michellin is cheating me of my free digital tyre pressure gauge.
The authorised Michelin branded dealer in PJS, told me that the michellin people do not have enuff stock of these freebies for every 2 tyres purchase..i bought 4 to get 1 gauge BUT they cheat me by saying 'NO stock' for the past 5weeks already!

Even the blady michellin website in malaysia do not bother to reply to my 2 emails complaining about the the False and Misleading Promotion...
I am now going to email the mcihellin HQ and see if the this cheating habit is driven by the kwai loh form the top...

Then i am filing a complaint to the Consumer Assoc includ CASSA...(wonder fi they interested to play watch dog to consumers blur sotong who got conned by Freebie offer?? :p

BUT that is not to say to stop haggling those folks at Michelin yah, give them kau kau....

"while stocks last" ? hahahahahah...i know that line too. I too made a career from "selling you dreams and aspirations"

BUT it does not exonerate them of their promise. Advertising tells half truth. BUT not lies.

By embarking a mass media campaign giving 'Free Xrated rain coat worth XRinggit' does not mean that they can say 'sori ah, outta stok' please accept an umbrella and a mug as the alternative gift!'

MICHELIN is a LIAR!

The free digital michelin gauge will be couriered to me via a co (complete with airway no. sumore!) by wednesday!!!!!!!

Now all this bad publicity could have been avoided and my brand loyalty to the fatman brand, could not have been compromised, if only the fatman marketing people had done their job! Talk about incompetency! If they my people, early early i goreng their sotong alredi!

Now, i am watching the paint dry and the lalang grow for the courier co to come by wednesday... ...and that the nicely packed package is not a stupid mug and a tool set!

Good point Tupai, big companies like Michelin should be more responsible than advertising for free stuff they don't have or not enough stocks of. They should not even launch a promotion if they are not able to fulfill their obligations. As it is, Michelin is already giving their loyal customers the short end of the stick... check out their MPV/SUV tyres under the Michelin Latitude brand and you will see that they only carry tyre sizes for a very limited range, only for those vehicle models / tyre sizes that are a lot on the road. In other words they are only interested in PROFIT and not service to the motoring public (which they will also make money but perhaps carry the risk of holding inventory a lil bit longer, thats all). Companies like these should be boycotted at all costs. Tupai, let us know if you do not receive the gauge this Wednesday...

If not mistaken Michelin Malaysia is a local company, owned and managed by local partners. The people manning the company front are locals and you know Malaysian work culture, habits and attitude is not exactly in most people's minds as exemplary.
Perhaps this is kind of problem is trivial and they scramble to act only if there's open complaint where the whole world is likely to see this on the internet or media.
C'mon.. time and again, we see all sorts of consumer complaints in the media and those companies take it easy not to respond to the problem but scramble to act when its highlighted in the media. Malaysia for you all!..

True for some companies, BS, but not ALL companies. Many companies I work for has a consumer complaints process built in and each call and response and follow-actions are automatic and logged on. A good consumer-focused company will have the CEO being briefed every other week or month on all complaints logged however trivial, and the corrective actions taken.

Only the locally-owned and managed companies scramble when they get into the media. Established companies normally would not permit the process to go that far.

As consumers, we must continue to complaint and ask for the service quality we pay for, there is nothing trivial about it. I am a guy from the FMCG background and I strongly believe that complaints would only improve the level of product quality and service level, period.

Now I remember - the term they used was CSR ie Consumer Service Response - which was a buzzword in the late 90s. Now, I understand its known as Corporate Social Responsibility (also CSR)... :D

Question is: did they ever have any stock in the first place? If so, would this still protect them?

Sori lah...late late reply.

The couriered parcel came as promised after I goreng their sotong kawkaw.

The digital meter is a diff type...its a 3-in-1.
Nice. A pressure gauge, a hand-powered-winding torch and a mini hammer (to smash the windscreeen, in case, your car kena swept into the kalng river,a nd u need to smash something to crawl out...)

