View Full Version : Appeal From Jeff Ooi

From Jeff Ooi To USJ-Subang Jaya

Folks,

I was championing the Local Community cause alongside many of you since 1999. We have seen too much of Malaysia under the present circumstances, and that the general consensus is to make this country better in governance, in legislative process, and in equitable sharing of national wealth along a non-communal approach.

Talk is cheap. Itís now time to walk the talk. I have decided to run for Parliament in GE2008. Itís going to be a Parliamentary constituency in Penang, for me, running on the Opposition ticket.

While I aim to win, so that I could further the cause to bring in a better governance to this country, I am aware of the uphill task ahead.

You may have asked a question that I am often hurled at: Why Penang? And why not Kelana Jaya/Subang Jaya, or Puchong parliamentary seat?

The answer is obvious. Subang Jaya is just a battle. Correcting Malaysia is a whole war.

So we have to take a look of GE2008 from a strategic and tactical perspective.

For example, you are familiar with the corruption and judiciary mess in the country. But are we aware that GE2013 will be based on the re-drawn constituency boundaries scheduled for 2010? What are the chances that gerrymeandering wonít take place blatantly again?

Coming back to Penang.

Penang gives us the platform to craft a model for Future Malaysia. And donít forget, the incumbent Prime Minister come from Penang. Change will have to come from Penang.

You may read more about my personal appeal in details here:

http://www.dap-elections.com/2008/02/05/letter-why-you-had-to-come-to-penang/

What are my chances?

Standing against the might of the incumbent is tough. Intelligence says I may be facing off with incumbent Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon. I have no fear but the determination to pursue.

That said, the struggle is tough and, as you can see, I will be the little David versus the Goliath. What more, with the 3M that the incumbent commands (using your tax paid?) Ė Money, Machinery and Media.

Thatís why I am appealing to you for help.

TARGET: RM200,000
Some of you may be laughing at my election budget. Pittance compared with the ruling partyís.
Election Commission allows a maximum expenditure of RM200,000 for a Parliament seat. I am targeting to raise half of the amount from donors at large, and the other 50% from internal resources and my personal contacts.
The money will go into running the operations centre and polling machinery, printing and disseminating of election collaterals (including candidates' flyers and pamphlets running by tens of thousands), ceramahs and feeding the little troop of volunteers who will take leave, drop all tools, to help me.
To all who donate -- no amount is too small, a little few hundreds from here and there will do the job -- I will reciprocate your support each with an autographed copy of my book: i-Witness.
See: http://www.jeffooi.com/2008/02/jeff_4_malaysia_campaign_fund.php

To give me a helping hand, you can Maybank2U / ATM my MBB Subang Jaya Account:

Name: OOI CHUAN AUN.
Number: 512222409165

I will repay by speaking up for Malaysians in Parliament, if elected.

Thus far, I have managed to raised about 7.5% of the target amount, that totals about RM15,000.

Thank you.

Dear Forumers,

Thanks to the escalating price, we are all financially challenged.
I think we can help Jeff & the rest by contributing a minimum of RM10 each and by sending this appeal via e-mail to our contact's.

Imagine, if our e-mails can reach 100,000 Malaysian and 10% of them contribute RM10, we would have helped Jeff reach his target.

I have contributed and I wish to contribute to my Ex-Lecturer Mr. Charles Santiago (DAP - Klang candidate). Would appreciate anyone who can give me his bank details.

Just a quick question.

If Jeff is one candidate that requires funding, what about the others not in the BN camp? How can they raise funds?

BN fellas got lots of cash to fund their campaign. Seems like election would be a good time for big money washing machine..spin spin spin

Hi Jeff,

Most probably you will be around my constituency, but I am in Paya Terubong which I think is a bit off your location. Will go to the bank and credit your account with my very small contribution. I am retired; what I contribute is from my diminishing savings. Go Jeff, give the "big nose" a bloody nose!! You WILL be the David of Penang. I salute you!!

