You would think the economy is in the slumps, but just caught this off the Edge:

In the first nine months of 2008, the company sold a total of 2,884 units of BMW and MINI vehicles, up 32% from a year earlier, BMW Malaysia managing director Geoffrey Briscoe said in a recent statement.

If the lower range BMW car prices are already about RM200,000-300,000, then would you believe the average value of cars sold in the 9 months total about RM500 million?

:P

These are sold by BMW Malaysia only....

What about those sold by NAZA and the other parallel importers incl. the reconditioned units?

I guess there's a lot of money in the market. Maybe easy credit... 0-down, 9-year hire purchase schemes?

Perhaps an urban rumor, Ah Long, kwai kung, DVD sellers are amongst those who'd snap up a Bimmer in properous times. I'm sure a lot of Bimmers are company owned. Thanks to your ruling government and the taxes, ordinary folks can only dream on..

Yes. That's for the 1st 9 mths.
Wait till u read about the sales figure for the last 3 mths of the year.

Also my banker cousin was telling me, recently a lot of BMW, Benz owners are taking up personal loan for a small amount of RM30k-50k. And most afraid their application won't be approved. So morning submit application form, afternoon invite banker for lunch.

It's mainly the prevalence of these small loans which created the need for bailout of Bank Bumiputera on two occasions, the first one, if i recall correctly, 15 billion and the second one 21 billion.
