Dear All,

I was just wondering if there is any health products or beverages for toddler age 2-3. My toddler aged 2 1/2 is always sick. This week flu next week vomitting. After that he will be well for 1 mth...later sick again. He is always having running nose. I really dont know what to feed him anymore. I have try cod liver oil, condition is slightly better.

If there is any suggestion or idea please feel free to share. Also please share the brand of milk too.

Thank you

Okay, I used to cry myself silly when my eldest girl was a toddler coz she just would not eat...eat , vomit, eat , vomit....this continued till she was about six then everything suddenly became hunky dory - no p more problems with eating. I used to follow Dr. Benjamin Spock's book religiously and how I wished I hadn't. Now she is a teenager looking for ways to lose weight! For my second child I threw his book away and did what my Mom did for us and there was no feeding problems at all.

Guess what I am saying is that just let your baby eat what he/she likes. If she does not want milk just feed her yoghurt any variety. Breakfast you can start off with half boiled egg - start with one spoonful and then gradually increase, half a cup of any porridge etc and etc. Lunch could even be a banana or any fruit. You don't need special health products just give them a variety of good wholesome food.

As for the flu and such, they will build up their immune system if you don't arrest the process by giving them antibiotics. Only give them cough syrup if it disturbs their sleep else let it run its course. Just speaking from experience.

My toddler is okay in eating ..he eats his vege and drinks his milk. But he has such a weak immune system that he catches virus very easily. Further more since i started him on kindergarden he is always sick. Is there any way to increase his immune system?

my baby too was always sick, he was admitted into hospital twice for high fever. Very strange, it seems like he is allergic to orange and pomelo. Everytime he ate them he gets fever and vomit. However orange juice is okay for him.

Recently I let him take scotts emulsion orange flavour he refused to take the plain one. I also gave him those children vitamins, he treat it as sweets. He also takes lots of sun sweet prune juice, calci-yum yughurt and also vitagen. He seems to be healthier these days.

Possible to change his kindy?

Hate to ask & it is too late but how long you breast feed him?

Since you say cod liver oil is better even if it is slightly.
And his eating is no problem
then that should be continue for his future.

BTW I am no expert on child care but has raised 3 kids thru vomit, fever, falls, cuts, one eating his own poo ... etc and allergies.

You sent your kid for medical checkup?
Is he at correct growth rate?

What umadavid pointed out is very true for me.
First kid worry like mad at the slightest problems.
Every thing must be super clean.
No hawker food.
Bring own chair to restaurant.
Follow all parental book we can lay our hands on.
Join UPHA club for health supplements.

When second one come we throw all that away and follow our paternal and maternal instinct.

Don't want to sound like I am promoting a particular product but my three kids took some direct selling product which seriously help to strengthen their immune system. Although they still get sick, their recovery is very fast.

Warning : The stuff is quite expensive and we only use it for the kids. PM me if you want to know what my kids are taking.

Gee...I am really sounding as if I am trying to sell some stuff here AND I reiterate I am not.

My friend's son was like that. Until someone recommended for him to take Kiddy Pharmaton multivitamin (syrup). And he actually improved. My son was also heading towards falling sick often and I also started feeding him the multi-vit. Now he doesn't fall sick often unless the virus is spreading around at his babysitter's place.

If your son is always having running nose, maybe you should check to find out if it's allergies. That could be a possibility.

My son is also like that. Not because of weak immune system but acid reflux. Sigh. Normally they will outgrow it, in the case which happens to your daughter. I'm waiting for my son to outgrow that too. Now I have to keep telling him to try to control his vomit but it's tough. Each time he cries or chokes or cough, we have to be alert in case his food all comes out.

Scott's Emulsion (http://www.gsk.com/products/consumer_healthcare/dw_scotsemulsion.htm) is suppose to be good at toughing up your kid's immune system.

My 1 year old is already taking it.

Good luck!

