Let's post some examples of good "local" restaurants featured in the local papers....focus on USJ, SJ, Sunway, Puchong and any other worthy communities...places that are easy to get to on an evening or weekend

To start...

The local restaurant TJ Haus, in SS18, was featured in The Star (http://www.thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2007/10/1/central/18914978&sec=central) today.

At the risk of sounding cynical, my personal opinion is that the excellent joints are seldom featured in the papers. They don't need more crowd to crowd their crowdered place. It is more often through word of mouth, like the many you can find in the Cari Makan thread.

Only those that need the PR will cough out a meal for the so called food columnist. And do we really expect negative comments. Perhaps TJ might be the first but I have yet to be foodcited by such reviews.

The last I went to, was a particular bistro in Sunway Mentari which was featured and recommended in the papers as well. And I believe you can really hurt someone if you throw the "stoned" chop at them. Heck, even Stoned-Cold Austin will be knocked out!

If you want something more reasonably priced and tasty, go around the corner to Buffalo Steakhouse. Just don't order the bolehland watery spaghetti or go at lunch time unless you have a fetish for waiting in queue.

The newspaper praised this shop sky high. The food was disappointing. Never went back again and never trusted those "reviews" anymore. :D

Fetish for waiting in line for food? That ain't my thing, bro. Fetish for something else, yes but we sure ain't going down that path today or ever (in here). :p :p

Its just like in the forum these right ups are just guides.. end of the day its your decision its up to you if want try, you will never know untill you try, one mans meat is another mans poison.. and in this case i love TJ Haus, been there numerous times and will go this weekend for the roast duck.

Obviously there are many resturants of this nature around.

don't 'splash cold water lar'... :D

here's one...not sure whether it was printed or not, but it was featured in NST's Goodbites online. Curry fish head, hidden in USJ1.

Never try it actually but the crowd (and my neighbour) tells me it must be good. Went there twice but was turn off by the crowd. But I did try the one outside (just before the right turn to F4 restaurant), they have exactly the same dishes (curry fish head, ham tan sotong, hoi wong tau foo etc). Not bad.

I too have not tried the place mentioned above but I do know the writer of the article personally. If he says that a place is good then you can take it that he finds it good. Why I qualified myself is because of the old adage, "one man's meat is another man's poison", ie. just because Sam thought it was good does not necessarily mean that you would find it good yourself................... As firefox said earlier, it is only a guide............ and in this case, I am certainly more than willing to give it a go (when I can find the time).

I do have to agree that those newspapers and tv recommended joints are rarely good, either in term of food quality or service.
During the interview, they of coz will give better service and quality food. If not how to write better?
When we as customers do actually show up, things are always very much different.
I have already given up on these recommendations. Too many times of disappointments.

we know Sam personally, he is not like what you guys are saying.........he says it as it is kinda guy.

anyway, food is personal taste for most cases. services too, there are people willing to wait 45 minutes for a bowl of pork noodles while some wud not wait 2 minutes for their food. we need to take review with a pinch of salt.
