I stay in USJ 11 since 2 years ago.

Recently, there is a family move in to the house opposite to mine. This family always like to park their cars in front of my house. I have to "honk" like hell then they will only remove it.

I just do not understand - why got such people in this world !

Oh God .... Please help me :(

There are people who are like that. Somemore they tell you that is to prevent your children from running into the road. I swear that was what my neighbour told me!

Not surprised.
Nowadays, some ppl got too many cars but they can't afford a house with more parking space.

Err buddies...never mind lah...for as long as the cars are not blocking access into your own house...or they are not causing too much obstructions to the other road uses...never mind lah.

Ahem...outside of the perimeter of your house...it's council land...NOT yours to begin with.

The problem is with the housing developers...they wanna squeeze as many houses for sale to earn as bigger bucks as possible into their plot of development land...

So the roads n roadside compounds ended up narrower...

Ahem...next time the house buyers should be smarter to choose to buy their houses which have wider roads n roadsides in between each rows of houses.

NOT necessarily they ended up paying more to begin with...n the routine accessing of vehicles in n out of their house...would be a lot easier as well...

So...never mind lah...

This is called selfishness. I also have a neighbour who make a garden in front of their house so that nobody will park in front of their house. Then when visitors come to visit them and they find that there's no parking space because of their own selfishness, they will park at neighbour's front house. I usually put a warning in paper first on their windscreen "don't park here, you don't pay parking fees'". :D

Try putting paper on the windscreen. It usually works. ;)

the problem is our strecth has a very high car density. imagine that the cars are parked until only 1 lane is available for traffic to pass through. usually the cars parked outside do not block access but they make it more difficult for me to reverse out or enter the house.

Hmmm.......the last time I beh ta han ppl parking infront of my gate, I mix filthy water with sand and pour the mixture all over his car. Did it one time and that fellow never park again. Not a very good thing to do but if you encounter such problem over and over again you will tend to loose anger.

Some ppl are just not civic minded.

All these problems are caused by poor and outdated building and drainage planning. We are still using pre-WW2 designs. Unlike Singapore and other countries which upgrade their knowledge and competency, our councillors use their official trips for shopping and personal businesses. No one is bothered to take a look at the by-laws governing our housing industry. No one cares.

In many countries, there are strict laws regarding the buffer zones between houses and the public roads. Many have pedestrian walks in the buffer zones.

Look at the apartment blocks. Many apartment blocks are built right to the edge of the road except for a small drain. There is no buffer zone at all for the grass or to walk. The quality of life in Malaysia is miserably low.

Anyhow, I do not like to buy houses facing one another. I always try to buy one facing the field or the side of a corner lot.

 you did what??

it is not the matter or being civic minded or not... but rather being courteous. If anyone's gonna park his or her vehicle in front of another person's house, the least they could do is to ask if the 'neighbor' would mind...or not, having a vehicle parked infront of the house. Then again, since when was the space outside the house private property?
Strange isn't it,... this 'private property or space' would suddenly revert to public property should a water pipe burst, just outside a house! :p

i am also glad to see some decent replies/responses to this problem... goes to show, there are really nice people in this forum... :)

Go and talk to them in very strict manners and make it very clear to them, u do not want any of their car park in front of your house whether at that particular time u are at home or you are not at home. Ask them seriously, do they like you to park your car in front of their house everyday. Tell them strictly that they and all their anak saudara or friends not to park any of their cars in front of your house, tell them that it won't be nice if you accidentally dented any part of their car. Ask them strictly whether they can cooperate with you for this simple tasks as a sensible neighbour. Tell them you mean no harm and you just don't want your own front gate to be blocked at anytime at all. Lastly, ask any of their most senior member of the family there whether they like you to block their house as a gesture of appreciation after all this time. Btw this is what my wife tell my Indian neighbour when she can't take it anymore, I m glad it work nicely. :D

Orchi still has an apartment...but Orchi doesn't stay in it...n Orchi is eyeing to buy a piece of empty land to built own bungalow to stay during retirement...but that won't materialize so soon yet.

For the time being...like many in here...Orchi stays in a link house sharing a common wall...perimeter fencing...public roads...roadsides...n a back lane...with many surrounding neighbours.

In fact...these friendly neighbours of Orchi...could hear little Orchis' squabbles n yelling amongst themselves...daily.

Also the same neighbours could also hear Orchi talking loudly over the phones...or yelling at little Orchis...whenever they missed doing their homeworks...

