depends on what course he wants to further in. i'm not sure but for local U, it's a must to have credit in BM.

There are lots of Education Fair in town now. Mid Valley & PWTC, cant remember the dates but maybe ur brother can go there and enquire.

Cheer up, it's not end of the world! SPM results only reflect one's performance academically. There are still plenty of opportunity ahead for him.

Taylor's having its open days now, so does education fair is at the Mid Valley today and tmr. Grab this opportunity! You as the older should become his counsellor now, find out which field that he likes, maybe find a course that focus less on academic, but on skills. I saw an ad from Taylors last year that they offer course plus allowance (half work half study) and best of all, get paid for doing that!!! :D

So, waste no time... all the best :)

you can try checking out the posted suggestions but i doubt you'll be in luck.
there's a minimum requirement entry level for most courses.
like you said, he failed spm.
only thing i can suggest is repeat form5.
all the best.

I agree with coleslaw. If your brother intends to further his studies, I think repeating spm is the best option. With the results your brother got will not bring him far and the choices will surely be limited.

Good luck.

... Is there anyway for him to proceed to tertiary education? Advice needed...
If I understand it correctly, tertiary education means pursuing courses at university. For anyone who fails their Form 5*, they may as well forget about tertiary education. University education is not a walk in the park - there is a need for some level of ability to learn and understand academic stuff. The reason for exams like the 5th Form is to evaluate a student's ability to go for academic courses. Having failed form 5 means the student is not suited for academic courses. Do not push him to do something that he has no aptitude for.

However, not all is lost. That is why they have trade schools and other stuff that demands less of the academic inclinations. Relook at his skills and talents. Ask yourself what he is good at and then try to match a career to his ability. Success does not mean going to university.

* Note - in this discussion "failing" form 5 is referred to failing in the academic subjects like maths, science, geography .... failing form 5 because of a fail in BM is not included because there are students who fail BM but do well in other academic subjects

Try looking out for Colleges to do matriculation and all (eg Canadian Matriculation, South Australian Matriculation, etc).. they may be able to offer him a conditional offer. If he fails the first term, they may have to kick him out.

You should ask him : is he keen to proceed to tertiary education? Does he have the inclination? If the answer is affirmative, then he should resit for his SPM. It is not really advisable to proceed to the next level (Form 6/A-levels, etc) when one's foundation in general education is shaky.

If not, he should consider acquiring some skill by enrolling in a trade school or going through some apprenticeship scheme. This route does not mean he will have a less successful future. Trends are changing, skilled workers are probably in greater demand than graduates these days.

Agree. SPM is only a paper. lots of successful people dont even finished their school. But in malaysia seems like paper results are important. there are more than good exam results matters actually.

Remember the standard 6 girl, commit suicide because she didnt get all As in her UPSR. it's so sad when a 12 year old end up her life because of that.

Yes, better to check with your brother first.
If he doesn't feel like studying or resitting, sometimes, it's best he works first.
This allows him time to think about his interest and what are his strenghts.
Working and studying is also quite common this days.

Why not resit?

Yes...do convince yr bro to resit...time is on his side and cost effective however he must endeavour to get minimum 3 credits for SPM (Eng/Math and one more subject) to be able to enrol for a diploma in business admin and then final year for business degree.

Yes, jianwei85 is right in the matter of July Paper. I had invigilated for both the paper before and that it was more tougher compared with the annual spm paper. If resitting the papers is in your head, you should find a good tuition teacher to help him in these two subjects. As for enrolment back to Form 5, I personally won't recommend it as it will waste him another year and since he is not into it academically, asking him to sit with his junior and all the hassles and pressure, not to mention a whole year of tension of studying all the subjects again... believe me, no one likes it.

As what I had been mentioned earlier, there were plenty of advertisement on the Education Guide in yesterday's Star Paper (Wed 19.3.08) Good luck :)

Dear Mitosblog,

Do not mislead these teenagers that $$$ can 'kao thim' everything. That is the most silly thing to write !

By the way, how old are you ? Did you buy your degree from over-the-counter university or on-line university ?

Failing all subjects and expecting to get a degree is totally crazy
