I was using a Zyxel modem with router for the last year and my speed was relatively good. Video streaming and all no problem. Then it got hit by lightning last week.
Temporarily I used my Aztech (Streamyx) modem and speed was ok too.
2 days ago I purchased a new DLink with router and hooked up. Now my speed is real slow. I called TMNet and they have 're-ping', still no help.
Checked online and most people are happy with this modem, so was wondering if something wrong with mine?
Coincidently, I changed my virus protection to Kaspersky with Internet protection, don't know if that affects or not.
Can anyone help....where is the problem and how do I fix it?
Also wondering if it so happens that Streamyx is slow last few days and that's the cause?

do you have new neigbours shifting in ? if one of those heavy online gamer or downloaded shift into your neigbourhood, internet can become slower

Few months back, I had a similar problem when my speed became extremely slow..at first, I thought nothing of it but it became really bad. I called TM net several times and each time they checked and did the "whatever' and yet nothing changed. Finally Went to a computer shop and told them my problem and they said it could be infected by virus. So, took my comp. to the store, they checked it out and true enough, it was infected by virus. So, they had to reboot my computer.
I was using Kaspersky with internet protection as well. And frankly, I do not like it..Everyone keeps saying that it's one of the best around but I find that it somehow or other slows things down as well. I forgot what the guy from the computer store mentioned about kaspersky and why it somehow slows down the computer. Anyway, my kaspersky somehow crashed a month later due to another virus and I have now changed my protection to Bitdefender. And so far so good.
yep, virus could be another culprit. I am using avast antivirus ( home edition ) ... it is quite good and its free.

I don't know of any new people in the neighbourhood, who may be sapping the bandwidth. Unless it's up the road. I removed Kaspersky as well. I too didn't like it. Looks like I just blew 100 bucks. Thought I was buying the 'best'. HaHa.
I've switched back to AntiVir and I use SpyBot as spyware. Speed very much faster, but regretfully not like it was last week.
Have called TMNet twice. The 2nd time, the girl was quite helpful. She tried to figure out why its slow. She ran through their speed test with me and all look ok, based on their 'best effort' of course.
I'll wait for a few days and see, I notice this sort of thing happens often with Streamyx. There are times my friends call and tell me their connection slow, but mine is speeding away.
Worst case, reformat and see what happens.
