I also receive those calls, but calls from high cout,it's a voice record, when I receive that calls,I was so scared, after I calm I remember which news I had read from newspaper, such like Sinchew,Nanyang,Chinapress for many case.I also check the procedures of court.
Usually the court are two ways to announce:
1.Civil :Summons,General Counsel
2.Criminal :Polis come to taking record

That night,I call State legislative assemblyman Dato Lee HwaBeng, told him,he let me went to his servis center. After I saw him,I told him the whole things which happened around me.He said shouldn't be scared about scam,be careful about those calls.

Great, you are not the only one received those phone calls.

I got similar call yesterday in mandarin and after hearing the whole voice recording, it prompted me to press 9 for more details. A lady picked up the line answering in mandarin that she is from High Court of Malaya. When I ask if she can speak english, she hung up. The call came in around 10.30am and luckily I just finished reading the Star and came accross an artical that a women got conned for the same reason. I didnt bother to care because I'm quite familiar with the law. Basically, the syndicate is targetting chinese women (si lai or tai tai) homemaker or older lady who doesn't have much exposure to the outside world. Pls share this with your friends and relatives.

BEware OF THE SCAM.

Next one will be saying " I'm calling from XXX bank and required you to close your account as they suspected someone has already broke in the security code. If they dont close the account within 24hrs, the bank will not be responsible to any losses. For security reasons, they will adv u to transfer all the money to a so call "temporary client account" which later they can be transfer out as soon as a new account has been established." Folks, many ppl had been conned in China 2 years ago. They suspected a Taiwanese based syndicate is running the scam.

BeWARE. They will come and bite YOU.

What is the POLICE MAN doing about this....

Sitting on their butts waiting for their July pay increases or what... ?

The account number(s) is mentioned... just freeze the account... also have the banks held accountable for allowing the crooks to open accounts so easily...

I wonder if POLICE MAN waiting for big people like LEE LAM THYE or MICHAEL CHONG to kena oso, before they take action... Uncle Lee had his car stolen... and guess what, they found it back WITHIN 24 hrs. My stolen Avanza has been gone for a freaking year... and still no sign of the axle - much less the freaking car !

When we wanna open bank accounts... must have this la, must have that la.. must find recommendation la... but crooks can open bank accounts today, hit and run... close account tomorrow...

I believe they are doing this randomly...
calling 01X-1234567, 01X-1234568... till 01X-9999999

ending the call immediately is the best thing to do... :)
there's another version though..
someone will call and ask in mandarin "do you speak mandarine?" (probably telling you that you've won some cash/prize from hongkong or something)
so all I did was "What? Who are you? Please speak in English, I don't understand a *toot* word you're saying!!"
and they will hangup in 2 seconds... :D

I totally agree with you. Not that I am against the use of Chinese characters but if one decides to use Chinese, at least put an explaination of what it is!
