You will need to be more informative. What brand and model is the modem?

any device that allows for shared connectivity to the single internet line must be a "router". A router is a device wired or programmed to identify individual terminals and allocate communication channels to each of them on a shared basis so each user "thinks" they are the only connection on the internet - the router's job is to administer the sharing of time slices and resources for each individual user.
If yr modem does not have this router facility, then I guess you can only connect one user at a time
of course, this is my layman logic - can a techie verify my logic?

If there is a setup wizard CD, you might want to run that again.
Also, check under the LAN setting. There might be something changed there.

Is this your modem/router ? http://www.sustainer.co.il/en/r_productDetails.aspx?PID=752
Anyway, perhaps you could manually input the IP of your laptop.
Go to network connections -> right click "wireless connection" -> click properties -> select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) under general tab -> click properties -> select use the following IP address.
The IP address is what IP you would like your laptop to use.
If your router IP is something like this, 192.168.1.1, then you could put your laptop IP to 192.168.1.3. Ensure that the IP you specify for your laptop is not being used by the other computer!
Subnet mask should be at default, 255.255.255.0
Default gateway should be your router ip.
For the DNS servers,
Input two from 202.188.0.133, 202.188.0.132, 202.188.1.5 in any order or choice.
Hope this helps =d