May I take the liberty to post your appeal letter to my contacts?

Hi folks

It's very torturing. I simply don't have time to log on, let alone to blog, and let alone to visit USJ dotcom.

I am really touched by your generosity and kindness, helping in the donation drive.

Though I am not facing KTK in the Jelutong constituency, we won't be complacent as the incumbent is super mighty in resources and machinery.

But I have reason to believe that people -- on the whole -- want change.

They want to seek refuge to fight rising prices. The want fairness so that corruption can be stopped and the nation's riches can go the rakyat's pockets.

Nothing that we do not know off.

But frankly, this GE is not about a battle between individual candidates. It's a battle to strengthen the presence of check-and-balance in the Syetem, and to enhance the quality of governance.

I am frustrated after having campaigned for Gerakan's Lim Thuang Seng (DUN Bukit Gasing, Selangor) and Lau Yeng Peng (Parliament: Puchong) and gave Abdullah Badawi 91% absolute control of the Dewan Rakyat.

I won't regurgitate the mishaps in the governance structure, but I believe four years (2004-2008) are long enough to evaluate what Abdullah stands for, and what he can deliver on his promises.

So I decided to walk the talk, and crusade to do a round of constructive criticism, from click to mortar, from online to Parliament.

I have high hopes fo winning though my fate lies in the hands of the voterts.

Worse, we lack funds and manpower. DAP had been decimated in the last three elections and morale is low. My job, and my comrades' job, is to deliver the Power of a Viable Team for the seven Parliamentary constituencies. We aim to fire the imagination of the people that it's the people who must dictate their fate in the non-violent, non-communal democratic process.

Once again, thank you very much for your kindness. I hope you could extend your support to me to Hannah Yeo, who will stand for the Subang Jaya state constituency. She is a 29-yr old lawyer.

I was told Gobind Deo, the 2nd son of Karpal Singh who is also my legal counsel -- pro bono -- when I was hurled to a police interrogation because I appeared in Al-Jazeera, will contest in Puchong parliamentary constituency.

I was also told a female incumbent MP will contest in the Kinrara state constituency.

Please do the needful.

BTW, mine IC name is OOI CHUAN AUN. But I will use JEFF OOI on the ballot paper as the election law allows for this.

Please pray for me. Thank you.

RM1000 is nothing to a Dato who makes millions out of the fat government contracts.

To the crony who lives on handout, RM1000 is just a handout.

But to an average USJ salary man who works hard for the money and still barely makes enough to send his two sons to a private education, it is a big deal...

Rakyat Malaysia has given their mandate this election. They have shown displeasure due to empty promises BN made during last election. Malaysians are very disappointed because they have high hopes for the premier in last election especially towards erradicating corruptions. The higher the hopes, the greater they will fall if they do not deliver.

So for all the new states government and representatives, it's time to deliver and prove you deserve the next term.

I couldn't get the papers yesterday, anywhere site I can see the full results. I wanna see how darling Hannah's performance is :D

Hannah garnered 23k+ votes with a majority of over 13k. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Hopefully he'll ask our new MB to waive off traffic summonses also :p Penang start first, then our turn. The summons are not from JPJ or Traffic Police, these are summonses for parking offence (no parking coupons etc) and those hawkers who were summoned for hawking at unauthorised places. The Cm/MB have no authority nor jurisdiction over summonses issued by JPJ/Traffic Police, these are Federal Government jurisdiction, not local councils.

I am in Penang and I sokong.

In fact I posted a message earlier enquiring about any active Penang forum, but got no answer. Recently found a link in this forum http://www.bukitbendera.com.my/index.asp
but clearly politically linked and appeared to be in slumber. :D

Yes, I will be going back for Ching Ming. Hope to catch up with Jeff then though not sure he can find the time. I know he is rushing his butt out, and probably working 7-11! But if I do get to see him, be assured I will convey your regards and wishes.

Cheng Beng is a day earlier this year because it is a leap year.

OK, enough of this digression. Stick to the topic please.
