Confusing directional signages causing motorists to waste time, petrol and money (http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2008/10/24/central/2341857&sec=central)

IF you are driving in the Klang Valley and need to rely on directional sign boards to find your way, you will be driven crazy.

Ask any road user who has depended on the sign boards to find his way, chances are he will relate his frustrating experience of being led into taking a longer route, most of the time requiring him to pay toll, when he could have reached his destination via a shorter route, saving petrol, time and avoiding pay toll.I am quite sure that many of you can relate to the stories in this article.

It reminds me of a friend's impression of Malaysia and the Klang Valley when she first arrived...

she once told me that getting around was quite interesting.

"in Malaysia, in order to get from point A to point B, one must first visit the rest of the alphabet" I might add, that one will probably pay more money than they have to.

True or not? But what are we commuters going to do about it?

Well, one solution is to raise awareness and spread information to other people...

the saying goes "let the buyer beware" but the buyer needs to have info in order to beware. If the supplier isnt going to provide the info, it is up to the consumer to find the info and become aware.

So, if you would like to share your experiences or give advice on places to watch out for...please do it.

We may think that the amount we spend on these unnecessary tolls is minor...but it does add up...and the public ought to have the right to choose their travel.

Yes.... years back when I first drove from Singapore to KL. After Sg. Besi Toll plaza, I relied on road signs till I reached a roundabout at Pudu, thereafter, there were no signs pointing me to Subang Jaya. So, I ended up lost in Pudu for hours searching the way..:D :D :D

Thats why they say, "Malaysia is full of signs and wonders". You follow a sign and then wonder where you are.

Try to finding the ERL terminal at Sentral coming from the direction of Old Klang road. The is a nice signboard with a picture of a train but it points you to the BUS pickup area.

Sometimes the signboards do point you in the right direction, but are hidden behind overhanging branches. At other times, they are too near the interchange & you won't have enough time to choose your desired route.

My worst experience is driving from Seremban to Batu Caves once. The place is a very popular tourist spot, but the signs pointing to it are so vague. I had to "pusing" so many times in Selayang, Gombak & Kepong to find it!

They skimp on having proper directional signs when no one wants to take responsibility for the cost of erecting them.

Take the case of NPE outside the Sunway Pyramid. If you were a first timer you would probably be pretty confused, why? because they have not erected clear overhead "gantry" directional signs.

But then who are we to comment, they have experts looking into such things.

cud not agree more......our signages and directions sucks big time, it is very confusing.
we name our highways but when you are on the highway, there is not a sign that tells you that you are actually on NEP, kesas or whatever highway.

Most of the signboards are really useless.

They give directions to all the destination insteads of the nearest city (ie. next stop). eg. I see a sign going to seremban and KL with the same arrow.

For goodness sake, seremban is in south and KL is in north.

They should display the next stop instead.

my experiance told me that most signboards here just tried to lead you into the tolls & ended up paying to the daylight robbers.

My experience is most directional signboard are not visible to the driver until too late, or point to the wrong exit, or is place before the exit (like 2 or 3 exits before) and you end up in the wrong place. If ur not familiar with the roads.

concern!!!

if you concern paying the toll, dont blame the signboards.

almost NIL our drivers using the road map, which may help you to find road options.

almost NIL our drivers using the road map, which may help you to find road options.
And this is because NIL of our roadmaps are accurate; and NIL of our roadmaps show the actual flow of traffic; and NIL of our roadmaps show which roads are tolled.

i was in Australia early this year....i was amazed at the way they display their signboards. Clear, accurate and if you get lost, stop by a information booth and they will guide you.

Malaysia?? I've given up on our signboards long time ago. Yes, going to seremban and Kl will be the same signboard....how foolish!!