BUT i will never buy michellin tyre again. If the HQ had not adopted such a lackadaisical approach,t he dealer & saleman had not taken the easy way out, they probably would have retain my long established brand loyalty, for all my vehicles! Now, they have lost it! Tai-seh! :p

I aint no F1 driver, so the cheaper continental or sime or dunlop tyres are equally good for my needs. :p

Hey Tupai, don't underestimate both Continental and Dunlop tyres yah, especially those imported ones. I have Continental rubbers on my Golf GTI and handles damn good along the Batu Ferringhi winding road.... I chose the Continental rubbers over the Michelin Pilot after reading the road tests...

Urrr...tupai. You could at least ask them if they have the gauge before purchasing the tyres no? If no stock, then don't buy la. You can exercise you consumer right or you can do like what puteri_melayu55 did. Throw something in the salemen face and then challenge him to step outside.

My station wagon just put on brand new continental tyres (fatmnan rugi) :D
i used dunlop for years for the other tin-can, until my good friend resigned...(there goes the staff purchase).. :p

my Winnie loves the semi-knobby bridgestones to bits...
...and Juicy Lucy has a pair of jap dunlop for cruise.

yeah, Sentinel, u r rite!

And do u know that fatman tyre gives softer ride and the fatman sidewall is also softer than the rest....so, u when u hit a typical lowrise kerb, the sidewall can go psssssstttt..."sori ah, cannot repair busted sidewall ah." :D

the shortage of promotional gift reflects poor planning (under forecast/logistic issues/supplier shortcoming etcetcetc) by the marketing/brand management people (the 'science' of any bizz). The dealer and the poorly trained salesman only regurgitate the lesser 'art' of bizz.) Marketing 101 can retrain the malaysian michellin people to better serve the brand loyal customers...Or I can short train them for a Euro188,000 fee, paid upfront.:D

Hi Tupai,

I like your approach. Malaysian consumers have always been treated like dirt.

We are only requesting them to deliver what they promise/offer, and yet we have to go so far to get what we have been promised..

I have a really nasty experience with a foreign bank who always claims customer satisfaction is their top priority.

They made a mistake, and the best part is I have the documented evidence but the idiots at the branch level refused to acknowledge the mistakes.

When I threatened to expose to the press, they sent 2 staff to my house the next morning and hand-delivered an apology letter.

Sometimes, I wonder whether it is because Malaysian consumers(generally) are “nice” people, as such managing consumer satisfaction is only as good as advertisement talk…!!!!

You should have gone to the press. I don't see why you should let them off. If we the customer make the slightest mistake, they won't hesitate to penalize you with a ton of bricks. An apology letter is "cheap", nothing more than printed paper with some signature. But if they can't even do that earlier, I'm speechless. I don't seen any shame in admitting a mistake, do best in not repeating it and improve thereon.

Not so simple as that lah BS. Many people are employees and for some they hold COO/CEO positions in listed companies so to come out in the paper complaining a tyre pressure gauge... tak bolehlah, hard to explain to the board members lah...

I think so long as tupai made his purchase during the promotional period, the onus is ON the vendor to advise the purchaser that such gift was no longer available. Alternatively, the vendor should put up a Notice to advice potential purchasers that such and such a premium is no longer available. I strongly believe failure on the part of the Vendor to take this proactive action can be construed as intention to mislead the customer.

1month into the 3month promo period seeing 'stok sudah habis' reflects poorly on the Brand management/Marketing people.

If me bosman, sure i goreng the whole lot from Marketing director to mkt manager to product manager kawkaw!

Ill-planned marketing kempen resulting in losing market share and worst, potential loyal users switching brand...we dont change tyres every other weekend (except soft compound racing tyres lah :p ...and the next purchase would be like what 40K-60k clocked?

I have done this when I bought my Dell laptop. Just make sure you cc the FTC in your email to michellin. With the Toyota recall case still hot, let's hope they're not hypocrite.