It won't even surprise Orchi a bit...should any of Orchi's closest neighbours hear the squeaking sound of Orchi's bed...around midnights.

So again Orchi says...never mind lah...when there is suitable space for it...n IT IS AFTERALL...a public council's space...

Do the neighbourly thingy...n do let the neighbours park their vehicles there whenever they need to...for as long as they are NOT blocking the entrance to your houses...or obstructing traffic...

Never mind lah...

Why make enemies...or create hostility n unfriendly living environment...out of your own closest neighbours...?

In times of need...or emergency crisis...they would be the FIRST persons who would come to your aid....

n last but not least...in times of peace...they would be the ones who would come over to share their home baked cookies...or buah tangan...with you.

Hearye...Hearye...that's the spirit of being a good neighbour. You will never know one day you will need their help.
if we have to let our neighbour know they are blocking the entrance, be polite about it. Don't write an unpleasant note with !!!!!!! marks. It's as good as yelling at them and it doesn't reflect very well on us.
Do you know some good neigbours resorted to leaving big sharp menacing stones to block their little garden ? They finally had to suffer the brunt of their "brilliant idea" when their car overshot and accidently ran over the rocks ?? Ouch...that must have really hurt, their poor car. :D

There was once...someone was looking to get to Orchi's house for the 1st time...only to recognize Orchi's punya...old beaten 4x4 parked in front of a luxuriously renovated corner lot house...

He must have been impressed...ahem...at 1st.

Yes I did just that...sounds very uncivic minded huh? But I have politely told the car owner not to park directly infront of the gate but you know what he said? If you need to go in, I'll move the car away.....and you think he'll come out? No....in the end I have to park my car outside most of the time.

To treat uncivic minded ppl you have to use the uncivic minded way.

I think that if they do not obstruct your right of passage into your home, then it is ok but if the fact is that if they do not move their vehicle you cannot drive into your home then it is not right. Sometimes they can park a little further away but they do not want to walk so they park their cars in front of people's house assuming that the owner has gone out to work and would not be back so soon. As a matter of principle we should not park where your vehicle can obstruct the house owner's right of way to his residence. that is basic courtesy.

i think Timothy is still thinking about the ideas given. Maybe he is not sure which to follows. Maybe his relationship with his neighbour is kinda 'closed'. It would be pai seh to voice out.

Even my neighbour is doing all sort of funny things like cleaning fish outside the gate , then when my husband comes back he gets so angry at them cause it stinks the whole house, as they leave the blood and the fish intestine in the drain. Summore not 1 fish , is 1 whole box of fish. My goodness...and i only could say close the door...dont argue with ppl. Cause since they are no one home in the day so i dont want them doing anything to our home.

For Timothy, very sorry to hear of your predicament. Talk to the fler I'd suggest, for a start.

I, Timothy here would like to thanks you guys/gals for giving so much opinions. The reason why I posted this issue is try to get various "solution" from you all as many as possible.

I have 3 concerns here :-

(1). this opposite neighbour park their car either right (or 2/3) in-front of my gate, hence blocking my entrance. Just in case during mid-night I have emergency matters to settle, do I need to "honk" at this hours to wake all neighbour up?

(2). this family looks like is doing some religion things at their house (black magic, voodoo, ..., etc, I dont know). so i "takut" lah kalau dia buar sesuatu kepada saya ...

(3). I am a frequent traveller due to work and for certain period, I will not be at home, and if I have "make them unhappy", i dont know what will happen when I come home later.

I say since they like to park their car in front of people's hse .. just park your car elsewhere for a nite. At the stroke of midnite when they park again in front of your hse, go put some peebles at all four of the tyres. By morning they will get the message for stupidly parking in front of people's hse.

Anyway, some of them don't park in front of people's hse but then the way they parked their car is actually hard for people to open the gate and reverse our car out from our hse or if we have extra car and that car is out and their car is outside our car. Double parking man. Brainless idiots - that applies if they are leaving their hse later than us in the morning.

Too many cars! On the road & everywhere! One of my neighbours has 4 people living in the house BUT has 5 cars and big big cars too, not kancils etc. but Perdana, Camry, BMW etc. Really if so rich to buy weekday car, weekend car, should be rich enuf to buy BIg house with BIG garage to contain all the cars. Opposite neighbour pulak rented to some company workers, many workers each with a car, so u can imagine... But dat one wat to do, everyone needs own car although same company, cannot car pool....

