To donate directly to a Chinese Non-profit, a good choice is JetLi’s One Foundation. Jet Li is an ambassador for the Red Cross Societyof China. His fund, as of 4/15/2008, has raised RMB 10,677,267($6,590/RMB 46,130 from Paypal donations)
http://www.one-foundation.com/html/cn/beneficence_01.htm
Click on the “paypal” button
The site is in Chinese only, but I have read it. One key point to know about your donation there:
1. The FULL amount of your donation will be transferred to the Red Cross Society of China.
The website provides full transparency on how its funds are distributed.
http://www.one-foundation.com/html/02/n-102.html
I Googled the foundation and found quite a bit of press coverage, so I felt comfortable posting it as a donation destination.

FINALLY! You can now donate directly to the American Red Cross ChinaRelief fund. The link is provided below, before you donate, please readthe paragraphs regarding fund use:
https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?idb=252516977&df_id=3198&3198.donation=form1
Additional information regarding relief efforts by the American Red Cross is provided here
http://www.redcross.org/news/in/ ... hinaEarthquake.html
A recent post in this group mentions the possibility that donationsto the American Red Cross does not fully transfer over to the Red CrossSociety of China. I am attempting to reach the local director of theRed Cross in my area for a clarification on the exact use of fund foreveryone, but probably won’t get an answer until tomorrow afternoon.
If anyone has any clarification on the matter please let everyone know ASAP.
All this being said, ARC does have a four star rating from Charity Navigator for its effective use of donations.http://www.charitynavigator.org/ ... catid/2/cpid/43.htm
And your donation will be used specifically for the Chinese Relief effort.
However, your donation maybe be put to best use by directly wiringmoney to the Red Cross Society of China (listed in the CHINA section)or through Jet Li’s One Foundation (listed in the INTERNATIONALsection) rather than the American Red Cross.
More updates to come.

Quake-hit Sichuan sees a flood of volunteers
(Agencies)
Updated: 2008-05-18 15:41

DUJIANGYAN - The hairdryers, brushes and shampoo Lang Guanghong unloads from the back of his van each morning aren't standard disaster relief tools.

The 22-year old hair stylist wanted to help when his hometown was hit by China's deadliest earthquake in decades, which officials say may have killed 50,000 people. But relief teams were calling for help from experts only.

So Lang thought of a way to put his skills to use.

"The weather is hot and volunteers' hair is often quite long, so it is inconvenient," he said in Dujiangyan, a mid-sized city in Sichuan where collapsed buildings now line the main streets.

"We give them free haircuts to make their work easier, and also help people from town who want their hair cut."

The disaster has prompted an unprecedented outpouring of public support from across China that has helped feed and clothe people in badly-hit but accessible areas.

Taxi drivers queued for hours to ferry victims to hospital, a senior executive trekked into a stricken town with a satellite phone, and thousands of individuals stuffed food and water into their cars and drove towards disaster zones.

Officials coordinating relief efforts say they are so overwhelmed with help they need only experts with special skills.

They are racing against time to find survivors still trapped in rubble, and open roads so that exhausted refugees from flattened villages can trek out to tent camps in the larger towns.

"The main volunteers that we need at the moment are experts in search and rescue, people with medical skills and psychology training," said a government note to would-be volunteers that asked others to go home and donate money or goods instead.

The enthusiastic but inexperienced volunteers who hurried to Sichuan after watching the tragedy unfold on television are creating some impatience among locals eager to pick up the pieces of their own lives.

Chen Lu, an office worker staffing Dujiangyan's volunteer centre desk who lost family in the quake, said she signed up because she didn't want to just sit in her tent and grieve.

"Everybody is doing their best to help those who lived move on. We don't want to just sit around and do nothing while our city has all these problems. We know best what we need."

Money has been flooding in to support disaster relief from across China, sometimes from novel sources.

In the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang, a couple cut lobster off their wedding menu on Sunday and were planning to send the 4000 yuan ($572.20) in savings to the quake-hit area, state news agency Xinhua reported.

"We're just eating one less lobster, but we'll be able to provide one month's ration for a refugee," the bride said. "This kind of conversion, I think, has deep significance."

Don't lah flood us with all this irrelevant banking information. Just advise them to deal with our local centre for collection in this case Sin Chew Jit Pao which is at Jalan Universiti next to the good old days famous Rothman Roundabout if the donor wants to personally hand over his/her contribution. Or else just bank in straight to their relief fund account mention in their newspaper. Simple as that.

SEE After the earthquake: Shanxi coal bosses how to contributeerr.. my apologies but I do not have good feelings towards these Coal bosses.
Most of my company's workers do not have any thing nice to say about these Coal bosses also.
Yup you are right they sure contribute to human disaster in China on a yearly basis.
In 2006 alone, 4,749 Chinese coal miners were killed in thousands of blasts, floods, and other accidents.

Thanks for copying the other 'real' pix on human suffering.

bzjude - donating thru a local well known is better than some foreign body.
At least you get to kow peh kow boh directly when there is any hanky panky.
I followed this man's advice

Yayasan Sin Chew
Established in 2001, it is the official charity arm of Sin Chew Daily. It provides a reliable and transparent channel for donors to contribute towards the needy regardless of age, race, creed or religion. Projects include Rumah Charis, Project Love, WeCare Sponsor-A-Child, Cambodia Education Project, Society of the Interpreters For The Deaf and bursaries for poor students.

You can call them now, they are open on sat. I just call them.

Disclaimer: No, I do not work for Sin Chew and bulk of my company's donation for this disaster go to this Sin Chew even though we have factory in China.
