Hi friends, I am considering getting a new Nokia hp, either 6120 Classic or 3120 Classic. Was wondering if any of you got any contact or are in a position to buy Nokia handphone cheaper. Original lah, of course.

Btw, any advise on which would be a better buy?

Thanks.

If you have anyone who is flying to Dubai or Abu Dhabi... ask them to get the Nokia from there... a whole lot cheaper...

Also you can get Nokia and almost all other brands from UK, at about half the price compared to here ..

Anyone you know... also heading to UK?

*do note that it would be considered a grey import and will not enjoy the usual crap [ooops! I meant, cover] on manufacturers' guarantees...

3120 obsolete model lah. 6120 was released April last year..which I think is a current model. Nice entry level Symbian S60 3G phone. Would suit most basic purposes with 2mp camera, radio, and music player. Huge improvement from that dreadful 6600 (which was a BIG hit in 2003). The Sony Ericsson G502 would be Sony's rival to the 6120 at the same price bracket.
I bought my N82 phone from this fler. Best price, which no one else I could find offered a better deal. Sorry Patrick, but I can only afford the AP one..not ori but my phone is from Nokia S'pore Pte.Ltd, Ori S'pore model but imported into Malaysia, become AP model.

Prearrange and delivered to you at Subang!. COD of course.

Nokia N series are nice, but be forewarned of short standby battery life if using wifi, gps and 3g services. N series really suck on battery life and I wonder why Nokia still never really addressed this shortcoming.

I will check with my guy the prices of the models you have indicated ap or otherwise and will get back to you. Will be delivered to your door step if so required.

Suppose you have read all the specs and know what you want.

Don't believe the hype about GPRS, 3G or even 3.5G, it is still very expensive to surf the internet using your mobile phone in Malaysia and don't even think about using them whilst you are overseas (you will be shocked) - even retreiving your email whilst overseas would would cost you some. And for me GPS is completely nonsense.

Mobile Phone with Wi-Fi are all in the higher price bracket.

The phone camera is another thing altogether, the more the megapixel the more space you will require (you may even need to put out some more money to buy a bigger memory card) if the phone supports it that is.

If you have the moolah to splash let me know, I would dearly like to recommend the E71, which should also take care of your PDA needs.

A rule of thumb, if you buy a "cheap"er phone just get an ap model, if you are going for an expensive model get the ori one.

If you are el cheapo like me, a "pre-owned" phone would do just fine. Just change the original casing and you have a brand new phone. Most people don't even look inside their phone let alone look into yours.

Cheh!. SLEAZY place for those stuff. Macam macam ada!. I never trust that place ever again!. Other things ok lah!..not phones!.
Yep about 3G services.. Implemented in Malaysia to drain your wallet!.
Anyway, cellphones are certainly a part of our lives and almost everyone have one including kids.
Here's something most should basically know before shopping for a phone.

Sorry, actually I meant the 3120 Classic and also 6120 Classic. The 3120 is supposed to be the latest model, I was told! Maybe becos I didnt mention "Classic"? Actually, I can get the AP sets but just worried in case I need to download any software from Nokia etc etc. For the AP sets, I wont be able to access the Nokia software etc.
But I was told the 6120 is better becos it runs on Symbian. Does it make that much of difference?

Thanks Rob. Actually, the models should be read with the suffix "Classic". And yes, I agree with you on the other details. Both the models dont have GPS or wifi. But 3G yes. Useful just in case I need to send MMS. The camera is just 2mb. Good enough for emergency use. Still prefer my digital cameras.

E71? Ok..let me check it out. Thanks a bunch!

Yes, you'll be able to access Nokia software, firmware upgrade or any other compatible ware for phone. Nokia website doesn't differentiate AP or Ori phones. Millions of local AP phone users aren't complaining including me. Its just the difference of local service center support and less warranty terms. Symbian is already popular and allow more variety of features and any compatible programs for personal customization compared to the basic phone. Can't describe everything in one paragraphg but you can google for more info. BTW, don't compare phone cam with real digicam. Phone camera lens size and flash are nearly always a compromise. (although my N82 camera with xenon flash does come close.) OK lah..its up to you to decide. Good luck!.

Thanks BS. Always thought one can access the Nokia software etc only if we buy the ori sets!! Thks for correcting me. That being the case, then I will probably go for the AP sets. The 6120 difference is about rm200!

Yes, I know it is the Classic model. I actually have the a Nokia 3120 & a Nokia 3100 that I still use as my spare phones.

If you are really deciding on the 2 models, may I suggest that you get the 6120 just because it runs on Symbian S60. The 3120 is a Series 40 phone. The reason being, that there are more software out there for the S60 phones.

I will come back with the price as soon as I can.

By the way, what software are you thinking of updating? You can download Nokia Software even if you do not have a Mobile Phone.

It is only when you want to update the actual phone software to a newer version and for that you would need a computer running the Nokia PC Suite with the Nokia Software Updater installed, which is another story for another day.

Patrick,
I had just seen the Nokia 3120 Classic and I can say it is good looking "mid-level" phone. 16 million colours in a 2-inch screen means very clear graphics. Haven't really tried it out but looks impressive enough for me. If you are into using the internet, it has 3G as well. It has radio and does MP3, MP4 as well.

Battery listed as 12 days standby. For a minimal user, it can mean you only need to charge it every 5 days. Single earphone - actually I dislike dual ear-pods because there are too many things hanging off my neck then. Oh, I think it is also bluetooth enabled.

I was quoted a price less than RM800 but it does not come with the USB cable. If you think that is a good price, I can introduce you to my friend - he says it is original and legal Malaysian import, not submarined.

Sorry, haven't seen 6120, so cannot compare specs.... a quick check on the website specs tell me that the 3120 have a better battery ie 1000mAh compared to 890mAh for the 6120. The 6120 has HSDPA (3.5G) but if you don't plan to surf the net, it isn't going to make any difference. By the way, the 3120 is supposed to have Opera mini browser installed - which I heard gives you real webpage sizing on-screen. If I am not mistaken, the 6120 has a data-cable but not the 3120 - important to sync the phone to your PC. The 6120 can only take up to 2GB MicroSD and the 3120 takes up to 4GB MicroSD (newer phone perhaps?)... Hope these specs help your decision.

Just a general comment. Actually I've found Sony Ericsson PC Suite more responsive and friendlier when interfacing with the PC. As much as I like my N82 for its unbeatable features at its price bracket, I wish Sony Ericsson had a direct competitor to it but seems none todate. I see all Nokia's having only ONE great advantage as its still unbeatable in its keyboard SMS interface performance. Other than that, I would plonk my money on a SE anytime, especially for sound quality in its music department...Walkman technology?...even the ringtones sound more pleasant than any Nokia.

Ok..share with you all an idea!.
Buy a USB "thumbdrive like" card reader. Slot in your "unused or redundant" MicroSD and VOILA!..its a THUMBDRIVE to store your sordid pics..if any!!
I'm sure these card readers are easily available in the IT market.

Use to have so many MMC/MiniMMC/SD/MiniSD lying around from all the mobile phones and cameras that it was just obscene and wasteful.

I started giving them away so that they can be put to better use by others.

Anyway, they are so common nowadays and cheap too.
