Driving along the highway during festive season is most stressful especially those strech with 3 lanes. Many malaysian drivers does not realised that the right lane is for overtaking but many take it as fast lane. They just drive within the speed limit and doesn't careless about other users. Sometimes I wonder how JPJ approved their license.

How did JPJ approve YOUR license - when you are upset that you cannot go above the legal speed limit ? Last I remember, the unlimited speed limit on highways is only in Germany (perhaps some other countries.. this I do not know)
*disclaimer* I am personally (sometimes - ok ok - most times) in the same boat as you - I love driving fast and sometimes forget that I too EXPECT other drivers to get out of my way when I am driving on the 'fast' lane. I just have to repeat to myself that our public roads are filled with all sorts of drivers, and it is a futile effort to change everyone else - but I can possibly start with my own driving habits.
It may be my own mind playing tricks, but whenever I am 'speeding' on the highway, and every chance I get, I pull off to the left lane AFTER over taking, I notice that cars behind me will most likely do the same. Of course there will be the odd 'super JPJ license F1 driver that will do the opposite.
In any case, have a save drive home everyone.

i'm glad that theres a part of civil society which recognizes that not only drivers of big buses break the rules.
and after all the curses and swears, discover that the summones are against the company and not the media-abused driver. and yet nobody offers a comforting word or an apology for the false accusations... :(
i'm repeating my disclaimer, i.e. i have absolutely no relationship with or interest in or knowledge of anybody connected to any recent accidents involving public buses.

To all those drivers who flash their lights at me when I am on the right lane at speed limit overtaking>>> my messge to you >>> stay behind and take your turn, let me overtake first and then you overtake me at whatever speed you want. Flashing lights at me would not change anything, but could in fact make me stay on the right lane as long as I like.
To all those drivers who overtake me and then very quickly turn into my lane. In many instances it is because there is another car behind them and so this quick change of lane is because the second car behind is flashing the lights >> my message to you >> please go furthur then change into my lane as you can hit my car if you change too early. Ignore the nut who flash the lights at you. You are in front and it is your right to overtake safely.
To all those drivers who overtake me and then slow down >> my message to you >> please make up your mind whether you want to drive faster or slower than me. Do not overtake just for the sake of overtaking.

hmm when i took my driving license some years back it wasn't stated in the law book that the overtaking lane supercedes the speed limit.. oh well the rules might have changed since.. maybe the person person should give his car number so that i can give way to him next time i see his car on the road..

Just to digress a bit. Does anyone know what the Road Transport regulation says about use of the hazard lights ? In some countries, it is allowed only when the car is stationary. In others, it is allowed under some other conditions, like when there's fog or heavy rain to make your vehicle more visible. I remember years ago, cars are fitted with fog lamps.

I think many are anything but vague about the use of hazard lights. I've known some drivers who don't even know whats a "hazard light" nor where the switch. Nevertheless, I seem to observe its already a current road culture to use it when it rains heavily with bad visibility. It does help though but yet the fact remains most are really not in the know. I'm not sure if any emphasis about it is currently within the lessons by driving schools.
One thing though..I HATE THOSE CARS fitted with those new bright bright xenon lamps. They produce excessive glare and this country is NOT ready for it.

In these countries, the hazard lights are for stationary vehicles that pose a danger to other moving vehicles.
It is very hard to judge your distance from your moving vehicle to that moving vehicle if it uses its blinking hazard lights.
In our bolehland, there is no requirement for ALL motor vehicle manufacturers to fit the important rear fog light which provides better visibility to other drivers.
This attitude is not surprising, since some so called 'transport minister' do not even know where is the emergency lane is, let alone what its use is!
I feel the 'kampong' attitude is the rule when it comes to Roads & Highway Ethique.
It's ok for Family of 4 on the cub chai.
It's ok for bike not to have rear lights and small number plates.
In UK, Visibility for bikers are important. They have big number plates same size as cars. Wear reflective vest beside the usual helmet and head lights and rear lights always on.

Hehehe!.. VERY COMMON sight!...everyday, anytime and most of the time.
Attitude, attitude AND attitude!. I bet you all, you can jail them, fine them heavily, but it'll be square one soon after.
On other road offences, millions of drivers have been fined time and again..has it improved matters over 50 years?.. I think not!.. worse maybe.

