For the past 3-4 weeks, I have been receiving calls on my mobile from the Hong Leong Bank Card Centre asking me if I have received their VISA Platinum Card for me and wifey. They wanted me to activate the cards as soon as possible, preferably before 30 September. I told them I have not received the cards as I am based in S. Alam and my home address is in Batu Ferringhi. I also told them I did not apply for these cards too.
They persisted and kept calling me - even when I was in the midst of important meetings at the Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs. To stop the hassle, I told them I will activate the cards when I am back in Penang and since I have been here, there were more hassles.
I called 1800-38-8888 on Tuesday (September 25) and informed a Jacob that I did not receive any cards in my letter box. He said the cards have been returned to their Card Centre and will call me back. No calls came.
I called 1800-38-8888 again on Wednesday (September 26) and a Lim spoke to me. He promised to send the card to their Burmah Road Branch here in Penang and will call me to confirm. No calls came.
This morning I called 1800-38-8888 again and spoke to a Hafiz. He said he would check. He told me later that there is nothing in his screen thats says any instruction has been given for the cards to be sent to their Burmah Road Branch. So, I asked to speak to their manager in charge of the Call Centre, Joey.
According to her, Jacob was trying to reach me but couldn't get thru, what nonsense. I had my mobile in my pocket 24/7 and they now shift the blame on the customers, hmmm is that what the Hong Leong Customer Service is all about?
Anyway, I have justb told Joey to keep the cards. I don't need no Platinum Cards that I did not apply for!

WAH!!!! YOU ARE SUCH A NICE CUSTOMER!!!!
yeah! you are a very nice customer and this bank really lost a very good customer. They should ask themselves, how many customers actually call them to ask for a card they didn't register! you gave them chance and yet they didn't grab it.

AI YO YOAnd they now blame me for not able to reach me on my mobile? In my job, the mobile is on 24/7 with a spare battery in my trouser pocket! How could they say they failed to reach me?
I just think that this Hong Leong Call Centre is really funny too. I have a small car loan with them which I pay monthly on a Standing Instruction (SI) but they always call me a few days before the loan is due to remind me to make payment. I told them each and everytime they call that its a SI, and they say "Oh, okay then". But the following month, they will call and remind me again.... :D

This is very funny and I am thoroughly amused :) I am sure whoever developed their eCRM system forgot to sell them the customer history/log tab! :D

They blame you for not being able to reach your mobile phone? Well, that is obviously non-sense. I am sure those jokers must have heard of voice mail. If not, I am sure they have heard of SMS.
In today's age, I think it is impossible that one party can't get to another another party. Even when my friend is in another continent, I am still able to SMS him. No big deal!

for the past 2 years, this hong leong card centre has been calling me asking for a LEOW SOOK CHAN over and over again and I have explained to them very clearly that i am NOT this person. Nothing seem to stick, they are still calling once a month. Why do they continue this futile exercise.

Maybe after harassing you for several months, they will be able to 'break' you down and you will start shouting, "Yes! Yes! I confess, I am LEOW SOOK CHAN! Take me....!!!". :D

HLB Call Centre is not very effective. And it's not available 24/7 either.
Their working hours is something like 0900-2300, out of that time, certain service not available.
But totally different scenario with the Priority Banking Call Centre, 24/7, very helpful & very friendly.

Err buddy Greenbug...many years back...Orchi's 1st ever experience with HLB went like this...
Orchi got a call from one of HLB credit card's telemarketeers...who said Orchi was eligible for a gold card.
Despite Orchi's initial refusal...he was very persistent n had insisted that the procedures were easy...so Orchi gave in subsequently by submitting the relevant documents necessary together with the completed application form to the telemarketeer by fax.
A week after that...a lady called from HLB's card cetre to verify Orchi's application for a gold Master card...which Orchi had indicated in the application form.
Then she said...the best HLB can do is to offer Orchi...a regular Master card instead of the gold one...n had insisted that Orchi accepts the offer in order for them to send out the regular Master card to Orchi asap.
Having heard that...Orchi recalls now having told the lady politely...that HLB can take that regular Master card...n shove it up thru the nose of the telemarketeer(the name was given to the lady) whom had assured Orchi before that Orchi was eligible for a gold card...to begin with.
n that was it...until another week had gone by...Orchi came home to see an envelop sent from HLB...which was the 1st ever mail Orchi had received from HLB.
Upon opening of the envelop...Orchi discovered a new Gold Master card issued by none other than HLB...n upon checking the covering letter which was attached with the card...amongst the usual greeting n congratulating words in the covering letter...the credit limit was stated as...RM15,000/-
Ahem...having seen that...Orchi took the card...n scissored it...in halves...n thus that was the 1st...n the LAST thing Orchi had anything to do with...Hong Leong Bank.
Until this very day...when you buddy Greenbug...just coincidently reminded Orchi of how "irritating" Hong Leong Bank or its telemarketeers could be...