In fact, I just bought Pharmaton Kiddi syrup yesterday. But late in the evening I noticed that it contains preservatives in the form 0.15% sodium benzoate & 0.15% potassium sorbate 0.15%. Are these preservatives safe? Coincidentally, if it's not, I have been considering of exchanging it for Scott's.

most of the multi vitamins in pharmacies contain a lot of synthetic ingredients, which evidently is harmful for kids.

go for 100% natural ingredients. read the labels.

all the best!

See...I just don't understand the argument about synthetic vs. "natural" ingredients.

Aren't everything is this world made of chemicals? Some chemicals are harmful and some are not.

Are tobacco less harmful than M&Ms chocolate?

synthetic means they are made in the lab. molecularly, synthetic and natural ingredients are the same. however, when light is shine through, the refraction angles differs.

thus, look the same, but not the same. (from my little knowledge)

as to tobacco and MM...tobacco on its own its not good for the body, natural or synthetic...MM definitely not good. high in calories and low in nutrient - ie junk food

most of the food out there are 'dead food'. meaning, manufactured for the flavour but low in nutrients, cos it sells. so the best is live food. fresh and natural food.

the book 'Wellness Revolution' by paul zane pilzer sheds light on this. good book to read if you are into healthy eating.

So maybe synthetic nicotine is good for you as the article below suggest but tobacco in it's "natural" form is bad.

Smoking is bad for you. We know that, it kills million however a smoking fact that is true and backed up by medical research is that nicotine in its pure form is safe, non toxic, part of the natural food chain and is good for you.

In any case, I'll probably check out the book you recommended. :)

Had the same problem when my Kids around that age .... :D .... get worst when they starts kindergarten or play school or a nanny with many kids.... exposure... nothing much u can do...just give them a nutrious meal... take an apple and a spoon.... scrap it and feed them everyday, if they dont like orange juice (fresh?). Slowly they will build resistant...

There are certain liquid enzyme sold by MLM that cost few hundred RM a pack... do work.. just 2 spoonful a day mix with a bit water (or not)... in the morning when they wake up...Can last a month plus. Its either that or Dr's bill :)

Thats the point , i just managed to breast fed him for the 2 months. He didnt wanted it after.

Anyway he is correct at his growth rate, just immune system is very weak. Maybe some children are like this. I will continue the scott emulision. Thanks very much for advise.

Have his emotions and behavior been manageable?

Hmmm...he is kinda cranky at times. He is not talkative at all. Does this means anything? He can understand what i say of course. Just he is a quiet person.

Thanks very much for yor advise and concern. I think maybe i am very worried about him. Of course if there is anyway to make him healthier is better and i will try but is true what you mean is part of life. Just if i can come of anyway to make his immune system stronger i will try. Cause seeing him always sick like this doenst seems right. Is not easy taking care of sick child. And when you see him coughing so badly is also heart breaking. Thanks for the advise.

Different kids have different immunity level. I have three - from one that hardly gets sick to one that is always coughing and sniffing and vomitting at the slightest reason.

Noni juice helps as they are high in anti-oxidants and will boost immunity. There are lots of brands in the market - from retail to direct selling. Most of them have a grape juice flavoring. Will stop here lest I start advertising.

My kids sleep in an air conditioned room which I feel is bad for my youngest because she kicks off her blankets all the time. I've started to make sure her chest is covered with two layers of clothing (T shirt over her nighties) and it does help.

I also learnt this from the chinese herb shop: If there's phlegm, abstain from eating chicken and eggs for a few days. Trust me - it helps.

This is really good advise/idea. He does sleep in air conditioned room. The doc say no air cond....but its really hot at night and he will start to sweat after i need to change his clothes...so i switch on the aircond for first one hour then later switch it off... He does have phlegm and it never cross my mind to stop giving him chicken meat or eggs. Thanks for the reminder....As for the noni juice i will try since i know there is a lot of brands in the market...Btw is true my first son doenst get sick this often is just the second son now....
