I noticed there's not many "proper" zeebra crossings in SJ. Every time I see senior citizens trying hard to avoid mad drivers crossing the road, my heart shivers........ Hoping them to stop for you to cross the road is like "KENA TOTO"!
We don't want stone-age zeebra crossings, but we need those disabled-friendly type with timer and sound like those found in Japan.

C'mon, SJ being one of the best townships and we don't have such basic infrastructure??

Come to think of it; I've never ever seen anyone in Malaysia getting fined or even told off by the police for stopping (moto or car) on the zebra line! Fact is, you're not safe on a zebra line even when the light shows a green walkman.

Isn't that what should be addressed first?

In fact where is the zebra crossing in SJ or USJ?
In KL, I don't see the car stopping or slowing down at zebra crossing.

However in Melaka...most of the car stop at the zebra crossing. Still, i don't feel safe at all.

So much for "caring" Malaysians... over hyped a load of bull! You're mostly on your own or to each his/her own, already hard set in Malaysian mindset.

The international idea of a zebra crossing is zebra strips across the road with flashing amber lights on both sides of the road. The sides of the road leading to the zebra crossing will have zig-zag white lines to warn the motorist of an impending zebra crossing (as opposed to straight white lines).

If you don't believe me read it from the wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebra_crossing) and look at the pictures.

As far as I know, those crossings with traffic lights are NOT zebra-crossings. Those are light-controlled pedestrian crossings.

Both are very different. Basically, zebra crossings allow the pedestrian to cross whenever they like and the cars MUST stop when the drivers see a pedestrain putting his/her foot on the crossing. It is an offense to hit a pedestrian at a zebra crossing.

If you want to find a zebra-crossing, we have one right smack in front of the main entrance to the MPSJ complex at USJ5 (crossing over from USJ11). Look for the prominant yellow-white markers placed on the sidewalk as you approach the zebra-crossing.

If some of you don't know what a zebra-crossing really is, it says a lot about the respect for pedestrians crossing at such crossings.

I understand that in Singapore, if a driver knocks into a Pedestrian using the Zebra Crossing for whatever reason, even if the pedestrian is in the wrong.

This is what the driver can look forward to:
1. Mandatory jail sentence
2. Heavy Fine
3. Suspension of driving license

If you want to have a look at a new age Pedestrian Crossing/Zebra Crossing go to Jalan Lagoon Timur, pretty neat.

Zebra crossing for pedestrians????

heck... :p you gonna have to wait for zebras to cross first before a car would stop... and the car behind you - would probably honk at you for stopping!!! :p

yes...i agree... once i stop at a zebra crossing in SG, the car really stops and ask me to cross... then once i was nearly knocked down while crossing at a zebra crossing in SG, a traffic police was so happen was behind the car that nearly knocked me down, then he gave a chase....

but i know this would not happen in MY, even you are crossing at a Zebra crossing, they will still horn at you

Zebra crossings,... yellow boxes... traffic lights.... whatever... half the freaking motorist (AND BIKES!) don't know the meaning of these traffic signs, rules and regulation....

No need to go far... jus observe the zebra x'ings, yellow boxes and lights in USJ and you get what I mean...

just realised another thing.... the motorist would probably stop, if they see a zebra at a zebra crossing.... OR a person in a "wonder"-bra crossing... (doesn't matter if man or woman :p :D )
