Sep 17 is actually a holiday - Nuzul Al Quran. Did DSAI timed his moves just before a public holilday? hmmm....

As usual... holidays are welcome by any working people while it is something hate by employer or bosses as that would mean more cost for them to produce lesser income. :)

I believe the holiday is for next year? at least in Penang.

I like the idea tho...17 days of celebrations beginning August 31 and ending September 16.

Cheers, m

It would be a waste of public funds and Malaysians already enjoy enough medical leave and holidays...there are other effective ways to promote harmony with East Malaysia.

Its just one day, I think we can live with that.

if i am not mistaken, 16 Sept is a public holiday for sabah and sarawak...is like a celebration to celebrate sabah and sarawak joining malaysia..

furthermore, Kelantan just declared 16 Sept a public holiday... more info, please refer to The Star (http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/9/2/nation/20080902131749&sec=nation)

the idea of celebrating national day from 31st Aug till 16th Sept is good...

I will make sure my site have the flag and banner on until 16th Sept this year (the small thing that I have control with...)...

for the state holiday, is actually depend on company policy...

labour law only define 14 days (if I remember correctly) of public holiday as minimum for each company per year...

so there are some company actually will not follow the gov office's holiday calendar...

Dear all,

I want to put this record straight. Merdeka Day is 31 August 1957. Malaysia Day is 16 September 1963.

Both are important dates. So, I still am in the opinion that 16 September should be the main celebration as this is when MALAYSIA was formed between Peninsular states, Sabah and Sarawak. Sabah and Sarawak NEVER JOINED MALAYSIA. ALL FORMED MALAYSIA.

So until this is fixed, we will have animosity inclusive of the immigration issues. :D

Hari Merdeka (Hari Kebangsaan)/Merdeka (National) Day would precede the celebration and Hari Malaysia/Malaysia Day at the end of the celebration.

the whole 17 days do not have to be full of government celebrations. Invite the people to celebrate and take the time to explore the values that Malaysian uphold and carry with them.

Our politicians are fickle minded ppl and have several agendas, what's the purpose of finding solutions and giving opinions for them when they are still groping in the dark.

If we can solve these problems then we dont need elected "leaders" to solve them for us. That is what a true democracy really is - leadership by the people, not the politicians.

If we can solve the minor problems, then we can move on to the bigger problems.

Yes and hopefully our Malaysian citizens do not forget unlike some politicians saying that this remembrance may cause some misrepresentation...how can that be when it is a fact that Malaysia was formed on 16th September 1963?

Yes....we must remember both...Merdeka is 31 August. Malaysia Day is 16th September. :D
