Dear Christopher Ng,

We are new to the neighbourhood and have begun working recently at Jalan TP3 and were shocked to have encountered a protection racket working in the area. There are 3 men in a 4-wheel drive, one Indian and two Chinese, who disguise themselves as offering legitimate security services to the area. In the event their services are not deployed, they will come round discretely displaying their revolvers under their jackets as a warning. Thereafter, they will demand protection money. Upon chatting with our neighbour, we understand that they are facing similar problems.

Is this a common problem faced in this area? How would you advise us to deal with this problem?

Regards,

Yogi Wong Technical Division

Quick question here on TP3.

Is it the Factory / Taman Perindustrian Area?

As we are staying in TP 1 /1 - TP 1 / 9 does not seen any of them, but we have our own security firm as watch out team during 10 pm - 6 am next day morning.

But again, I agreed with Mr. Ng. Go direct to Balai Polis USJ 8.

Thanks.

Buddy Yogi,

Orchi spoke with CI Foo during the Balik Kampong Rumah Selamat campaign this morning.

He informed Orchi that he has NOT received any formal complaint from anyone
from TP regarding the incident raised by you previously.

You are advised to call CI Foo immediately to lodge a formal Police report in order
for him to take up necessary action.

Without the formal report from complainant, the Police cannot act accordingly,

Best regards
Orchi.

Dear Robert

Pardon me, but I do not think it is easy for Mr Yogi Wong and his team to lodge a police report if the protection racket has been there for awhile. I am sure they could be easily singled out and put themselves at certain risks of not being 'protected'. The question is whether this activity was unheard of all this while or it is an acceptable culture which is difficult to counter? - I don't know that is why a Police report is necessary - Robert

In short, there should be a better way of dealing with this situation.- criminal activities should be report to the Police what other way is there? - Robert

Dear Robert

I agreed that there is a need to lodge a police report for them to initiate the investigation. I did not question for the criminal activities to be reported and handled by our good policeman. What I meant was whether there are other alternatives to lend concrete support to people like Mr Yogi Wong. If we do not have, then we should consider looking for one. I mean we are all for better security in SJ and this country. If we can organise programs like Balik Kampung just to take care of security twice a year, we should also look at problems which are there all year round! Of course, if these were within our reach and mean.

There is an initiative by the Police together with Community Leaders, residents and Business leaders to set up Joint Community Policing Implementation Committees for each Balai Police in Subang Jaya.

You can read more here:
http://www.sjecho.com.my/article.php?id=442

These Committees meet up once every month.

Maybe you could make some suggestions, hand them over to me and I will present them to the Committee when we next meet.

please note that these people may also be holding unregistered or illegal weapons (or fakes, which will be treated as real by police officers).

The police report should specify criminal intimidation and if you can get a few dozen people to file the same report, then it should be clear to the police that this is a serious issue.

Cheers, Moaz

Dear Robert,

This is the first time I have written in to participate in the dialogue that is going on with regards to the protection racket at TP3. I had wanted to remain passive and read whatever that comes my way. But after reading the various comments I just could not sit still. I erupted with almost anger to note that our police the so keeper of the law, the so protector of the public, needs to receive an official report before action can be taken. This is ridiculous to say the least. Does that mean that when a crime has been reported in the local media, the police will not initiate an investigation because nobody made a police report? Does that mean that if this conversation is forwarded to the police, they will not investigate, even when someone has claimed of such an activity that is happening and causing fear to the area concerned?

Of course our police will not act and these gangsters will carry on with their terrorism unabated. Let me tell you guys a story that actually happened. My friend bought a 29" TV a few years ago from a department store in Subang Jaya and had it delivered to her house. At the time of delivery she was not in, only her son was in to take delivery. When the delivery boys left, her son's handphone which was left on the dinning table disappeared. When my friend came back she immediately called the department store where she bought the TV to report her suspicion. An hour or so later the department personnel called my friend to say that the delivery boys have taken the phone by mistake and ask her to call them directly on the handphone, to which she did. To her surprise the delivery boy admitted taking the H/P but refused to return and instead challenged her to report to the police. Being challenged she duly made a police report the next day. Surprise of all surprises the police on duty told her immediately after the report was made that he actually knew the delivery boys and that if my friend insisted he could actually recover the stolen H/P but he cannot guarantee her safety. Can you imagine how shock my friend was? She was speechless for a while and when she regained her composure, she told the policeman, never mind and left it at that.

What can one conclude from the above rue story? The integrity of the police is in question? Instead of investigating the report, my friend was intimated with fear. Either the policeman is in cahoot with the criminal or just plain lazy. Can our police force be trusted? That is the question. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

If the police can act on mere hearsay only, why can't the police act if SJALERT forward what YOGI's has reported on the alleged crime for the police's attention. The reason why Yogi is reluctant to make a police report is obvious, he fears for his safety and who knows what connection these gangsters have. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Come on Police, let us not be selective but do your duty as protector of the rayat irrespective of who he or she is involved in.

Hi Tony

None of the Committee members of SJ Alert are from the Police Force, neither are we their spokesman.

However, from our contact with the Police, we understand that it is a SOP (standard operating procedure) that they will investigate when a report has been made.

Lets suppose they act without a complaint been made, do you not think that the so called aggressor might claim harassment by the Police?

It is therefore good that we continuously engage with the Police, interacting with them during Anti-Crime Campaigns launches, get-togethers and dialogues. It is at these events that you get to know who to turn to and what to do when you come across criminal activities.

We have never failed to invite everyone to such gatherings, but how many actually turn up? The saving grace is that it is never too late.

I am glad that some of the postings have arouse your almost anger, we have at least made you and hopefully in time to come, everyone aware that

Crime Prevention is a Joint responsibility

Police are LAZY....never trust them and don't even bother to make a police report unless you want to make a claim that need this police report. xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. You are the trouble to them to make the report and they will make you run around. (you need to go to 2 police station to make the report and then asking you to see the Chief Ins. that in charge your case)...wasting our time & money.

All i can say is we must be ALERT and help each others in any situation arise. Don't only Look See Look See, we need ACTION.

Action is the solution.

Dear Robert, Thank you for a;ll the discussion on this ;protection racket. Many claimed that they do not wish to lodge report as they fear their own safety. The right move is to contact the police and arrange for a speacial meeting where the police can plan what the next steps tgo be taken. According to Yogi this people come with revolvers tucked under their jackets that it is a very serious allegations. We do not know whether the guns are real or fake. But Yogi must had noticed the car registration no and the model as he may regconised the faces of the trio. The police will collect statements from Yogi and others and will be able to invoke prevention laws to investigate these allegations. I hope those who were approached by these trios please call Tuan Foo or DSP Lim (Meng Seah) KBSJD Subang Jaya at 019 912 0032. We should be brave enough to come forward to help the police to fight crime. The gangster can claim what they want but at the end of the day they will be scuttering to hide when they know the police is looking for them. Frederick K

Hi Tony Loh,

After reading your comments, I am wandering whether could it be possibly a case of the police in cohoort with the gangsters. I had read in the newspapers of criminal activities
happening nearby police stations. How is that ?

Anthony
