It's one big fraud.

The promoter says sign up and you get 4 % instant rebate for all you purchase. What he fails to tell you is, you must ask for the rebate or it won't be deducted or reflected in your slip or your statement. Also the rebate is calculated at a minimum transaction...not ALL transaction as the promoter claims.

He also says free annual fees waiver for 6 transactions per year. What he fails to tell you is that you are automatically signed into a Mastercard as well. This card have no rebate at Carrefour and you also must use this card 6 times also.

BTW, I got less than 3% rebate from using this. I was also not given any rebate the first 3 times of using the card.

The thumb of rule is never believe what is always shown in the tv ads as it always seem to be more impressive to catch people's attention. ;)

There will always be * applied there for terms and conditions. Happy using UOB buddy. :)

If you look carefully at every Carrefour Cash register, there is a very conspicuous card that reads: 4% for everything everytime.
e.g., if you spend RM99, actually you can only get rebate 4% of RM50.00 and not 4% OF EVERYTHING.

Carrefour will sure KENA if somebody were to report to the Domestic Trade and Industry.

What about the MBF Mastercard LCD TV promotion, you guys see that? Just leave a outstanding balance of RM7000 for 30-something months on your credit card bill and you get that 37 inch TV for free! Wait a minute..... will you be charging me interest on that outstanding balance every month? No thank you!

hi firefly,

read http://www.bankinginfo.com.my

FINANCIAL MEDIATION BUREAU
The Financial Mediation Bureau (FMB) is set up to help settle disputes between you (applies to both individuals and corporations) and the financial institutions, payment system operators and payment system issuers (financial services providers) who are its members. The FMB is an independent body that provides you with a fast, convenient and efficient avenue to refer your complaints, disputes or claims for resolution as an alternative to the courts and the services of the FMB

i complained about ambank mislead me into a false free 1 year annual fee, and won the case.

before FMB entertain your issue, it is best u file in a complain to the party involved, if their reply un-satisfactory, u can then file in FMB.

once FMB made a ruling, the bank need to execute the ruling.

Most of the local banks and Singapore banks just sux!!! Service is not there & dare to charge service on us. Somemore provide such gimmicks to con us in applying their cards. I think best is to use cash - do it the old way.

This is what they have been doing all this while I think, tryin' to provide better service by putting more convenient, user-friendly machines around for people to use and consider machines as part of the service.

Hi, just used my UOB one card for the first time yesterday. I think there's some confusion regarding the 4% rebate. This is how it works:

1) 4% rebate only for purchases RM 50 and above (from now till October '07. After Oct, min of RM100 )

2) The rebate will not be deducted from your bill immediately but credited into your card which you can either accumulate or redeem for your next purchase at any participating outlet.

3) You do not need to inform the merchant that you want a rebate, by paying with your UOB One card, there will be an automatic rebate. The amount will be shown on your credit card slip (customer copy).

4) Different outlet will give you different % of rebate eg 2% - BHP and 5% GSC cinemas.

Yesterday, my total bill from Carrefour was RM 600 and I have RM 24 credited into my bill which I can redeem today when I watch Transformers :-)

BTW. I am not working for UOB nor Carrefour. Just a satisfied UOB customer. I've been a UOB cardholder since many years back and can only compliment their services rendered thus far. Their UOB 1to1 customer service is the best and most proffesional amongst all the banks i have dealings with.

Glad you are happy with their service. but I do find that they are one big fraud.

I purposely stop the cashier when the total reached RM103.46. then ask to key in the rebate and guess what, I only got RM2 as a rebate. So that means only 2%. Where is the 4% I am suppose to enjoy?

PeterLee

This is the gimmick.
Just imagine, banks are only paid about 2% comm from the merchant.
UOB can't be always giving you 4% rebate. They will lose 2%.
They will definitely change the rule if everyone just purchase Carrefour things
with total amount equal multiples of 100 or 50 ringgit.
If you pay more attention to the redemption awards given by most banks, the shopping vouchers normally equal to approximately 0.5% of your points.

I also a new UOB card users. I signed up becos was told the annual fees could be waived once you used 6 times in a year. This condition also applies to planitum cards and I think it's very worth bearing in mind that the annual fees of platinum cards of any other banks are charging around RM600 a year and normally they wont waive the fees on platinum.

So correct peterlee. Who is gonna foot the 2% then?

Ditto, just be careful of the Platinum card. you are liable for the credit limit they impose on you. So if there is any fraudulent transaction, you are liable until proven innocent. I rather carry a normal card with a credit limit of only RM5k which I can afford.

Haiz .. nowadays credit card are coming up with more and more offers and rebates to attract people to use them or sign up with them. Confused everyone on the usage of their credit card just to make it seems unique. Then end up more and more people carries credit card in their wallet.

The merchant will pay the bank 2%. This is their earning.
e.g. When you make purchase of RM100.00, the merchant will not get full 100.00. Most likely they will get 98.00, depending on the terms with the bank.
They will get even less if you use a charge card, Diners or Ammex.

