My son goes to SriComel. He started not recognizing all his ABCs. Now he can read newspapers. Unfortunately, his maths is not as good.

All in all, I think it is a pretty good kindy.

I hv always wanted to send my daughter to Sri Comel.... mind to share with us the teaching technique? How about the school fees, etc? One thing a bit inconvenient is they don't provide day care service.... :( A friend of mine suggested that we send to Sri Comel in the morning and day care at the nearby Little Inventor nursery. :)

Hi Mammoth. Will tell you the fees later when he comes back as it's all at the message book. But what i know is that monthly fees are RM 270 inclusive of Mandarin classes.

I am ashamed to admit that i'm not sure what technique or method that they use. This is what i know. For reading, they use the ladybird series. Generally, they teach them pretty heavy stuff, I think. He is already using books that is in the STD 1 or 2 level. Some of the maths problems looks pretty complicated for a 6 year old. But i guess it's good training for them. I am now pretty sure my son will ha ve no trouble with Std 1. Don't get me wrong. They havr fun too. He's pretty happy to go to kindy everyday. Reckon even happier if he doesn't need to wake up early. : )

They're also very careful with the children's safety. I will be sending my daughter there next year.

Here is the tel no : 03 5635 8718

a friend's daughter is attending sricomel. in my opinion, it is a good pre-school as they are committed to help your children to read english, bm and mandarin. what they do daily is to read and read and read - fluency through repetition.
she started this year without any knowledge in bm and mandarin - and she can now read her books. however, she will need more exposures (from home) to understand the meaning of those words in bm & mandarin.
as for english, she started this year with basic knowledge of phonics and blending of sounds. she cruises through from book 2A in jan to book 8A in aug. at sri comel, they teach phonics as well as recognition of words.
however, i get the impression that she doesn't quite enjoy maths, probably the level they teach is a little basic.
in my opinion, it may not necessarily be suitable for all children as some are more self-motivated than others. i suggest sending your child to montessori-based first. if he/she is progressing rather well, then you can always send him/her to sricomel for 2 final years of preschool.

Gee, thanks for the sharing ..... I was thinking to meet up with the Principal to find out more sometime next week. Now that you have summarized everything, it saves lots of my time. :D

I heard few cases already where the children who studied there can pick up reading skills rapidly...maybe this is their trade secret? Anyway, I will still make an appointment to meet up with the Principal to find out a little bit more...by then, I will share some findings here.

hai ;
a friend ask me to try THE CORE in usj 11, went there yesterday. the principal is very nice and daily hours from 8.30 to 11.30am. additional classes from 11.30 to 12.00. u also can leave yr kid until 3.00pm (rm 200 mth) or 6.00pm.( i dont know ).
one thing i like is they have special class for whose kid like concentrations very short ( like my girl she's a bit hyper active kid)need a patient teacher and no too much home work.and they also have separate classes( only for 6 years old class) for whose want to go private school or local chinese school (in 7 years old ) . plan to send my girl there next year.
by the way , anyone know more abt THE CORE ? :D and for who want to know more abt THE CORE the tel no :03-56366703

you are talking about 5-6 years old here..
kids at that age usually have very short attention span, there's no need for special classes.

Agreed with coleslaw, short attention span is a natural thing for a 5 year old ... we parents have to make sure that we don't cause our kids to "reject" the study mood from young just because we want them to learn "pay longer attention" :)

I always heard perents say their kids are hyper active, never once I hear any parents treat it as "normal for children to be very active". There is a different between very active and hyper active. I encourage parents to check it out and make sure of their case before simply label their child hyper active. Because very active child can grow up to be a very good leader, and we don't want to kill that gift by label them wrongly.

Highly recommend the book "personality plus" by Florence Littauer to parents - understand more about your kids with different temperament. Every kid is different even from the same parents or same education. If you read chinese, go for 'The Great Mom and Success of Child' 1 & 2 by 張炳惠, these are greatest books that I read so far on parenting ;)

I also agree abt being careful to label our children as "hyperactive". In the real term, it is a medical condition.
We all good mothers have to constantly remember that each child has different attention span and different depth of concentration - depending on the subjects of interest.
I like a school where children can truly really learn/explore through play with their HANDS, in fact, through ALL THEIR SENSES. Instead of sitting in a classroom setting - which they will have the opportunity to do in the next 6 years of primary + 6 years of secondary!
Most of all, I believe in the ability of each mother to sense/judge whether her child likes being in that particular kindergarten!

Btw, anyone heard abt the mandarin classes in baobei at usj21?

Went to Sri Comel yesterday .... was told monthly fee is RM210 plus RM60 if you intend to add in mandarin class (8am to 8.45am mon to fri). Upon enrolment, one has to pay RM448, which includes insurance, term fee, books, uniform and registration fee. The term fee is payable every 6 mths. :)

Each class has maximum of 25 students.

Does anyone know of any kindergarten that emphasizes the importance of speaking properly ie not speaking Manglish?

My daughter now, speaks English without the 'lah, ah , man, one etc' as she learns English mainly from the Disney Channel. I know, from experience, once they go to kindergarten they will inevitably pick up Manglish. Teachers too speak Manglish so it is very difficult for the kids not too.

I am not saying it is bad amongst grown ups but I just want them to pick up a good basic and be able to differentiate between proper English and Manglish and to be able to speak well when the occasion requires them to

Any recommendation please? Thanks

I stay in SS14 and work in Kelana Jaya. Is there any good kindergarten nearby that focuses on fun learning in Subang Jaya/Sunway/Kelana Jaya? I wouldn't want to go into USJ then get stuck in the jam going to work.

I visited Small Wonder (SS19)...its great! Fun learning, lifeskill, webcam to view kids from home/hp and the food is just so good compares to norm finger food.....If not for the massive jam from my place TP - SS19, I had already enrol my kid there. Get info from the website. Its better explained there. There's also Qdees in SS18 to check out! Beaconhouse is also reputable (SS18 too I think).
