Hi just check if anyone played with Meccano construction sets as a kid? Do you still have your set? Probably collecting dust inside the storeroom? I'm looking for old Meccano sets preferably those bought in the 70's. If you want to get rid of it, please contact me:

Put your heading as "MECCANO" otherwise I'm afraid it might get swept up as spam.

Thank you.

My brother had a set back in the early 70's. I was quite young then and didn't really know how to play with it. The only thing I did was putting on wheels to a plate. I also loved to play with the screwdriver, nuts and bolts. I think my mother threw it away when we outgrew it.

They certainly don't make toys like they used to! It was real metal, with real nuts and bolts and real screwdrivers.....non of these modern day plastic stuff.

Sad to say, we lost most of our toys, books and photos in the floods. I remember my bro had a set too.

Have you tried ToysRus? They have a lot of interesting toys/games there.

Will keep a look out though at jumble sales and such.

These aren't the same. Now the modern Meccano (owned by Nikko) looks more toyish, only suitable for small kids. The old Meccano (pre 1980) was more like an engineering hobby but never a toy.

Well I wouldnt say I collect them. I don't even have a set right now. I did try to buy from ebay but the delivery charges .... AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!! Who'd pay RM400 for delivery of 1 set ?????? But then again they are not exactly light to begin with, y'know.

I used to know a guy that goes hunting around old chinese/malays kampongs in the Kedah/Upper Perak/Perlis State on every weekends looking for old stuff like toys, clocks, watches, gramophone, vinyl records ... etc.

He says half the fun is traveling, meeting people, discovering kampong that is not in the map and getting lost!
One trip with him is enough for me to think otherwise.

Yeah! I grew up with my bro's set but had since disappeared, the set.

Recently, I bought a small set for my daughter from big book store in taipan and had added another set from a book exhibition. :)