I had a bad experience with UOB once. Usually I just keep and use 2 cards which is sufficient for me. But this UOB lady kept calling me up so I finally relented and accepted their card on one condition i.e. no annual fees at all times. I have never paid annual fees in my life for credit cards and I am not about to start now. She agreed and forms were subsequently signed. However 3 weeks later I happened to call their customer service for something and casually asked the consultant to check whether the annual fees are waived. She said no and that it is in the system. I immediately cancelled the card without activating it.

What a cheap shot by this bank just to get a customer.

Immediately switched upwards to ensure proper treatment. You can still cap the credit limit if you want to.

If you pay more attention to the redemption awards given by most banks, the shopping vouchers normally equal to approximately 0.5% of your points.

Peter, Talking about shopping vouchers - if you are planning to redeem your points for common electrical stuff like rice cooker or iron or whatever - it IS better to get the shopping vouchers and then head to that shopping center eg. carrefour, to use purchase your electrical item..

-cos if you would have gotten the same item from the credit card company itself, then you would have needed 25% more points ...

eg 38,000 point = RM200 vouchers for Carrefour
40,000 point = Panasonic Rice Cooker redemption
Panasonic Rice Cooker in Carrefour = RM149.
Still got RM50 voucher for other nonsense...

Firefly

That is my normal procedure USJ27Resident. I only redeem cash vouchers as the choices of purchase is ofter wider than what they have to offer.

Citibank have la but you must threaten them you want to switch to another bank.
You must ask to talk to the manager, prove that you have been a loyal customer and have spend lot of money using their card. You also must ask for wavier of renewal charges and promise to use the card for the least once a month for next 12 months.

Free this and free that -- all these 'offers' are pushing the price up. Someone got to pay for it and it us the consumer. To cover for the 'free' items, the merchant have to increase their price, subtly. Those with no card suffer the most becos they have no 'free' offers.

MBF want to give you LCD free is you transfer balance and keep a minimum of RM? over 3 years. We are not so stupid. There is interest of 1.5% chargeable per month

CItibank gave me a Platinum card and said first year fees no extra charge and will be same as my existing gold card. I am not so stupid. Next year they will charge and slaugher me with the fees and what is the extra benefit ?? Nothing much

Ambank said you can reload TouchNGo for as low as RM10/-. No where did they say there is service charge of RM0.50 You try and see and you get only RM9.50 on your TnG. They should tell you the fees first before you use the service and find out too late. You already done the transaction and you said ah, ya, already do already might as well pay the RM0.50 Ambank is actually cheating people -- all services and goods must have price tag, and that include bank

UOB 4% rebate. Don't be fool. Elsewhere in the thread there are plenty of warnings about the trick in their advertising. Why the authorities allow such misleading advertising ?

Yes Citibank will waive the yearly fees if you were to spend more than $25k per year on your card.
$25k is easy just pay all your bills with it and ask all your relative to pay you the money first and you can use your card to pay all their bills with it.

I have got a few Platinum cards myself and all of them waived the fees for me and it work out well for me.
It is also good if you were to need say $60k in a hurry,
all i need is just go to the bank and withdraw out using the 6 different Platinum card $10k from each card.

The more credit card you have got the less money you will be able to get from the bank if you were to go for a home loan to buy a house.

Found out UOB card's underhanded tactic in awarding redemption points. Was at Sushi King and asked for redemption. The points awarded is the net amount after redemption! E.g. if u spend RM200 and u redemp RM90, ur net amount is RM110. Points awarded is based on RM110. This is not right or logical as the points awarded should be based on amount spend! Frankly my user experience in using UOB card has been less than satisfying and i will only use it if i shop at Carrefour, which is getting less and less nowadays as some of the non-promotion items are really more expensive than elsewhere.

...This is not right or logical as the points awarded should be based on amount spend! ....The key is to read the terms & details carefully and to use it where it provides maximum benefit. Some comments on this card...
- No points is awarded : only cash rebates which can be redeemed with next purchase
- There are minimum amounts (AFTER any redemption is made) before the discounts apply
- There are also maximum amounts of rebate depending on outlets beyond which no further discounts will be given

i have mentioned the same observation/experience eons ago. cschua and others are talking about their sales and other departments. like me, other than the 1to1 customer service, i did not enjoy my banking experience with them, including the big big boss then. his service and attitude stank like a skunk. becos of the big guy i cancelled my card, even forgoing my points and gifts. as far as redemption of loyalty points is ocncerned, i have no regrets with maybank. don't get me started on other aspects of this legal loan shark.

I also share my frustration with UOB!!!!

1. Their customer hotline is always busy- very hard to connect/speak to officer despite it being a hotline.
My other card is HSBC and Amex- which their officer is always available.

2. I din not know that the UOB one card also come with a Master Gold card. Really feel like kena Conned....

3. There are some minor glitch in my - at certain places it i can't get approval- when i finally manage to get the customer service, they refuse to acknowledge this saying that the card has not problem.... what does this means? that i am lying just to get a new card?

- i really intend to cancel this card- but was told it cannot be done on the phone... anyone has advice on this?
