I am trying to install a new modem router for my 3 pcs at home. But somehow or other after following the instructions in the manual, I am unable to locate the wireless network. otherwise if i use the cables, it works fine which means I am able to connect to streamyx but only can use one pc at a time.. At 1st I thought it was the problem with the new modem, I return the modem to my vendor and bought another new set, the same thing happens again. I even got someone to come over to check it out, somehow or other, he also doesnt know what is wrong.
Would appreciate if someone can advise me on whats wrong . Thanks
There must be some setting that will enable the wireless connection somewhere someplace.
Do post some details of what router you are working on n what os your pc runs. Can't help if there isn't anything to work on.

Will need more info on your setup to help. Something in the setup as all three computers should be able to access internet via streamyx at all times, together.
Post your setup and i'll have a look at it. Due to streamyx deploying single port modem routers these days ... causing some issues with ppl who add on a router behind it .. as you have to bridge to router ... anyhow, its easier than it sounds. List what equipment you have, with model numbers, as well as how they are connected, eg:
Phone Line --> Streamyx Modem --> Router --> Computers (x3)

With reference to Kaytee's post, currently we are using a wireless modem router by Aztech. Previously we were using a wireless modem router by D-Link(which has since been returned to the vendor for testing).
I do not have the advantage of being at home now to look at the settings but I'll try to set out the scenario as best as I could.
All 3 computers (1 desktop, 2 laptops) have wireless adapters. I first set up the desktop computer by connecting the ethernet computer to the modem and the desktop. Followed the instructions on the manual, created a wireless network called "Streamyx".
Then i removed the cable and tested out the wireless network with the two other laptops. It worked fine for a couple of minutes and then later the wireless network disappeared. I checked the modem and there was no flashing light on the wireless "button" on the modem. The laptops were able to detect other nearby wireless network but the one that I have just created went missing.
I removed everything and restarted the process again but to no avail. The flashing light on the wireless button on the modem will flash for a moment when the modem is restarted but after that, no more light. And again, unable to detect the wireless network that was created.
I then connect the ethernet cable again and was able to go on the internet. The same thing happened with the previous wireless modem router and I cant figure out why.
I know this may sound a tad ridiculous, but it would seemed that the "wireless function" in the modem is dead.
Anyone ever encountered this?

Oh, forgot to tell you how its linked.
We want the set up to be like this :
Phone Line -> Splitter -> Wireless Modem Router -> "thru wireless network" => 1 desktop, 2 laptops.
The desktop and the Acer laptop have Aztech pen drive wireless adapters whereas the other Compaq laptop has a built in wireless adapter.
Currently we are connecting to the internet :
Phone Line -> Splitter -> Wireless Modem Router -> Ethernet Cable -> Desktop
All the computers run on Windows XP if im not mistaken.

I'm assuming your Aztech wireless modem/router has 4 ports on the back for LAN (local area network)?
Now that i understand your problem better, here's my 2 cents:
1. Log in to the modem/router and check your wireless settings. If you change anything, do remember to "Save All" on the Aztech routers. If everything is enabled, then its probably a faulty router, nothing to do with your setup. Typical settings:
a. Enable Wireless Networking (duh)
b. Wireless mode (B, G, Mixed - check your wi-fi sub dongles, usually choose mixed)
c. Channels - 10? 11? etc? as long as more than 5 to support any additional users.
d. SSID - give it a cool name
e. Encryption - probably a good idea to disable it until you work out the bugs, then definitely enable it, unless you're feeling generous
2. Not related to your wireless problems: If you don't have the router doing PPPoE login to streamyx, do enable that on the WAN or Internet tab.

Thank you very much for your output. Will try it out later.
2 additional queries :
1. Forgive my ignorance but what the heck is :- wi-fi sub dongles
2. How do i determine the channels? Proportionate to user? i.e 3 users Channel 6?

No problem.
1. Wifi dongles are the USB-wifi thingys that u plug into PCs without built-in wifi.
2. More channels actually gives u better reception with less interference. Within the 2.4Ghz wifi B&G band, the transmitter & receiver actually operates on a variety of channels, if there's interference, it moves to the next channel (kind of like in wireless DECT phones). So just set it higher.

Tried it out. Doesnt' seemed to work. The wireless settings are set up as follows :
Modem Router Model :Aztech DSL605EW
Enable AP: Yes
Primary SSID: aztech
Hidden SSID: -
Channel B/G: 11
802.11 Mode: Mixed
4X: Yes
User Isolation: -
QoS Support: -

I would guess the router may be defective. If everything is turned on, any PC or laptop with wifi would be able to see the network. If its not even showing up, and everything is turned on, then definitely defective.

Would you believe that this is the second router of a different brand that is experiencing the same thing? Too much of a coincidence ?
Similarly, the previous wireless modem router - D-Link also was unable to detect the wireless network.
=(