You wont feel it until you have tasted it. I tell you it is extremely irritating so have someone blocking your entrance. Whether or not you are going out in the night is irrelevant. If there is a medical emergency then like our friend says do we have to wake up the whole neighbourhood to find out whose car it belonged to?

Hi,

I just want to add something else (not sure if it's common). The house opposite mine has 2 cars (1 myvi and 1 camry). This house has a long driveway, and if properly managed can fit 3 cars inside (ours can fit 4!). Anyway, this house's driveway is always empty but both cars are always parked outside. And the way they park the cars is parallel to the road and side by side, if you can picture it.

HOUSE GATE

OPPOSITE HOUSE GATE

It's not blocking the road in any hazardous way, but it certainly makes it difficult for us to reverse our car out from our driveway. And also difficult to turn inside to park because of the restricted turning angle and radius. The worst thing is that the house driveway is totally empty. I wonder why they don't just park both cars inside (or at least 1 car inside).

Agree, you housing area there also got a lot of people wif the extra cars all park outside.

My row there the top end of the house at the corner, if you're drunk or blur .. the minute you make a immediate turning and if not careful will hit both cars at the corner of the turning. Can you imagine that, they park their car even at the corner where people turn-in. Its' so blardy cramp! Their car dent I don't care but then my car also kena scratches is because of those idiots park the car there with their brains left inside it.

Don't know if this will help at all, but I just want to say this, we do not need to live in fear of those black magic or voodoo if we believe in God and pray everyday, for God is infinitely more powerful than all black magic and voodoo put together. Those are bad hearted people, if they do such things to others they will 'kena' back eventually. I believe in karma as well, what goes around will surely comes around, and sometimes tenfold.

Sorry topic digression. Just hope you'll try talking some sense to your neighbor first and things will be better for you. Whatever it is, believe in God and do not ever be afraid of them.

All these behaviours are people who seriously lack social upbringing and exposure. Respect for other peoples concerns and convenience are totally not an option for them.
Sadly in bolehland there are many...even those who considered themself "educated" with degrees and whatnot....but illiterate to the norms of social behaviour. Worse still, refuse to learn, act tough and think they are right.

You can rarely find such behaviours in developed countries..like :

double parking and/or parking any which way,
slaming a swinging glass door on the face of the person walking 4ft. behind,
standing 1ft. behind and looking over the person punching pin nos. at the ATM,
rushing into lifts and trains without first allowing others to get out,
littering,
que jumping or not lining up all together,
sneezing and coughing without covering with tissue in a crowd,
noisy in public areas,
turning on the mobile phone inside airplanes, cinemas, meetings etc,
super kiasu at buffet meals,
children running riot in restaurants,
bad public toilet practices,
horrible driving habits ( that's another story alltogether),
non existent vocab in the words... sorry, thank you, pardon me and please,

So, Timothy, consider yourself lucky as your neighbour who is probably all of the above, treated you to only one of his cherished habits.

Did I missed any?

Developed country doesn't mean only having the tallest buildings, longest bridge and the biggest shopping complexes.
A visit to a popular public park is a good gauge of a country's status of overall and cultivated development. ;)

slaming a swinging glass door on the face of the person walking 4ft. behind, one guy slammed it right in front of my face in Canary Wharf station, or i was holding the door open, and another guy just walk right through without a single thank you or a nod  and I am a female!
standing 1ft. behind and looking over the person punching pin nos. at the ATM, this i gotta say i haven't met any
rushing into lifts and trains without first allowing others to get out,
littering, does beer bottle all over the sidewalk doesn't count? broken glasses, plastic cups after a party...
que jumping or not lining up all together, u get these ppl, only those customer service ppl will usually ignore them and serve those who really lined up
sneezing and coughing without covering with tissue in a crowd,
noisy in public areas,
turning on the mobile phone inside airplanes, cinemas, meetings etc,
super kiasu at buffet meals,
children running riot in restaurants, haha,... that is why they put their children on leashes!!
bad public toilet practices,
horrible driving habits ( that's another story alltogether),

Wake up 3 AM and ring their bells, "hello, neighbour ar.... I need to go out. Can you please move your cars"...

OR

at 3AM, honk loudly, wait for them to move their car. (Let the whole neighbourhood know that you are being blocked ) :D

Then later, wake up at 5AM and ring your neighbour's bells, "hello, neighbour ar.. I drove my car in already. I just wanna inform you, if you would like to park your car at my place, you are free to do so now. " :D
