I think what you need is a HEPA air filter.

You can check out this air filter specialist shop in SS2 as below :-

AAQ House of Air Cleaners

11 Jalan SS 2/55

Petaling Jaya

Tel 603 7877 5034

Unfortunately, their recent promotion is already over, but you can still click on their promotion flyer here, for brands, models and price reference.

I was told that Sharp are pioneers in this field. My brother has bought Panasonic (noisy), Sharp and Amway (expensive) units and he finds that Sharp is still the best. In fact, I have just help him to buy another unit of Sharp FU440E, during the last promotion. You can also try to talk to the people in AAQ for their recommendations, based on your requirement and room size.

Anyway, AAQ keep some stocks in several JUSCO store. With JUSCO Mid-Valley member's day coming on 24/07/08, you may want to check out there and take advantage of the promotion then for the purchase, i.e. RM10 vouchers for every RM100 spend, plus any other discounts.

Thanks.

Just call them and bug them for a special... me think they might just do that...

My kid's room uses Hep'aire... and it does wonders...[Used at nights only] No more wheezing and sneezing and whatnots... when they wake up in the mornings...

Ps: The Hep'aire units oso got ioniser function... :) and when used on low/med speed, it is hardly audible

How can one escape from inhaling dust and pollution. Dust and the impurities in the air outside the house is more lethal anytime.
I say these dust busters are not effective at all its just another gimmick, Maybe wearing a mask might help.

My brother's baby child (less than one years old) had problem sleeping at night because the baby's nose was always blocked by mucus. On recommendation by his doctor, he bought one unit of Sharp HEPA filter and the problem was solved!

He then bought a Amway unit which cost more than 3K, but this unit is large and not portable. Although the specs. is much higher, there is no noticable difference and therefore not worth the additional cost.

He also bought a Panasonic unit, but found it to be too noisy. That was the reason why he asked me to help him to buy another Sharp unit recently.

Why, you might ask, does he need so many units? He works in Brunei and he kept the first Sharp unit in his apartment there. The Amway unit is in his house in Miri and the Panasonic unit (now replaced by Sharp) is kept in the in-law's place, for use when his family sleep there. If he is willing to spend so much just for the filter, you bet it must have been very effective. When the baby can't sleep, the parents also don't sleep!!

I help my bro to buy the Sharp FU440E at RM1090 during the promotion which just ended. There are also smaller models which are cheaper. Check with AAQ.

There was a previous thread on this topic. I have recommended the use of a water type air cleaner. It works very well and you need only to change the solution when it gets cloudy. Also if the motor starts making some noise a few squirts of WD-40 solves the problem. I have a sinus and asthmatic problem too. I use this air cleaner during the haze and also daily in my house, car and office. There are several brands costing about RM138. Water based cleaners are better as they do not get clogged up like ionizers. The needle or blade like points of the ionizers can get coated with carbonised material and eventually are useless or you need to clean them constantly. I bought some of these over the years and gave up on them. The water based types suck in air and clean the air using a cleaning solution dissolved in the water. At the same time you get the benefit of aromatherapy. The car version costs about RM48. I use two brands: Isukoshi and a cheaper A' Fresh Revitalisor. Jaya Jusco, HSL and medisense pharmacy branches sell them. The earliest version of this was a Japanese brand which was quite costly. The cheaper brands are just as good.

Sorry, I have no experience with the Medklinn unit.

But from what I know, the Medklinn unit is just an ionizer. There is no active air filtration. That is why it is maintenence free (no filter element to change).

OTOH, Sharp unit is an air purifier. It comes with HEPA filter and also have ionizer function. Some models also have humidifying function.

You can click on the following links for more info : -

As for water-type air cleaner mentioned by besitai2007, whether or not it is as effective as a HEPA filter in removing "at least 99.97% of 0.3-micrometer particles" needs to be looked at. Is there any specification available for the water-type air cleaner?

you'd be suprised to know that the air in the house can potentially be equally dangerous if not circulated... you can also have chemicals and other harmful gases emitted by other sources within the house... ie solvents and whatnots..
