Just to share my acupuncture experience. Was suffering from stressed Medial External Ligament problem for three months as a result of playing too much squash. Couldn't walk up or down a flight of stairs without feeling shooting pains on my ligament. Bottles of Feng Ku Shui didn't help..so did application of Voltaren and ingestion of declofenac tablets. Tried immobilisation of joint..temporary relief. Was told by my GP that the problem may take 6 months to recover at least. Meantime I was to avoid stressing the ligament (only way is by not walking, man!). Finally I decided to try the sinseh at PJ Old Town:

Wan Seng Acupuncture Centre,
No. 49 Jalan 6/31,
46000 Petaling Jaya,
Selangor.
Tel: 03-77820307.

(This is not a plug for the centre. It is located off Jln Gasing just beside the Tenaga Nasional building just after the round-about.)

Needles are inserted at key points and a mild electrical current is passed through each of the needles. There is a slight pain when needles are inserted but there is no blood issuing out from the points. You have to purchase your own set of needles (costs about RM25 for the set you use). Don't want to share with someone who has HIV. Sterilising pads of alcohol are also provided with the kit and you have to clean the needles before each visit. Depending on your own threshold of pain, you can adjust the level of electrical stimulation. I set mine at about 3/4 clockwise. Treatment lasts 20 minutes (it is timed). The electrical stimulation feels like a hundred tiny pin pricks at each area. At higher settings you can feel the muscles twitching violently. The assistant will clean the acupunctue points with alcohol pads after the treatment. They will then give you your needles in a plastic box. Don't share with others. After that, must pantang .. no fragrant rice, no curries, no fish head, no internal organs, no potatoes ..in my case anyway. Best times to go are weekdays. Saturdays are full.

Surprise! After the treatment the pain in my knee was gone! I could walk normally to my car without limping. Swelling was also gone! This morning I woke up with the pain completely gone and I could climb up and down the stairs with no discomfort or pain. It was a great relief after limping around for the last three months. It really works for me! Because of this I want to share this experience with forum members. I don't know if the acupuncture is effective for treating other ailments..but for my stressed ligament it was a magic cure. :)

No wonder that place is always packed with cars at the side of the road every evening. Is it expensive ?

You buy the set of needles during the first visit. After that it's RM10 per session. May need more sessions according to your ailment. My brother in law had an ankle problem and was limping worst than me. He had 3 treatments and is today walking around normally. He is one guy who will pooh pooh at such alternative medicines but he is convinced today. :)

It didnt' work for me. I went to that place to cure my back problem. After SO MANY trips, there was no improvement.

The doctor is also not very attentive, come in and prick needles for 1 min and then go off. Want to talk to him for more than 1 min also cannot.

I don't think he is a miracle doctor who can diagnose and prick within 1 min. Even renowned doctors cannot do that.

pucman, sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. As I have said, it may not work in every case. I don't know about the theory behind acupuncture therapy. In my case and my brother in law's it seems to work. Possibly you need to pantang .. no chillies, etc. But then I'm no expert on this.
