Got this from a friend. Cannot verify accuracy but worthwhile knowing and staying alert. This world is now full of crime, scams and deceit. If only these crooks could put their grey matter to better use...

"I felt the real need to tell everyone :
A while ago heard that my friend's brother-in law's mother was cheated of 350,000. And today, this thing happened to me, until now, when I think of it, I still feel numb all over. Only difference is that they did not manage to cheat my money.

This afternoon, I was still in the office on my computer when my handphone rang, I picked it up, but no answer on the other side. I hung up, but it rang again, I looked but there was no registered no, I picked up the phone and again no one on line. This happened for many mnay time, I did hear some soft voices of a few man on the other side but could not hear exactly what they are saying. This went on and on, my phone just did not stop ringing. Then I remembered what I read in the newspapers and decided to call home.
But I kept calling and could not get through to my house no and no one picked up on my mother's handphone. Meantime, my handphone did not stop ringing. I was getting really worried and finally managed to get through to home and my mother picked up the phone. She was crying and kept asking me where I was. When I told her I was at the office, she would not believe me and I needed to reassure her that yes, I am in the office.

I found out that someone called my mother telling them that I borrowed 120,000 from them and asked her to bring that money immediately for my release. They even had someone screaming at the side pretending to be me "Mum, I am xxxx, come save me quick"… My mother was so scared and the party kept my mother on the line with a lot of rubbish, refusing to let her hang up. Kept telling my mother to prepare the money to save me. Luckily I called home, other wise my mother would have gone to prepare the money.

Please be careful¶..

1. The cheaters thought that if they keep calling my handphone, I will feel really annoyed n switch off my handphone then my mother will not be able to contact me.
2. The cheaters must have also kept her on the phone all the time so as not to give her time to call me to confirm my safety.
Please go home and tell your family, so if they meet the same situation, do not worry, do not panic. Call around to check, many phones you can use. If your handphone also ring non-stop like mine, do not switch off your hand phone. Call home immediately to check. Let your family know that you are ok. "

Thanks patrick for the info.

People nowadays are daring.

Folks it is a trend now. People being kidnapped and ransom demanded. It's a trend now. Many years ago, we hardly hear of ransom demanded over the phone so rampantly. Many years ago there is not that many snatch thief incidences. Many years ago, ladies are not just kidnapped and pushed into the car just like the graphic designers :(

what can we do now? It seems to me like the public have to be proactive and do something. It seems to me like the public have to be the police now.

Crimes are moving up a notch... what is happening?

Are we going through economic hard times?
Always thought that there is a co-relation between crime rates and hard times.
hmmm could be true

that one hard to stop.

if not inside people, should ask question like "ask him what he had for yesterday dinner?" or
"what is his Xmas gift from me?" If the guys on the other side can't answer that, note down the time, make a police report and HOPE the police will find out the called ID from telecom and take some action.

Do you think is a good idea if the law will place a heavy fine + jail on such crime then use the fine to reward the police who help solve the case?

police need motivation = money is the best motivation
= money come from low salary +
not so good kopi money +
reward to solve cases.

We have two kinds of hard times.

1. Imported hard times. Immigrants, both legal and illegal, who come hear coming to strike it rich. Reality bites and they start resorting to crime! Since here already....what to do?? Further, foreigners have no ic, there no finger prints to match and hence harder to catch!!

2. Hard times caused by import. We keep bringing in foreign workers, the locals are not able to compete. How to compete with their level of expectation, their ability to live cheaply in unacceptable environment and standard of living? Sadly, we continue to hear of new industries, projects creating how many more jobs. But I always wonder.....more jobs for whom????? Then the greedy employers offer to pay low wages. Local workers cannot accept. Then they bring in more foreigners on grounds that local workers dont want to do the job!!! See....our locals get caught in a catch 22 situation!!! How not to resort to crimes? Please dont get me wrong. I am not condoning local criminals....

I do not answer the phone if the number is unknown. I do not do business so I do not expect calls from strangers. ;)

Best is not to panic but follow proper procedure. If the mother cannot reach the son on the hp then call his work place land line or someone who know the son to verify the info before rushing off to the bank.

Aiyoh..what happens if you loved ones lost their hp and are in desperate need of help. Then borrow someone else's phone to call you. How??? Just thinking of a possible scenario....

You may not panic. But your elderly folks may react differently!

Xmas, New Year and CNY is just round the corner and every year end we hear of those "scamsters" offering cheap so called Kastam confiscated Mobile phones at dirt cheap prices.......

Be careful as those Scamsters just want your interest free money to roll over this festival seasons as the so called Confiscated Phones is never delivered.......BUT if you are Lucky, those guys will pay you back in installments when the tell you that they will be responsible for the money and the Kastam has taken the monies !!!

This happens especially during year end n festival seasons.......Dont be a Victim !
