Look at the photos.

Previously, loan sharks distribute their calling cards. Then they started sticking stickers with their contacts on it.

Now, they are using banners. This is ridiculuous. I happen to pass by a housing area in Klang and this is what the loan sharks are doing. They rule over the council!

With the advancement of technology and with the requirement from the Ministry of Science, Telecommunication and Whatever, of registering mobile phone numbers, yet this loan shark menace cannot be eliminated. I hope Lim Keng Yaik looks at this thread. See for your self Lim! What is the use of you registering phone numbers when loan sharks still advertise with their phone numbers like this.

Our tax payers money are going to Michael Chong who will later listen to victims.

The loan sharks are much more efficient than any government department. Why? They even accept SMS registrations!!

Not only in Klang, but all around Klang Valleys.

And seems like our local councils aren't doing anything about it!

Greyshadow. If you notice, there is no Council registration numbers on the advert. So it is definitely illegal.

have you seen any other of such banners ?

you could share it here.

loan sharking may be a lucrative and illegal business-its very existence only reflects that theres a demand for such services in our society

why?

try asking for a loan of 1000 ringgt from the bank.u will need tonnes of income proof for such an insignificant amount.thus its not incoceivable that the alongs capture a niche market among the 'marginalised'populace delivering a service not available from legal lending institutions

we may not condone this kind of lending practices, however the reality on the ground is that there is a need for such services idiom-caught between a rock and a hard place

This is not something, you should know. This is how Malaysia government like ?They keep talking.. talking and no actions taken... "Get rid of pirated CDs, get rid of loan-sharks, get rid of corruption etc...".

Do you see any results in long run ?

I thought I read somewhere that the money lending act comes under the purview of the Ministry of Housing & Local Government. Anyone can confirm.?

I think that is why the police are quite helpless on this. Just like the case of the police not able to act effectively in Sarawak because of some legislation or lack of it...

Cheers!

I can accept that maybe certain things are under certain department.

With today's technology, don't tell me their is no co-ordination whatsoever ? One could simply pick up the phone and phone UK or USA in less than a minute
