Malaysia's 'worst in the world' taxis

http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/89947

"...paid a whopping RM260 from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to town"

"...some 200 foreigners from 30 countries rated Malaysia the worst among 23 countries in terms of taxi quality, courtesy, availability and expertise."

Some food for thought for the Minister or persons in charge.

Greetings.

I wonder how much does it take to drive from the 'famous' Subang Parade to SS 14? RM 10 was the last one i heard. Care to tell anyone?

What do you expect when the authorities are in cahoot with the operators.

Take the case of the taxi counters at the LCCT. I came back from an international destination a few days ago and wanted to buy a taxi coupon at the international arrival hall. I was quoted RM73 to USJ3 and queried why it was so expensive and they just said it is the standard fare. The public radio taxi I took to the airport only cost me RM50+. I then went over to the domestic taxi counter, and guess what...it's the same company selling the coupons, but, the fare is only RM52.

So what gives...?

wanna vomit blood!! have mentioned about LCCT taxis before... them drivers AND the counter staff will cutthroat anyone staying in USJ15-USJ27 and Putra Heights... why, because IT IS STILL NOT IN THEIR SYSTEM!!! You would have NO CHOICE but to pay Shah Alam fare to get to this places...

Complain? what is the freaking purpose... NFA... waste your bloody time running around to the relevant agencies... why? Like the letter says, them companies are usually linked to some bloody politician.... and no way the authorities would take any action...

Do you know for a fact, that the KLIA Limo service is co-owned by a FAT politician... nuff' said. Sometimes the taxi drivers grumble... they tell you a lot, but they have no choice. Renting a taxi is not cheap either... so they're "forced to get creative" to cover their daily rental.... Who's to blame...huh?

You also get to see touts running in and out, EVERYDAY at KLIA... [1. KLIA was selected as the World's Best Airport (15-25 million passengers per annum) in the Airports Council International-Airport Service Quality (ACI-ASQ) Awards 2007. This was the third consecutive year KLIA won this award.] World's best my ass... It's more like World's Best Dressed Touts... with jackets and ID tags... and you'd get the dumb tourist literally walking up to these scum... only to get fleeced. Then when leaving Malaysia... would curse' the country and people... for getting ripped off...

heck no... he's not fat... he's not large... he's actually fluffy... but I'll drop the politician subject here.... no point "disgusting" it... as long as the taxi drivers have no vested interest in owning their own permits... them taxi drivers will never change!

Then again... mebbe its the mentality, it's ingrained in (most of) them that they would escape serious punishment... so they continue to rip-off their passengers!

Here is an extract from a letter I sent to NST regarding taxi drivers..

...Yamin Vong's comments that.. "Bad taxis are in most places in the world except in Singapore, Switzerland, Germany, Britain and Japan".. Last week, my wife went alone to London Heathrow to visit my daughter, who met her at the airport. They then booked a cab using the information services, to Reading, and the agreed price was GP48, which was what most people would pay. However, after they entered the cab, and as it rolled along, the driver demanded GP80, claiming that his boss did not tell him the destination was Reading, but somewhere else.. At that point, my wife and daughter could only feel nothing more than lambs waiting to be fleeced.. at the mercy of the unscrupulous driver.. it was already dark (6pm), 2 helpless women in the back of the cab is definitely no match for one burly (and ugly looking) driver..

so.. GP80 (abt RM500 at that time) for a 40km trip.. anyone able to beat this?

I have always used the airport limo KLIA-Subang using the coupons.. never disappointed (so far)

dont be like that la...."kasian" our poor taxis men.

it can be happened at most major big cities in the world, well KL maybe a bit further dirtiest,

paxs choose lah the services between $50 + n $60 to destination, dont "kira" too much of the small different....,bus oklah exact amount.

in some developed countries, majority "cari makan" foreign taxis men,a scapegoat of the local authorities, always "kena".

local paxs(white/black/yellow and so on)..comes friday n saturday nights, after some drinks "y/sin?" when its time to go back,no coins to pay....u know what they did ?:

1. ride and when reach destination, exit and run away(in KL,hardly..)

2. upon arriving destination, politely says pls stop at the teller machine, when exit the door......dissappeared...funny,funny...many many.

3.....many many other stories

dont just "hantam" our taxis men...try share yr experiences travelling around the world ,dont just compare to aussie,uk,china ,spore ?,? only,THEN immediately be CELEBRITY (to hammer taxi man) in the forum..

Excuse me... be a celebrity? in hammering a taxi driver...

why not... when they overcharge or NOT use the meters... what the heck is the meter for then? interior decor?

Not everyone "prints" money...to 'just pay' the taxi driver's demands; but I would admit in the same breath... NOT all taxi drivers are bad... sad thing is, majority gives the minority a bad name... so how then?

As long as there is NO proper ENFORCEMENTS and LICENSING... you can forget about proper taxi services... and as long as you have a POLITICIAN sticking his FAT fingers in the permit pie... you can bet that the poor drivers will be exploited till the end of the gear stick!

Remember this BLUE colored taxi... It is a PRIVATEER... [driver owned permits] Some of us call it PIRATE-ER !!

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/352/kiamf0.jpg

Meter [flagdown] starts at RM6 for the first 1km and every subsequent 100m would cost 20cents. (or RM2 per km!) Meaning... Subang to Klang 35km would cost you in the region of RM76 !!

surely the metered taxis indicators are for decoration purposes in malaysia
so are the indicator lights in most private cars in malaysia!!! never signal to indicate their 'movements'
ditto with the head lamps in cars -never switch on in the evening or when visibility is poor during heavy rain which is not uncommon in the tropics

everyone behind wheels is breaking the law with impunity!!! whats new?

if i am not mistaken Rm73 is for premier taxi..

If you have a slightly big hardcase, they will say it cannot fit into the budget taxi, therefore you must get a premier one.