I told the telemarketeer 3 weeks ago not to bother as I have already got both Visa and Master Platinum issued by the other banks but she insisted that she has already sent it to my Penang address. Since so many of them called over the last 2-3 weeks, I agreed to activate the cards.
What happened in the last couple of days really pissed me off big time! I suppose its either poor training or just plain pushy in their business or simply poor management of the centre.

There were 3 "missed calls" from Hong Leong Bank yesterday within a couple of minutes just before lunch. I was at that time in a car to Klang with office buddies for lunch so didn't bother to pick up the calls as it would surely spoil my mood for what I was looking forward to a good, hot lunch in the cool of the drizzle. Hmmm... these guys at Hong Leong are a persistent (and irritating) lot alright.
I picked up the 4th call while at lunch, a mistake as I didn't look at the incoming call ID. A senior officer identified himself and tried to explain to me tadada tadada tadada and offered his apologies. These guys don't get it at all. It wasn't the fact the fact that I did not receive the Platinum Card that pissed me off! It was the running around and the lies told by those telemarketers and blaming me that they couldn't reach me on my mobile, still don't get it?
since we are on credit card, recently i received a credit card from Celcom Citibank without me applying for one. to activate, i just need to call them.
i am not a Celcom user, why do they sent me cards which i don't need??
any answers out there?? pls.

Wifey called from Penang a while ago (I'm back in Shah Alam) saying there's a reminder card from PosLaju indicating a package delivery from Hong Leong Bank and to collect the same. Ha! Ha! Ha! These buggers don't give up easily! We are not going to collect them cards... these people are so damn pushy its getting to be terribly irritating and annoying!!!!

Have some pity la, these people are generally given impossible targets to meet (client targets for credit cards). They probably earn miserable fixed salaries and the payoff for their Proton is probably coming from the commissions they earn everytime someone activates their new card.

Of course they don't have the right to harass people but then if they did not meet their targets, they don't get adequately paid. It is basically a dog-eat-dog world out there.
Reminds me of my boss's comment about the porn DVD peddlers at the pasar malam - my boss actually sympathized with the skinny kid that peddled the wares. According to his view, these kids are just making their buck...at least they are not out robbing someone. The crooks are the people who copy the discs and make a trade out of it. As far as the skinny blokes are concerned, they are just selling something for the commission or salary. In a way, my boss had a point - the authorities should not be arresting the peddlers but get the tycoons who work behind the scene.
Therefore similarly, don't shoot the card peddlers, but take it out on the bank managers that make these unreasonable demands on the low-paid staff to harrass people like you.

whilst on this topic of credit cards, actually, it is not worth gettin a hong leong bank credit card. i dont think i would even if they paid me to!!! not after what my close fren went thru with them.... just to share d bad experience dat she had with them b4. as a result, she cancelled her hong leong bank credit card n closed her bank account with them. whilst some banks may seem inefficient n dun even try to hide d fact, hong leong bank seems efficient on d surface, at least that is what i thot oso, until i found out abt my fren's horror experience.
she mentioned dat they claim to have recently upgraded their phone bankin system but it appears to be more more user-unfriendly n in dat sense a downgrade!
in december last year, she tried to make her reward points redemption b4 it expires come jan. she tried to contact d phone bankin system but she wasnt able to access it cos d system was down. i advised her to just go to d branch n do it lah... save d hassle.
she took my advice n went there.... hong leong bank ss2 branch. she spoke to d customer service officer downstairs who brought out d redemption booklet... n then she filled out d form n d officer said she will fax it to d credit card centre.... so my fren was very happy, but come january, she still hadnt received anythin. she went to d branch to check n they said they had already faxed it, not to worry.
i guess it musta been her instincts cos later she thot she'd better double check so she tried to call via d hong leong bank phone bankin system n check. it was a good thing she did. she had to choose option 'O' n speak to a customer service officer cos it is in d none of d above category for options 1-5... ha!
anyway, she was horrified when d customer service officer told her no redemption had been made under her name n that her points r now expired as at end of dec... anyway, she told d officer that she had already made d redemption in dec so how come it isnt in d system when it is already jan!!
d officer then apologized n said she will input d redemption then.... so end of story.... or so she thought....
later, i happened to ask her what happened, did she receive d stuff she redeemed for n she said no.... which prompted her to call them again....
n horrors of horrors, d officer said, 'sorry, there's no redemption under ur name. anyway, all ur points have expired by now, ma'am!' she was so upset cos she felt hong leong bank had cheated her of her reward points.... she told d officer abt her redemption in dec n her earlier call.... n d officer said she will check n contact her back....
well, my fren complained dat til date, she hadnt received a call from them. she told me today she just called them again, n d officer she spoke to confirmed, 'there is nothing in d system abt any points redemption ma'am.... ' n she had to tell d officer everythin all over again....
n u know wat d officer said... ie as in to pass d buck, 'i will ask d officer u spoke to earlier who is sposed to get back to u, to call u...'
geez... like i told her just cancel d card n close ur account with hong leong bank la... waste to time to deal with ppl like dat.... at this rate, it doesnt seem like anybody is workin there!!
