This game is called politics, you will try everything to survive. How Samy Vellu changed his tune. But in all regards the Hindraf 5 should be released, if Samy with his new found 'powers' can help in their release, then so be it.

Probly the govt sees that keeping the Hindraf 5 will do even more damage to themselves and is under pressure to release them anytime soon. Semi Value would have got the whiff of this news and jumped the band wagon in order to look like he intervened for their release. Free mileage lah. Smart politics I say! :p :D

The voters have. Only he tak malu and hanging around.

No matter what he does now, he has lost his credibility. he should have done this before instead of accusing them as terrorist without basis.

MIC said : " We will sink & swim with BN "

Sami said : " Please release them and let them go "

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar : " We will continue placing the five Hindraf leaders under ISA despite the call from MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu to release them "

M. Manoharan's wife denied seeing Samy. According to Pushpa, if she had needed any help, she'd have gone to Karpal instead. OTOH, R. Kenghadaran's wife admits to meeting Samy and asking for help right in the early days .. of which I think many of us remember SV's subsequent references to Hindraf in the days until March 8.

Umno vice-president Mohd Ali Rustam told MIC President Samy Vellu :-

# Donít use Hindraf 5 issue as a publicity stunt for your own political interest

# Donít use the issue for publicity simply because of wanting to get support during the coming MIC general assembly

# Prevention is better than cure

This kind of statement means ANY issue brought up can be deemed as a stunt and for own interest..period. Any talk that displeases them is seen as contempt. Like that, they do as THEY see fit, no need for opinions or consultation. That's Ketuanan for everyone!. Now you see why they insist more than 2/3 marority? Malaysia Boleh!.

Uthayakumar does not need freedom initiated by Samy Velu
Samy Velu should apologize first

The recent statement by Dato Seri Samy Velu that he would urge the Prime Minister to release the 5 HINDRAF leaders is most appalling. He was part of the system that incarcerated those "messengers of truth" and suppressed the legitimate voice of Democracy.

Whilst the Prime Minister was a "gentleman" in accepting his errors and pledging to rectify his mistakes, Samy Velu is playing politics by his regular antics now, seeking the release of the 5.

He should first of all apologize to the 5 families and the Malaysian Indians for the following reasons:

failure to oppose the arrest by Government openly on 13th December 2007
misleading the Government and public that HINDRAF is a threat to National Security and linked to terrorist organizations
misleading HINDRAF struggle for his own political survival
denying the 18 demands of HINDRAF as absurd and claim that the Indians were not marginalized.
It is plainly clear the initiative now is to gain popularity and to repair the damage done to his reputation as an obsolete leader.

I wish to stress Uthayakumar wouldn't want a freedom based on sympathy by Samy Velu or anyoneone else.

FREEDOM should come on basis of acknowledgement that HINDRAF struggle is legitimate and his struggle is peaceful and not a National Security Threat.

I'd like to say something here: For example, Victoria Cross, Medal of Honor or Purple Heart winners are made out of desperate situations. No-one really born as a hero.
This SV guy still wants to cling on, hold on and see if he can still be champion of the Indian community. He should go and let others take charge. He lost in the GE, and should live out retirement gracefully. MIC will find their hero somewhere within the ranks or someone will rise up to the opportunity as soon as he's gone. The longer he stays there, we'll here more hate and it'll hurt the party as well. He's overstayed his welcome, like some others in BN too. Its perhaps he just refuse to understand this at all.. its sad!. You think what Rustam said were kind words?. Its almost tantamount to showing him the middle finger.

I think Mano must file a suit in Court to get the court to decide if the rejection was on reasonable grounds. These BN folks dont like to be in court where truth will prevail. Doesnt matter that swearing in passes, its the principle. So if court decides that Minister's decision is incorrect or based on grounds which no reasonable Minister in his position (a legal principle here) would have decided then he has won and BN will have egg on its face ... AGAIN! :)
