I use wireless with my streamyx. For the past 1 year on most nights, the line keep dropping and then come up again (signal come on, then off, then on). This make my accessing the net slow.

I called the streamyx people and they said my equipment not compatible with theirs. I use D-link, they said Aztech is the recommended one.. ok, so I changed. But the problem still persists

Anyone experienced this problem and what remedy to take ? (short of terminating streamyx).

By the way now I got a spare set of d-link for sale, or aztech... any takers ?

?

I suggest you not listen to their customer service as they are amateur people who are trained to cater to amateur customers ie. those who don't know how to use modem, those who use computer for the first time etc.

Sometimes, it is the fault of TMNET itself.

Their technical staff is not in the front line of customer service but at the backstage. Ask one of your computer friend to do some troubleshooting for you first.

If proven not your fault, then it is TMNEt 's port problem.

After reading the numerous complaints about bad links on Streamyx, I have concluded that it has everything to do with location. It actually depends on where you hook up to Streamyx from, and where your port is located in the Telekoms' exchanges. Some areas have trouble free connections. My connection is one of them. I am only a short distance away from the Telekoms exchange in USJ6. Therefore, I assume all residents staying in USJ5, USJ6, USJ8, USJ9, and USJ11 have very liitle complaints with Streamyx.

I've faced interruptions of no access to the internet at least 3-4 times every month ranging from an hour to half a day..the worst case happened last week, out of order for 3 days. I had to make an effort to call 3-4 times (mind you the calls ARE NOT FREE) and follow up their due action till its back in order. I'm just annoyed that its been happening month after month and I can't conclude its exactly "trouble-free". I'm rather lazy to go through the usual rigmarole the support team always insist, when I damn well know there's NOTHING wrong with any of my equipment on my end.
I'm hoping subscribers will get at least 2mbit to 10mb access soon..its like already overdue behind the competition. How long is it we've had broadband in this country?..As with DS LKY ..I hate "best effort".

Hahaa... [wanna choke!] please tell me what is NOT best effort... especially when it come to public utilities and services in Malaysia. They shove it down your throat in a take it or leave it attitude... aka. COULD CARE LESS attitude...

I can bet my last ringgit these MINISTERS pandai cakap, just to please the voting [gullible] public but at home, have the most canggih connections to broadband, satellite broadcasts and whatnots... and if/when they are not working - one freaking phonecall to the relevant providers - would send their tekkies scurrying like rats - to get it fixed...

Problem is all broadband providers are equally bad. Using Streamyx in USJ 16 is kinda ok, of coz, the download is only around 100k. Then I tried Maxis. Initially it was fine, but as more users signed-up, I can hardly even access them most time and the download is like 30k. Jaring wasn't better coz their signal can only be received if you were high-up in apartments. Celcom doesn't give information to their sales or service centers. So you can't even get info on how to sign-up.
Doesn't really leave you with much choices, rite? :p

Not much choices unless we move south... Singtel offers:

1 Mbps Line Unlimited for $33.63 per month
3 Mbps Line Unlimited for $45.00 per month
6 Mbps Line Unlimited for $65.00 per month
10 Mbps Line Unlimited for $85.00 per month

I pay RM88.00 per month for a 1 Mbps Line Unlimited.....

By the way, a word that I've learn during the days when i was with another ISP called EB Technologies called "intermittent". This is the correct word to replace "dropping" in which internet lines don't drop :P .

Your D-Link is it a 4 port wireless router or a switch, i think you need to give more details. Try posting the details and specification in the Flea Market.

Unplug everything including ur microfilter.

Plug only ur house phone into the socket. Is the dial-tone clear? I mean squeeking clear without any noise whatsoever.

If yes, then the problem's at the Telekom Exchange.

starrnorth88: What's your Dlink model?.. perhaps there's a firmware update to correct any bugs.. I know Aztech does periodically updates to its modems for compatibility issues. But not everyone know how to upgrade the firmware (all modems and wireless routers are firmware upgradable, even your cellphone).

I've been using Streamyx for a couple of years now, and to be fair, I think the service have been good most of the time and getting better. Of course there are times when the service is down, but of late it had been quite stable.
Sometimes I can leave the modem on for days on end without having to reboot it, but sometimes I need to reboot it a couple of times a day, to solve most of the connectivity problems.

I am using the Aztech modem which came with the Streamyx package.

I have also subscribed to the 4G Izzi broadband and find that while it's quite stable, prefer Streamyx. The 4G is used by my son, it's supposed to give 1M broadband, but when I tried it most of the time am able to get about half that.

And here's Telekom planning to spend RM15.2 billion on a "national" broadband network.

If they can't get a basic 1Mbps service to work properly, how are they going to handle an ultra-highspeed broadband network?

Maybe they will get Digi to buy over the project??? :D

before we repeatedly bash streamyx again and again...please confirm our own equipment side that is not faulty.

intermittent dropping can be due to many causes.

for better network performance,

0) if you have option to use USB or Ethernet connection to your modem, pick the Ethernet always.

1) use wire network if you can.

2) if you really want wireless, try this
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/wirelesstips.mspx

3) Use downloader program to download big files -- flashget etc.

I have this problem quite often... at least a few times during my 1 hour surf sessions.

Called TM customer line... the lady suggest that I create a new network connection in network places... huh,...i was totally shocked! how is that going to help? when the line drops the adsl modem light is blinking...creating new connection will help?

do you guys still face this problem
