dubai....minus all the accessories my mad Arab friend installed...

Sentinel,

Do you feel the Arnold-ism or Stallone-ism adrenaline pumping in you when riding in that? Must have felt indestructible in it, right? :)

Road tax for a Hummer petrol 6L is 16k while for the diesel is 37k!!!!

I think they should change the name from Hummer to Guzzler.... more apt.

Since I cannot move thru the crowded MacAlister Road / New Lane crowd in my little Pajero, maybe the Hummer will do fine, thats why I mentioned 'squeezing thru'....

Saw one parked right in front of Shangri-La KL recently. It was a massive six wheelers Hummer. Black in color. Heavily tinted. Not sure what model it is.

See one nearly everyday at the Subang Term 3 area. Black and fully tinted Black too! Really FIERCE, WIDE and truely SOLID!! left hand driver and witness this HUMMER got stuck twice between small lanes when cars parked illegally along the Term 3 building along the dropping zone. One Russian Guy driving it and always goes there about late mornings dunno for what?? That guy also FIERCE lah. Once he got stuck and with us all lining at the back, he just got out from the right hand side and left his HUMMER just like that. With everyone so frustrated at the back as he is really blocking the pathway, hardly 1 inch space on the left and 1 1/2 feet space on the right! After 15mins, I see the airport police accompany him out and tried to move the illegal cars parked infront to get his Hummer out of the way.
Wah truly a FIERCE machine, my hubby also SHIOK with it lah. I was also SHOCK being told the price!

Just found out there was one in Batu Ferringhi (a H3) but the guy sold it off because he couldn't go thru the winding coastal road here comfortably - too narrow - and cannot pass thru if the opposite is a lorry, a bus or something bigger than a car.

Bt Ferringhi is where I stay.... hmmm looks like have to look at X5 lor...

Just mount a pair of fake .50 caliber machine guns on the roof and all the lorries and buses will give way to you. :D

His is white in colour too and he now sports a white full-faced helmet too.

What he did was to add on a silver strobe light that flickers into the the indicator lights (located on the wing mirrors) as well as the main headlamp.

The highway just opens up for him as he approaches.

This is a video of the brand new sparkling Honda ST1300P used by Malaysian police... they just bought like a few hundred units...during the final tests before delivery and collecting the $$$$$.

And someone spotted a very new and very exclusive and very expensive Malaysian Police Car recently in Miri, Sarawak, used as an escort for a VVIP from Kuching of course....

It is a Volvo S80..... about RM400K plus OTR for a police escort car... aiyoh, is that what they do with our income tax?

Why do these people have to travel with a huge group of cars accompanying them.... such grandeur but such waste... but must be boosting their ego I guess....
