The Young KL Singers (YKLS) turn 5 this year and we want to celebrate with YOU!
With nine productions, one BOH Cameronion Arts Award, Gold and Silver Choral Assessment Outstanding Achievers Awards from the Trinity International Examination Board and numerous performances to its name, the YKLS is proud to present out tenth production, Move It!, which also happens to be YKLS' 5th Anniversary Concert. This year also marks the opening of YKLS' new home, under the Young Choral Academy (YCA) - an umbrella of the country's first academy for choral music.
To commemorate this special celebration, the Young KL Singers are putting together the biggest show so far by bringing back "the best of" the works of the various genres it has performed, from the first to its most recent concert. For the first time, the YKLS are working with theatre practitioner and visual artist, Chee Sek Thim of the Five Arts Centre who is the Director of the whole show and renowned dancer/choreographer, Mew Chang Tsing, our Guest Choreographer.
Move It! will feature, among others, 'One Day More' from Les Miserables, 'You'll Never Walk Alone' from Carousel, 'Magnificent Horses', a Mongolian song from a world song themed concert in 2004 and choral works composed by Malaysian composers such as 'Yang Indah' by Saidah Rastam from M! The Opera. The YKLS Chamber Choir will also bring back Debussy's 'Yver, vous n'etes qu'un villian' from its concert in 2005 titled Four Seasons. This concert will also able to see the choir premiering a new theme song 'Walk with Me!' which was composed and arranged by the members of the choir, especially for this concert.
In short, the YKLS' 5th Anniversary Concert is set to be a memorable celebration of sorts – a new home, four years of blissful memories on and off the stage and unity in the diversity that is evident in both the members as well as the music it shares. So make a date to catch these vibrant singers in their element and join in their revelry of five wonderful years together!