You have a valid point BUT, we now hear of road bullies and verbal intimidation, VERY arrogant and selfish drivers on the road that test your patience thoroughly. All these were rarely heard of maybe 3 decades ago. Don't forget people are capable of sometimes rolling down the window, even shout "bodoh punya driver" to someone else who's driving is apparently more sluggish than yours. People spitting sputum out the window, throwing durian skins and car picnic trash out the windows.
These people's attitude are a threat to the safety of other road users. Bullying can be a criminal act of intimidation whereas one's slight flouting of the law can be tolerated somehow. (but how you evade the law or penalty is another matter)

You are allowed to use hazard life on a moving vehicle if it's an emergency situation (only briefly - e.g. there is a pile up in front and u were driving too fast, had to do emergency brake).
Not all bikers (by bikers, they drive harleys) -if not rare- wear vests. Their headlights are more than glaring enough. Or the noise of their how many horse power engine.

Whoops, sorry if I've unintentionally made it sound like that. Well, actually I don't think high beam flash is aggresive or intimidating.. I also do it sometimes, but when I said I try not to flash & horn as much possible is bcoz I'll give the front car a bit of time (sometimes more la if I'm not really rushing), & if the driver still don't realise, then flash, then horn if still don't know my intention.. ehem, I don't tailgate either :D If all the above fails :( then overtake lt lane (bad, bad kitty :p ) Hm come to think of it, I rmber an incident few years ago, when I honked the guy in front of me, he gave way, then after that tailgated me all the way till I reached the toll gate. like the thread says, this overtaking procedures/etiquette are only applicable on NS Highway as there arent that many cars as compared to other highways especially in the city..We dont expect to give way when the supposedly highways or expressways are jammed up right? :D
Best way, IMO, if u were tailgated in such a manner the next time is to move to left lane and let him overtake u back.No point fr u,especially a lady driver to aggravate the situation with such drivers. And never stop ur car for them to approach u. We have all read abt the case abt a man hacking to death another car driver when they got into such a situation a few years ago..
Almost everyone turns into monsters when they get behind the wheel, whether we want to admit it or not.For some examples, watch MTV's MOTORMOUTH.. :D

If you are on the innermost lane when they try to cut it you run the risk of getting into a nasty accident. If root cause of the problem is tackled and rules well enforced, we would not be seeing this happening in our daily life!

On the main topic, I think when you speed, you should not forget that you do not own the road.
I dunno. Mabe some people do not spend enough time speeding. Maybe they have no blardy guage of speed I just dunno.
But that said, flashing is pretty useless when the guy in front of you has no where to go. So flash once, flash twice, if the guy not moving, he aint going to move. Period.
If you are really fast enough, the guy in front of you will move as you appear out of nowhere behind him from the shock. But this does not mean you tail gate the guy infront.
And for goodness sake if your going to speed, pay the damned fine la. Cannot tahan people who speed then slow down without thought about the other guy speeding behind him.
Finally, I know it is irritating, for those people who get pushed off the road, but look at it this way, if the guy wanna go past, let him go past. You were in no rush anyway. Having a chat with your partner? Listening to the radio before he arrived? then just continue doing what you were doing and let him past. Why get all worked up?
Finally, I know this sounds corny, but I blame the lausy marketting, auto engineers bowing to market demand forces and just management driving engineering.
Reasons why cars are such slow asses past 140km/h, unless you drive a 3 liter is because the damned 5th gear/OD on autos are too low ratioed. At such low ratios for fuel consumption, noise reduction, environmental pressure, everytime the car goes past 140km/h its like a snail. And that is why ladies and genltleman we have this problem.
BLAME THE ENGINEERS.

They passed me near Tapah on the PLUS Highway going northward around 11.00 am, is this legal? Oh, I was doing 140kmph, they must be around 180kmph in the midst of a festive packed highway.... Malaysia bolih!
errr... the police is looking for you because you just admitted driving at 140kph... exceeding the limit of 110kph.....

Starnorth.. that was funny.. we have a driver, driving at 140KM/h asking if another driver, driving with flashing hazard lights ~ 180 KM/h is doing something not legal....this is a classic pot calling the kettle black....

Just want to share with you two common occurrences during rush hour. The first happens everyday along Jalan Semangat in PJ just as it joins Jalan Utara (between the Primary School and the playground). Picture shows a Waja (No 1) and a taxi (No 2) trying to cut in from the left. The rest of us are already traumatized by the slow traffic light at the junction and the long queue and these two morons take the easy way out by cutting in from the left. Why does it happen - because there are no traffic cops!http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii127/besitai/Cuttingqueue.jpg
The second case is when so called VIPs use police escort(s) to shove us off the road during peak hour jams. This incident happened at 5.40 pm along the Federal Highway - in front of the Volkswagen showroom. The picture shows a black limousine (I saw the word LIMO on its number plate) passing between cars after a huge tour bus (apparently carrying VIP) led by a single police escot (can't be very VIPs because only one police escort) passes through cars ahead of it. Can so-called VIPs use the police to do such a thing as they are inconveniencing the public? You know what to do on March 8!http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii127/besitai/Limo.jpg
