Smoking in Air-Conditioned Environment

Can any one enlighten me about this? I remember that sometime ago, there was a law passed in Parliment about smoking not allowed in any air-con environment. Does this extend to pubs/snooker centers/restaurants? What is the penalty for not complying?

The question is not how much is the penalty.
The issue is enforcement.
Even if the penalty is a million bucks, if no one enforces the law, all goes to nought.

Have you been to Australia or New Zealand? All the smokers have to leave the building to smoke - regardless if there is air-conditioning or not. It is very hilarious to be at airports ... next time you are there, observe how the travellers scramble out to the open air so they can get their nicotine fix right after their flights.

Things are getting better in Malaysia ... I do see people making it a habit to smoke outside buildings - without being told to. There is still hope. :)

Also in Hong Kong..Smoking not allowed inside all buildings, shops, restaurants , coffee shops ,ect. And funnily some pubs and restaurant has their own makeshift smoking area outside their shops...Some even place cushions on the concrete slabs/ flower planters at the sidewalk outside the restaurants with tables so smokers can sit ,eat and smoke...And at night during winter they even put up heating elements outside to keep the smokers warm and cosy...while enjoying the "fresh" air.. :D

I have to disagree with you there Chang.. I work at an office building in downtown KL and although there is a specific place for people to smoke right outside the building .. and people do use it.. more often than not, i will encounter so called educated people smoking in the toilets... everytime i come back from the toilet i smell like a chimney... but dont take my word for it.. just go to your local mall toilet... chances are somebody has been smoking in there like it was in sekolah menengah..

No smoking signs are posted everywhere but these people just ignore the signs and make life difficult for non smokers... i have no issues with people smoking.. they can go kill themselves slowly and waste their money.. just dont do it where non smokers are...
