Subject: SJ Alert EMS Security Patrol for USJ9??
Hi SJAlert members,
yesterday I was approached at my home in USJ 9/5C by an Indian man who said he is representing Kawalan Keselamatan Sentral (M) Sdn Bhd and that his company provided security patrol for a fees of RM30-00 per month from each household. Their company is replacing the previous company who are no longer providing the service.
On the letter, was stated for us to call Kevin at 016-7472816.
Last year, I do recalled seeing some motorbikes/cars going ard USJ 9 with lights flashing and I was informed by neighbours that they are security ppl patrolling USJ 9. At that point, nobody approached me for their services but now they are approaching me, I would like to see some advice from SJAlert on this matter.
How reliable/secured are the security services provided as USJ 9 is a open housing area unlike parts of USJ 11, which most USJ residents would have known by now that, USJ 11 have been 'barricaded' and checks are done to ensure entry/access is not so open to non residents.
And if I do not subscribe to the security services, will my home be "targetted" as a non member by this security team ?
I seek SJAlert advices on this as I am losing sleep over this the whole of yesterday. Tq.
Best regards.

Hi there,
They were once active in USJ 13 but from what I gather, not very successful cos not many took up the service as there were doubts about their background etc. Haven't seen them of late. Yes the name, contact nos etc are similar.
Personally I doubt their effectiveness as they just go around on their bikes with their flickering lights on. They don't approach suspicious characters...so it's rather meaningless to me.
Just my views.

Dear all,
My opinion is not to pay the 'unofficial' or 'unregistered' security service. This will encourage people to collect so-called 'extortion' money. I suggest to form a management committee in your area and select the reliable security firm to provide sevice in your area. It is not easy to get every household to pay for the services but the appointed (approved by committee) security firm should be able to help and ask house owners to contribute the monthly services. this concept is like the gate community where the money spent can be audited and to get reliable services.
Best Regards,

Hello Yik Kee
I think the same company is providing such patrolling services in SS12 as well. I did not take it up but a few of my neighbours have. Basically, there is a guy on motorbike who goes round the area every hour or half hour (can't remember) between 6/7 p.m. till 6/7 a.m. and keeps an eye of the houses that registers for the service. E.g. they will call the clients if they find that they have forgotten to lock their cars left outside the house, etc.
Not sure how effective they are or whether you should be 'losing sleep' if you don't take up the service. The same thought of whether I could be 'targetted' if I didn't take up the service did cross my mind, but I have decided to give them the benefit of the doubt .... but also rely on divine protection.

Hi Liaw,
We have the same kind of clowns in Taman Perindustrian UEP.Ours are Pakistani doing part time, the'll start at 9pm-7am they'll just come on a motorbike and shine their torch light at yr house for RM30 pm.
I have a very simple solution anything happens to your house or car just report to the police. Most likely they are the ones...

Peter

hi yik kee
i was informed that these sentral security fellas are currently being engaged by the rows of houses (participating houses only) in the sub-section of usj6/3 rows for security patrolling ... altho i do see them patrolling in other parts of usj6 too ... the mobile security are usually on bikes with/without the strobe-light ... their daily timing is almost quite predictably regular (as per my personal observation) ... and the patrol staff do not look malaysian.
i met one of their staff recently -- mr kesvin rao (dunno his position within the company) ... and they are trying to increase the mass of houses signed up for the patrolling services offered by his company in our township ...
... to address your concern, the onus is to get detailed info or do background search of any security company that you ultimately employ for such services ... the police should be able to help in this aspect of vetting tho the process may take time depending on any complexity ...
ultimately, it is still the best policy to properly secure your home (as best as possible or as you can afford), be alert to unusual (or even normal) happenings in your vicinity (perhaps being more than a busy-body is good precaution too!), be defensively-savvy as personal precaution ... and get coopeeration from your neighbours as much as possible.

More Cons than Pros...
Yup, They will call if found gate / car / door unlock.
Yup, They round the area every 30 minutes.
Yup, a lot of residents no longer renew its service.
But I will not critise them, either Malaysian or Pakistanis,as it is going to be personal. If you dun like, just ignore. If they do funny thing at your house, report to police.
Cheers.

They have been trying to promote their services in SS14/7 area.
They come around 10pm-2am and got a ticking off from Chief Inspector Sulaiman as it caused concern especially with their "guards" (who can't speak English or BM coz they are foreigners) shining their lights into houses. Their excuse is "marketing".
A dubious lot...we have turned them away.

I have seen Sime Darby patrol car with light on top patrolling USJ9 at night time.
If a well known security company offers the patrolling service, I would consider taking it since it is just RM30/mth. But if it is an unknown security company, my worry will be they are keeping an eye at my house that when is the right time to break in and etc... or they can even sell the info to "some people"... This is just my thought.

There is no shortcut to all of this.
If you guys are really concerned about the safety and security of your family and property join your residents' group or neighbourhood watch.
I will put you in touch with them if you don't already know who they are.

IMHO.. how much they can do to help to prevent things from happen? Is your area gated? If not, theft could happen at anytime and anywhere.
If I remember correctly, only Locals and Nepalese can become a security guard. Other nationalites are not allowed. They could be unlicensed security company.
Work together with your neighbour. Get to know them, specially your left, right, front and back neighbours as they are the nearest. They might come a big help when you needed it.
