Finally, after all these years and numerous honours, she has received what is rightfully hers. Her father should be next.

Congrats Nicol. :)

Nicol definitely worth the Datuk...

But does our fellow (esp BN) MPs in the parliment worth for the Datuk when they are talking about ladies having period...... see snakes and idian then should first beat the indians.... showing some rude fingers and attitude... shouting in the partliment.....

I think its a whole lot shame when we are calling them Datuk, Datuk Seri, Yg Berhormat....

Anybody knows why Lim Guan Eng and his 2 deputies did not get any datukship? Personally declined? This is not to start a political debate. Just curious.

I reckon its a matter of personal pride and one doesn't NEED to swank around being a Datuk for prestige or image. Its quality achievments that count...not the prestige of being a D. That goes for the others in the same jing bang. We all silently know who lives up deserving the title, and who doesn't.

Yes, the way they hand out datukships nowadays, I think it has lost a lot of its prestige.
The thing that struck me about Nicol was how humble she was about the award. I have always thought that a datukship is equivalent to knighthood or title "Dame" in british terms. I don't think Nicol would become a Dame (if she was british), for being just dominant in squash. They are usually reserved for much older people with spectacular achievements / contributions. Thery would probably wait till she is around 50 or so.

In UK, outstanding patriotism, remarkable achievements to the realm and country would be nominated for knighthood, like Dame Sarah Brightman, Vera Lynn (WWII arm forces sweetheart), Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex F, and many other sports personalities. Here its dished out too generously. I think I don't have to say more. Nicol have fulfilled more than any other sports personality in Malaysian sporting history and its only the beginning. Yes, she deserved truly deserves the award.
