*******

btw... for those planning to buy/receive car at year end, do try to hold off till 2009 cos' effectively when you register the car now - it would reflect as 2008 and thus - the car would be a year old... still, you could say it was registered in DEC 2008 when you sell the car...

Having said that - well, this suggestion wouldn't hold water if you're planning to "show off" your new car to the relatives/family/geng on Christmas or New Year eve :p LoL !!! :p

I would like to clarify that I posted the above to tease Tupai... I am not a Toyota rep and many of you also PM'ed me to ask for special price of Vios. No, my apologies again, I was only kidding Tupai. If you want to buy Toyota cars, PM USJ27Resident, he is the guy.

Actually the year of manufacture is more important as used car dealers will use that and not the year of registration.

Good one Sentinel!

Even I-duh-lesser-blur-sotong got sucked in! With your multi-talent, I really thought that toyota (or even any marketing savvy co) would 'allow' free agent sales, with condition attached lah!

But the personalised 'KK69' was the coup d grace! I would pay for that no or even 'KK1100'...

5 year? Still can use la... bro, no need to waste money!! Hondas are oso VERY reliable cars... provided you take care of her, :)

Cars are like a girlfriend... treat her well... and ONLY sometimes they give you headache, but mention the word "sell" - they will suddenly become a very 'good' and 'problem free' car... she make you "sayang" want to sell her?? how?? ... :D

So far it has clocked +50,000km and taken 7 adults on field trips nationwide without a problem...its Not exactly a luxurious MPV or extravagance SUV or whatever comfy V....but for a tad above rm100k or was it a tad below 100K, its does serve its purpose with no fuss...so went the feedback.

Gina, I drive an Innova and I can tell you that my whole family thinks it is a great idea. So far, I had used it to ferry relatives to and fro KLIA with large baggages. Fold up the 3rd row of seats and you get a great boot space. I have even transported long items by folding down all the passenger seats.

Seating 7 passengers (not counting myself as the driver - therefore 8 adults in the car) is not a problem ... that is using a 2-3-3 formation. And that conforms to the seat-belt requirements come 2009 even. Keeping kids in the last row is great as there are no doors, hence a peace of mind - no chance of an itchy fingered kid unlocking and opening the doors while the car is in motion. By the way, there are air-cond vents for all 3 rows of seats.

Despite its height and size, the Innova is incredibly easy to handle. Back parking is extremely easy due to its huge wing mirrors. Me being a poor man, I bought the cheapest model - which has no electric mirrors - I set them manually once and that's it. The mirrors are so big that I can even see the curb when I back the car. I now find it difficult to back-park saloon cars because their mirrors are so small by comparison.

And by the way, it also has a great turning circle. Have you tried doing a u-turn with the Proton Waja? The huge Innova has an even smaller turning circle!

The best part is the height. You get a good view of the road ahead.

The 2 litre engine is strong enough to bring the whole car up slopes - have you driven up Jalan Semantan (in front of Wisma Damansara)? The Innova goes up on overdrive (5th gear) easily - I drive a manual gear version. Of course, Genting Highlands is another thing altogether but even with that, I find it easier with the Innova.

disclaimer - I don't deal in cars, I just love the Innova. Of course, there are a lot of MPV-types to choose from. But if you are not ready to spend a lot (like poor me), this is the one. Don't take my word for it - go for a test drive.

That is called a brake/pedal lock. Can get anywhere @ most accessories shop costing between RM250-450 each. Just make sure you get one installed with a "cut-off" switch, [slightly higher price] which does not allow you to 'switch on' the engine - until you unlock the pedal lock. If you do not have this type - you are gonna get a heck of a shock, finding out that you CANNOT press the brake pedals should you engage the gears !!! AND THE CAR IS NOW IN MOTION!!!

Friends & Buddies...

Yes - I do sell Toyotas but for those that cannot hook up with me, please go to your nearest UMW Toyota outlet for the 12-14th Dec Roadshow promos... for the year end deals.

ALL the outlets will give you specials plus have brokers/secondhand dealers willing to evaluate your trade-ins on the spot.

As for those planning to buy a MPV - my advice is - do consider the Avanza 1.5 for one without busting the bank. The Innova is a good workhorse too.

Or if you are willing to wait and see, our national car [Proton] will also be launching their very own MPV [7seater] which is rumored to be a cross [love child?] between a Wish and a Stream... :p Price is somewhere between an Avanza and an Innova [ 80K +/-] but engine still dunno yet ! Could be a 1.6 [Campro/underpowered for that size!] or a 2.0 [Perdana engine/liability & old tech.]

Thanks for the good advice which i didnt thot of. Is there any particular brand to go for?....

As long as its a brake pedal lock WITH a cut off switch... you'd be fine... like I said, prices depends on installer and location - same device/brand can cost like rm100 more just because you installed it in... say Subang Jaya as compared to Puchong :p

You see, the brake pedal lock works in this manner, it slides to a locking position in which the sliding part covers the assembly nuts and bolts that holds the device in place... when the car thieves cannot get to this part, the only option is to TOW your car... that is another story pulak.
More often than not - should the thieves try to break the locking mechanism - it jams and will not slide to open... another disadvantage to the thieves, is the location of the brake pedal lock... its sooooo down there, that it is a darn bloody inconvenience to be bending and contorting oneself to reach the lock itself... :p

Hi USJ27Resident, I need a little advice from you. I was thinking about getting either the Altis or the Salphy. Which one is better based on your unbias recommendation?

Get Sylphy... www.sylphy.com.my or www.nissan.com.my
or call Subang Jaya branch 5633 4518 / 5633 4513 Branch Manager Mr. Ho

I will opt for the Altis. My wife used to have the first generation Altis back in 2003 which was stolen in front of my eyes by car jackers at Subang Parade. The Altis is really a mid-sized saloon with the smooth VVTi engine and comfortable trimmings. Good second-hand value and good performance - very nippy. And I am saying this based on my experience on the first edition 5 years ago.... I can imagine it must be better now since I read somewhere it has been adopting lots of developments / improvements from the Lexus ES300 model....

for those afraid of car stolen when parked. Try to park head in for front wheel drive vehicles and rear in first for rear wheel drive cars..This is to prevent towing. Not totally theft proof, but makes it harder for them.

True... due to the fact that the wheels/gears would be in the PARKED mode. However - if you have an Avanza - thats gonna be tough to reverse park in a one way street, diagonal parking lot !! :p Only to find tow-trucks with the mini-wheels device (same as our MPSJ tow truckers) by-passing our vehicles own tyres.... to be towed away...

Thanks for the advice guys. I heard that the salphy has got a real cool seemless automatic gear shift not seen at this entry level car. Was quite impress with it when I went to have a look at it. Till my heart tells me to go for the altis with its new look and lower profile and center of gravity. This is gonna be a big battle for me.
