How do Vista Home Basic find this operating system? For older people who find change harder to manage, will keeping to Windows XP be more convenient?
I understand Vista offers more security, but is it user-friendly?

It like the new proton that's just launch, many problems to be iron out and other unforeseen problems being discover.
Noted that Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is currently in development and planning to release SP1 in the first quarter of 2008. This SP1 is to improve on problems and bugs. They have identifying three major areas of improvement: reliability(/security) and performance, administration experience, and support for newer and old hardware.
Most of us will eventually use vista when is becomes more stable and widely accepted. In the meantime, I am more comfortable with XP.

You can always check out the product comparison from www.microsoft.com.
I would not recommend Vista Basic. As the name implies, it's a stripped down version that doesn't do much. The home premium version which doesn't cost much more is the minimum.
But then, sticking with Windows XP will most likely give you less headache.

I agree with mlkok.
Even if you choose Vista today, it looks like you will end up with XP anyway.

finetuned, I believe that website is a humour website - don't take it seriously
Anyway, I for one will not get Vista because of reports that there are problems installing old devices like printers to the Vista enabled PC.
The plus point for Vista is its security features. I undestand from a friend that it allows the parent to set up parental control on usage of the PC applications by their children.

Actually, the Inquirer is often quite accurate on true news about the Vole.
But of course, they do occasionally report a poke at the world's greatest software company....especially if it happens to be from BBspot, the world's greatest tech humour site.
But having said all that, there is an element of truth in that many of us who are more familiar with operating systems do prefer XP to Vista.

So far my Vista is working fine. All the negative things people said about it did not materialise. I was ready to dump it for XP the moment something goes wrong but until now, nothing has gone wrong. It has additional features and I like it.
As I see it, things are being integrated more and more. I recently installed the Windows Mobile Device Center to active sync with my Dell Axim PDA. The improvement is so vast over the old active sync. It integrated so nicely with the other programs and it offers so many other options.
The important rule to remember is to update it regularly. That means having original copy of the MS Office and OS. I leave it to update automatically and these updates help to fix security leaks and other stuff. The people with the problems are usually those with non-original and since they cannot update their OS or MS Office, they are opened to bugs and attacks.

You are so right. As long as you use the latest uptodate MS software (=$$$$ to MS), Vista works okay (not great, but just okay).
But unfortunately the world doesn't only run on mediocre MS software, and MS does not produce 90% of the quality software and device drivers I need to use daily.

Recently, there have been events which seem to indicate that what BBspot so playfully reported is no longer a mere joke.
Read the following articles:
1. Lenovo offers Vista downgrade to XP to its customers: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/VSTA-DWNGRD.html
2. Microsoft itself has decided to extend its support of XP: http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2199804/microsoft-extends-xp
3. A call from the IT industry for Microsoft to give up Vista: http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9785337-7.html?
Please note that these sites are not humour tech sites.

Vista must be another Win Me coz Microsoft is already working on a new OS slated to be release in another 2 years. That's very quick considering that XP has been around for twice that amount of time. :D
