Has anyone travelled to Langkawi during the peak season? My family will be going there this CNY and was asking around to rent a MPV to fit all of us. The rate quoted is RM250-300 per day! Is that the peak season rate? Does anyone has any contacts with better rates?

300!! fuiiyoh.... for a place where vehicles are tax and duty free...( where a 2.4 camry is less than 120K) that is freaking expensive!!

then again... blame the foreign tourist for their tourist dollars, euro and pounds... :p any amount is peanuts to them...

Rent the car at the Langkawi airport there. Competition among them will provide you a good bargaining power.

I have already enquired at Maystar Holiday which has a booth in the airport. He is offering me RM250 per day for MPV. All the contacts I've called are charging the same or 300. Must be taking advantage of the CNY period.

Hi there

I was attached with a beach resort in Langkawi for 08 years. Maybe my knowledge will be able to assist you.

The rates for renting a car varies between RM 80.00 and RM 150.00, depending on the model of the car and the season (Peak / Off-Peak). Your travel date falls on CNY hence it will be a peak season rate.

Here are some of the car rental agencies operating in Pulau Langkawi:
a. Kasina Rent-A-Car / Tel: +604 644 1842 / Email: rental@kasina.com.my /
Website: www.kasina.com.my
b. Legend Admire Tours & Travel Sdn. Bhd / Tel: +604 966 1368
c. Sala Travel & Tour Sdn. Bhd / Tel: +604 966 7521 / Email: sala@tm.net.my
d. Mahamas Travel & Tour Sdn. Bhd / Tel: +604 966 7689 /
Mobile: +6019 449 8008

Oh, and by the way, cars can also be rented from booths at the Langkawi International Airport. However, I would suggest you consider to pre-book in advance during this Peak Season. Also, you may consider to email to some of the email above but don't expect any quick reply hence best to call them directly.

I hope above information will be in any help to you.
Between which hotel had you booked?

Have Great Holiday!

Cheers
JC

Hi JC, thanks for the info. I called some of them and I guess that is the standard rate everyone is charging this CNY season. I will be staying at Holiday Villa.

Was there a month ago which was during the holiday season, though not the peak period. Proton Iswara was going for RM60 a day and I was told it can go down RM40 during low season. Heard somebody got an MPV for abt RM160 a day. CNY is super-peak season, so I guess you can't compare with normal rate la.

Renting two sedan cars would be cheaper than renting an MPV.

Now we know why local tourism suffers... cos the local operators think they can take everyone for a ride everytime they have the opportunity to do so... and that is a fact!

You are welcome.
You will be staying at Pantai Tengah where Holiday Villa is located.
Good choice however do be prepare as Holiday Villa shares the same beach with two other resort ... during peak season you may feel a bit crowded. If so walk over to a resort before Holiday Villa.. it is call Fangipani... less crowded.

During good days, you will see the BEST sunset which is located from Cenang and Tengah Beach.

Enjoy your holiday.

Cheers

Thanks for your info. I've stayed a night at Westin Langkawi before for work purpose and the sunset there was beautiful as well. Now my next agenda is to look for food. I heard there's a Chinese restaurant near the hotel called Fat Mum. Would you recommend the place? Thought of having our CNY-eve dinner there.
