I seem to lost mine already.

Any idea whether still important or not?

If you wish, you can always get an extract from the National Registration Department (JPN). May be a good idea to make a police report as well.

Better get it replaced or else you may one day end up being a PR instead of a citizen. You know, computer glitches ?!!!

Your birth certificate is the foundational document that proves your citizenship. Its the only document that proves that you are born a Malaysian citizen. So you better go over to the JPN and get a certified extract :)

Your birth certificate is the foundational document...

What bobkee said is so true.
And... Never give out the original B.Cert. It may never return...
Always provide only a certified copy if necessary, holding onto your dear original B.Cert. :)
If it goes missing, maybe the name may get replaced by a different name in years to come...
Immigression records can go missing... Malaysia Buleh :o

Err buddies...it's better to get QUICKER replacement copy from the relevant JPN office nearest to where you were born...

If in Penang...go to Penang.
If in Malacca...go to Malacca.
likewise if Kota Bahru...go to Kota Bahru.

Otherwise...when you try to get a replacement copy from ANY JPN offices
in KL/PJ/Putrajaya while your birth place is outstation...it would take them
about ONE month...to get you the replacement copy...

The birth cert is the most important document to proof that u're ur parent's child (when it comes to inheritance issues).
