No service since this morning. Called up Astro on the problem and was told that the technical people would revert within 4 hours. Half hour later a girl called and told me to go through the steps infront of the TV. There wasn't any transmission signal. The problem of no service still persisted. Was told that a technician will attend and I've to fork up RM50. Questioned why I have to pay RM50 when there's problem with the service. She said it has to do with the set. Told her that I didn't choose to own the set and wanted to speak to someone higher up. She said no way.

Anyone coming across similar problem like mine? Appreciate your help to overcome this problem without having to fork out RM50. Thanks! :confused:

Probably the decoder is faulty. Perhaps bring over to neighbor/friend's place and hook it up to see if it works, if doesn't, personally send to Philips for service at Crystal Plaza PJ. (opposite Armada Hotel).

Hey, mine astro also experiencing the same problem since 2 nights ago. Still no sight of the astro guy coming. But i was also tole to fork out rm50. How ah?

Maybe..but would you deny any serviceman transport charges to find and come to your home for free?. Blooming 3rd party plumber or electrician won't do it for free.
OTH, we should expect some form of free services from Astro which we're paying high subscription..at least 2-3 free annual services?. (genuine fault reports).

Similar problem a year ago, so piss off and I cancelled it. So now I am watching free TV....RTM1,2, NTV7, TV8 & 9. Live happily ever after.

Moral of the story.....not happy with it? Just cancel it. End of story.

bslee, ask for a reference number from the person you spoke to. Should she refuse, call the technical line at 603 9543 4129. It will cost you money to call that line but you'll get an answer that because i managed to get my answer there.

If they put you on a wild goose chase, tell them you would like to terminate your subscription with them. They'll scurry to your request immediately. If they really do terminate it then say thank you and be glad that you are saving 100 dollars a month.

Nevertheless, good luck on your try there. Sometimes, i wonder why is it that the customer service from company to company vary so very much.

with the new 'gold' smart card, everytime I switch off the astro and switch it on, I've to wait 15mins before I can get a signal and able to watch the shows. never had this with the old card. anyone facing the same problem? I've cut my 2nd decoder. If they piss me off, I'll cut the main one and watch free TV.

Did you follow the instructions to "initialize it? or just slotted it in and expect it to work?.
I think your problem is a cause for complaint. Their support should be able to guide you with step by step instructions..if not they've to change the card. I think I read somewhere there's been cases of the "f-ed" up card.
BTW, I heard..I SAY AGAIN, I heard.. Some Olympic 2008 telecasts may be broadcast in HD. Those with HDTV ready screens..do tell ya!..

Astro must be fair to all its subscribers. Every time there is a problem, they will refer us to their authorised technicians who will charge Rm 50.00 for each visit irrespective even if its the fault of Astro. This is grossly unfair and very irresponsible of Astro. Even before the installation of the new smartcard, there have been many instances of Astro cutting off momentarily while viewing and it seems to be a nationwide problem. My friends all experience the same thing.
All the Astro receptionist are not helpful and rude, every time jumping to conclusion that the customer's equipment is always at fault.
Every one seems to be getting fed up of Astros attitude and arrogance.
They better buck up before more people boycott astro.

The only way of solving these types of behaviours is to open up for competition.

Just got a call from my dad. The astro guy came to fix....and the ic board not working well. Total cost rm 126. Too bad have to pay......

what for pay..there is another solution.

cancel your current subscription... and then go to giant ..there is always promotion if you purchase above a certain amount, you will get astro for free...even installation also free... your advantage, new astro set, new dish, and one more year of warranty... :D :D

disadvantage.. have to bear without astro for a few days lorr

I am have the same problem too eversince changing from the old smart card to the new one, but I usually get reception after 2-3mins. I called the customer service people and they told me call them before I on the set. I did and guess what, put me through the same nonsense of "go to menu" and blah blah blah, in the end, told me that I have the option of having their techinicians to come have a look. Saying the problem lies with the positioning of the sat dish. How lah. All the while ok, now change the card suddenly the sat dish need adjusting pulak.
I told them, I will only take that option if Astro foots any charges, since it's their changing of cards that brought this about. They say no, so I say no too.
So nowadays, I switch on the set, go make my coffee and wallah 3 mins later can watch.
Hoping I dont have to wait 15mins ;)

Wah what a co-incidence... My dad told me the ic mainboard they change does look new. Looks like a re-con one. And only gave my dad a 3 months warranty.

Hi,

I would like to know if the Astro promotion still on where when we buy things from GIANTS (Subang) for certain amount we can get free Astro. I'm planning to move out from my current place by this Saturday and if the promotion is much cheaper than asking my Astro guy to move current Astro to my new house, might as well I take the promotion and can get a new decorder (& new account). Appreciate your kind advise.

funny, i just started having problems with my Astro 1-2 days ago....going blank every 10 mins... have to switch between channels and back...
