I heard that the Giant HyperMarket at USJ1 will be closing down soon. The post office there will close and start operating from Mydin Mall from 23rd February 2009.Is that true?
If it is, just wondering if anybody has any ideas/news of any new development at that site?

I reckon Mydin's fortunes are going to change for the better. Giant at Subang looks like going down to the history books, unless anyone will like to shop at Carrefour at Rhythm Avenue. Been there twice now, and the Digital Mall may be still void of many IT shops but looks promising.

I can't say much about how Giant manage their prices but all the while, personally I feel they've NOT been doing much, actually lackadaisical and not seen to be competitive in pricing against their neighbor. I guess it boils down to their source of goods. Even their prices for the same item is far different from branch to branch, say at Amcorp Mall and USJ only 15km away. Why?
This is subjective as different people, shop for different lot of goods. Like me, the essential goods I buy, I think I'll earn some savings at Mydin, not at Giant only 50metes away.

Personally, I guess I prefer going to Giant as it is located on ground level..therefore I get to do my shopping faster and not much hassle for me to push the trolley to my car. Compared to their neighbour..ya, it's cheaper but so much hassle as their actual store is located on the 1st floor and I have to fight through the crowd and the limited space due to the kiosks downstairs (and upstairs too !!!plus the salesman) before I get to do my shopping..
I was thinking of a bigger Giant like the one in Shah Alam..but that might be wishful thinking..

Can you guys tell me actually what is cheaper at Mydin?? I find that for home cleaning and toiletries, Giant is cheaper and sometimes even Jusco is cheaper than Mydin. When it comes to Diary products esp formula for children, cooking oil and breakfast beverage, Mydin's price is way high even Cfour is cheaper and there's no choices on organic vege.. When comes to freshness for fruits and vege, they are no where near Tesco. Nowadays when I feel like going to Giant, I visits the Putra Hgts, good bargain and great choices compares to USJ 1. Oh ya for those of you whose still holding giants coupons, do make use of it soonest as they expires by end february... BTW I got my 1.5kg tin of milo at RM18.++ after coupon deduction and mead johnson milk with RM4 discount per tin.. Good thing these coupons can be used on top of sale price!! Use them on Sats and Suns as Giant use to have great bargains on weekends.

I agree. Giant discount coupons are very useful (good thing I manage to get it last Dec). Better use it then....I thought it can last for the whole 2009..

Can anyone confirm that Giant USJ is opening store in Summit USJ?

I was at Giant to redeem the cash voucher and noted some
posters that implied the above.

The poster stated that RM1.00 discount (week days) is given for purchases >RM50.00 at Giant in Summit USJ. RM2.00 during weekends.

I thought that applies to parking facilities..

Do you know that last Sunday Giant charged me extra 50 cents for my frozen Bakers' Street curry chicken pie? The price in the ad RM5.99 but they charged me RM 6.49. And the ad also said there was chicken but upon arrival (it was 8.30 in the morning) and they said they were out of stock (the promotion began on Friday). Either its popular or is Giant conning us?

Fortunately they gave me my 50 cents back after I claimed it at the Customer Care Counter. (I know I am 'cheapstakety' but its still money)

thought the Putra Hgts Giant may have fresher food since its so new and thought of giving it a second chance since the USJ1 branch is hopeless with ts fresh foodstuff! SIGH!!! Still the same. Bought bawal putih 2 weeks back and after just 2 days in the freezer, it smells like salted fsh when I fried it. It's rotten.!! 2 days back bought ikan tauhu and thought of cooking it today. Again its like salted fish!! What is the matter with the storage and management of Giant nowadays?? Another joke is most of the organic vege I saw 2 days back are yellowish at the rack and still they are selling them!
I had asked the staff and was told they don't have enough fridge to put the vege so that's why they turned yellowish after some time...
Well I am definately not going to get any fresh stuff from Giant anymore!
This never happened when I buy from TEsco and Jusco

Giant is always doing this kind of things, for eg, nescafe 3-in-1 RM7.99 today only, while stock last, ads on papers the same day, went there at 10:30, already ran out of stock, this kind of scenario happened many many times, they always use this tactic to attract customer.

I think they only have 10 packs of nescafe on sales for RM7.99 or none at all????

If the same ads is from Tesco, if you go there in the afternoon, you will still find boxes and boxes of nescafe there.

to buy fish or chicken from hypermarkets, i always look at the overall colour of the meat or fish, in the case of fish, the colour of the flesh should be reddish preferably the eyes of the fish should be clear and not reddish. the gills should be red and not white. finally, i give fish a quick sniff just to make doubly sure it is relatively fresh.

when it comes to chicken, the skin should be white, no blue black or green spots marks. there should also not be any "bad smell".

i am happy to say in all these years of buying chicken and fish from hypermarts, i "kena" bad chicken only once....... :D

I was told by a poultry operator that frozen chicks normally shows goosepimple all over...No such problem when go for Nutriplus Chicken from Hypermarts @ Cfour / Jusco but sadly dunno why Giant and Mydin no Nutriplus Chicken. Very fresh and juicy and taste great!! Family loves it. Also from good source. Not much different (only RM0.50-0.80/kg more, sometimes when chicken price goes up, their price still maintain).

Despite all the warnings, experiences shared etc etc...there are still folks who want to test their luck!! What to do!?!?!? ;-)
