I was surprised by the progress of my niece's progress in Mathematics after he went to Kumon for about 6 mths. He can complete 5 exercises (each abt 10 pages with 10 questions) in 10 mins.

If anyone could share... is Kumon method really that effective? A short discussion with his parent revealed that method adopted by Kumon centre is 'practice makes perfect'...in another word, one will practice and practice to get familiarization. Is this a correct way to learn? I understand from the discussion that the student attended the class just to practice the mathematic questions....

Any opinion is welcome. :)

Practise do make perfect, especially remembering 1-9, 2-8, 3-7, 4-6 etc... just like we learn the multiplication chart 1x1=1 or chinese bids, it benefited us in our daily life to speed up our calculation.

I believe the more important thing is: Has the child understand the concept behind those numbers? and will the child know how to apply it into daily life... On the other hand, is the child enjoying the learning process and get confident on maths? Make sure the child is not force to do it machanically, or just for the sake of parents satisfaction.
