I think KWChang should have new forum membership subjected to approval hereon. I'm certainly not in favor of malicious cybertroopers, infantiles and juveniles lurking in this forum. Many Yahoo groups insist on membership approval.

Good idea ... but how to check on new subscribers? would appreciate workable solutions. Anyone can come on as goody-goody and metamorphose later to the devil within. Even job interviews cannot filter types of personalities effectively, much less a virtual environment.

Perhaps the better solution is to impose a 2nd level of banana plantation where problematic members gets ejected after building a bad record online. However, I'm a poor judge of character ... so how?

are you saying that anyone who critisize YB Jeff is branded as a cybertrooper ? In this case, I would rather be a cybertrooper than a "yes man". Just because we voted for opposition, it does not mean we wont critisize the opposition and we will support everything they do blindly.... else we will create another BN.

How YB Jeff response to the comments it is up to him... it will either earn him more votes or lose more votes.

Dear KWchang, when you mentioned you are a "poor judge of character" does it applies to everyone, ones you know personally and those you have never met but writes into the forum :)
So far, you are doing a great job as a moderator, making sure the debate is civil and not racially based, which would cause national unrest .
You give us all fair warnings and allow us to defend our case before proceeding with a banana and a ban.

You don't have to stress yourself figuring out who is a cyber trooper, a juvenile or a delinquent . The readers can judge for themselves.

p/s Just a suggestion. You might want to consider that we all register and we all place our actual photos on the avatar. :cool:

I think it's a bit hard to impose the need of having to submit infos of Mykad (Data Privacy Act) but it's a good idea to make new applicant to read and accept T & C which should include disclaimer by Moderator from any responsibility/laibility of members' statment or even to include indemnity clause whereby members undertake to indemnify moderator from any costs/damages suffered/incurred as a result of members' act before proceeding to allow thier participation in this forum...

I agree. I have no problems with the current setup (but of course, I am not a moderator). That's what openness is. I don't think we should brand everyone as a cybertrooper just because they don't follow the majority here.

Asking for mykad number et al goes against the grain of the foundation that this forum is built on. So far, we have proven to be a very responsible community (hiccups now and then accepted) even when when posting in cognito.

But if you think they are cybertroopers, then be wise and not fall into their trap. Discern first before reacting.

When ISA was introduced, it was said it's objective was very clear, so .......it's what it is today.( Note ......means it's your own personal opinion of course whether you are for the ISA or not.)
So what is construed as mischief better be very, very clear or it may lead to misinterpretation .
The banana plantation might become a cyber Kem Kamunting. :D

Nah, you ain't blacklisted . KWChang and BSLee are formulating a national security checkpoint to ensure no one with any bad intent or mischief will threathen our national security by inciting racial and religious propaganda or the forum's security. Also, to ensure everyone behave in a civil manner towards each other.

If USJ forum wanna to be successful with active participations. It must be opens to ideas of all kind. Views and criticisms must be allowed.

This is especially true for blogs. Failing which visitors will leave as their voices are not heard and your forum dies of natural death.

Even now USJ is extremely slow. No wonder JO couldn't even be bother.

It is good to get some opinions once in awhile.
That was why I pulled this piece out, partly to dissociate with the other topic and partly to instigate your views.

You see, I actually do not subscribe to the labelling of members as cyber-troopers ... hence those of you who were vocal have little to worry about. My role as the moderator here is just to keep the peace, not to judge. It is easy to make judgement on other members' character and I see s number of people doing just that. I had also received 'advice' many times in the past with regards opinions of judgement. Fortunately for some of you, I had stuck to my non-judgemental opinion. That is why some of the more vocal people still remain till now.

However, do take note that I do not allow for absolute freedom. My job here is to police the forum, hence with rules to follow, how can we have absolute freedom?

As for Gina's comments, I go with her opinion 100%, partly because she was one of the founding members of this Forum but mainly because she is one of the few people with a level head and see through all your veils and disguises :D

This thread itself is part of our education for uses of the Internet, one of the agendas of our Forum, if you are unaware ;)

me thinks that putting up real names or real photos are going abit on the extreme side. Personal privacy in a forum is needed for security reasons. Of course this also gives way for abuses sometimes but again, that is why there are admins and mods to moderatoe the forum. :D

Though I have just joined this forum...I think you are doing a good job as moderator compared to some other wishi woshi forums.. since we are all adults we should exercise self-control and be responsible of our own stmt...cant just dpd on u policing everyone...ya better work out some mechanism to ban/bar those hardcore offenders from accessing into this forum...

P.S. Whether I like it or not, I still have to comply giving my personal details and handing over IC or D/licence when I wanna visit my friend at gated home estates..if I don't comply, they outrightly refuse my entry...so?. I can go make police report if I'm not happy with their entry policies.... which can be interpreted as ALL VISITORS to that location are POTENTIAL thieves, robbers, troublemakers, undesirables... so?

Its better to close down this forum for a period..its not justifying its purpose of being a community forum of late anymore, its has been misused and abused for self interests by some persistent forummers.
