Please confirm the Crime SMS that you forward

Dear Residents

I got these messages (indicated below) on my mobile phone and also through SJ Alert EMS posting by our members.

I have called the numbers indicated and can report that

012-3022370 - No one picks up the phone.
019-92376677 - is not a valid mobile number so when you call it actually goes to 019-9237667. The owner of this number must be so fedup that he has turned off his phone. If you try 019-2376677 no one picks up the phone too.

We have contacted the Police and so far have not received any confirmation from them.

*** I should like to remind all our members that before you start to relay these type of crime messages, please verify them first with the sender.
(If the sender cannot verify the truth of the message DO NOT relay the message to anyone)
If everyone does that we can stop these type of mis-information from being spread around. Please stop the abuse of the SMS system and also the email systems.

Please always remember that your blind forwarding of unconfirmed crime messages will one day prove to be detrimental when a real crime occurs.

Robertec, I think the 8-digit number 9237 6677 is a Singapore mobile number, no?

Could be a Singapore Number, but the prefix was 019.

Please note that all the messages that I have posted above were "copy and paste", even the one from my mobile phone, so there is no typo error.

By the way if you had read the messages carefully, even the number plate of the Satria is different.

This is no hoax. It happens in BU at 8.30am when everyone is either at work or in school. The mother was sending her kid to day care when 4 Indian in a stolen vehicle intercepted her car and bashed her to the floor. There was a big commotion however the criminals daring bid kept neighbors away with parangs and guns and got away despite the poor kid mom fearless attempt to stop them. I don’t want to say more but RA CCTV footage are being looked at. The vehicle number plate is not of help as the cops say it’s a false plate. During these hard economic times, please take extra precaution when driving to ensure no one is tailing you. This is not the first tailing incident that was reported. There was a case that the robber was dressed exactly like the guards before pounding on the victim when he got out of the car.

Yes the case is true.

However because it was under Police investigation, we were advised not to report it.

In the end, the investigation did yield results.

There were no less than 5 different versions of what actaully happened.
In each version, the Place of abduction was different, the vehice Number was different and the Mobile Contact Number was different.

It is simply unbelievable how facts can be twisted with each forwarding of the SMS or Email.

I have been made to understand that the HeadMaster of the School where the boy studies even made an announcement that the boy was kidnaped at the school assembly.

The point here is that information forwarded must be accurate, I am sure that most people are well meaning but forwarding an unconfirmed message could lead to dire consequences.

Let's not wait for that to happen..

Confirm the source of your message before you forward it.

I dunno, seems the last I heard of kidnapping in SJ/USJ was the kid in SS19.
BU & SJ/USJ are popular areas for this kind of activity. Alot of people mistaken these 2 areas as rich people community whereas we are all just middle class folks trying to make a decent living in an honest way. tsk tsk tsk...
