The drain in my bathroom sink is clogged. Tried stuff that comes in a bottle from the hardware store - the liquid type that you pour in. But it doesn't clear the clog much. RIght now, the water is flowing real slow.
I think most of the stuff clogging the drain is human hair (from the head).
Any ideas of what else I can do.

Below the sink is what you call a basin trap. You'll need to dismantle it (or a plumber do it), manually clean out all the years of sludge. If your basin trap is developer supplied one, and not the expensive type..I suggest replacing it altogether..its NOT expensive. I've done mine few times.

Err Gina dear...if Orchi may suggest...
Get a handy pump - a big rubber suction cup attached at the end of a handle...which is sold cheap at the hardware store.
Fill the basin up with running water...n insert the handy pump(rubber cub end) over the sink hole n start to give it a few pumps...until you see that the running water in the basin or sink...is fast dispensing...meaning you would have cleared the clog..
Repeat it a few times...until you see the running water isn't filling up the sink or basin...n the running water is dispensing real fast...
Good luck...

Gina..if the plunger thingy doesn't work well, you may have to clear the drain plug & like SingaporeEhSai said it could be messy & to me very, very yucky (sorry not trying to dishearten you). When my sink was blocked last time, I tried all the clog remover sold in the store & I found that the powder type works the best. Liquid one usually no good ;).

Hi Kittycat,
Do you remember the specific brand of the powder type?

Sometimes, I need to use a small plastic tube (fish tank gas tube) to push down the "cloggers" from the top.

Thanks all for the tips. Tried the plunger but I guess this clogger is a tough one. Will try the other tips.
The liquid drain uncloggers just give out a lot of smells but the effect is minimal.

So sorry :o forgot already woh.. If not mistaken, I bought it at ACE hardware - 2 in 1 kind of thing where you need to pour the contents of 1 bottle first, then the other. Got a strong smell but works quite well.
use a hose, attached to a tap and flush water down... or get those water jet...should be strong enough to clear it.

Gina,
First go and take a look at the bathroom floor outlet, try and pour some water and see how is the water flow ...if the water is flowing very slow too, that means the problem is the floor outlet not the basin outlet because the basin outlet is connected to the floor outlet pipe.
If the floor outlet draining speed is normal, then you basin out must be cloged by hairs, which is most stubborn material to be remove.
You can try with what orchi says... But i wouldnt recomend you to use the powder ( Most likely Raw soda ).

Try the crystal type (forgot what they are called. can get them from hardware shop). Pour them (1/3 to 1/2 of bottle contents) into the basin outlet. Then pour hot water. The crystals will dissolved and flush the pipes (careful for pvs pipes. may need to quickly flush with cold water).
Recommended to friends. So far all found very effective. :)
